Shoei fitment
Where are you in Thailand ??? If in Bangkok Paddock (on Ratchada rd) stocks Shoei helmets and appears to stock the J-Cruise-2. https://paddock.co.th/product/jcruise-2/ I can't remember what exact size my head is... But I had my Neotec-2 fitted at Paddock (they have a pro helmet fitter and they adjusted some of the forehead and check padding for a perfect fit).

Using Bolt with a credit card
And why did you have to pay this particular cab in cash..... does the reason invalidate some of the prior comment you made? Because it was a flag-fall taxi and it was late... nearly all other transactions are digital - that invalidates no comment whatsoever. I don't use the Win riders (its been years) however, I'd agree, paying these guys in cash is probably simpler and it helps to keep some cash at hand for such scenarios... (I have no idea how much cash I have in my wallet now, its been so long since I looked, it could be 200 baht, it could 5000 baht). On the Grab or Bolt Apps the setting is for 'default payment' method, thus, your payment registers to the 'driver / rider' as whatever your default payment method is unless otherwise adjusted in the booking phase of the transaction. PromtPay is incredibly simple, more so once you've used it a few times. I'm actually finding it harder and harder to obtain a Grab Taxi. Bolt seem to accept a ride and cancel it within seconds. I'm wondering if this is due to the 'Card Payment' setting I have as default and if I change it to 'cash' I encourage greater success.

UK Motorbike licence classes.
How do you know that? Because one person you spoke to on the phone was able to recite the legal requirements to you? Firstly being able to recite the requirements doesn't equate to being able to recognise them on any given international document. Secondly, a different person (there was definitely more than one member of staff the last time I was at that particular office) may not even know the precise requirements in the first place [and, again, even if they do know them, they may still not be able to recognise them on a foreign license...] Exactly.... As any of us... correction. Most of us with any experience here are well aware - the knowledge and professional standards exampled in many 'official' offices around Thailand varies significantly. I've had a to correct and immigration officer who had the wrong idea about regulations he really should have been aware of. I've been able to use my yellow house book at the DLT as proof of address, yet in other DLT's this yellow house book is not accepted. Some guys are unable to get a yellow house book at all because their Amphur officer is being awkward. I would never take the word of one person over the phone when considering such matters - the only real 'proof of the pudding is in the eating'.... and many of us have 'eaten the pudding' and suggested, go ahead, give it a try. Not to give it a go would be dumb when there is no downside to trying.

Fair enough - I made a mistake in listing the A1 and A2 endorsement, I don't have those. I can see why you were confused, although, I stated the comment below. Answers contradicting the above are clearly wrong as first hand experience and other posters have proven with their first hand experience.

That is still asking for precise information. It's not in any way the same as rocking up at an office and giving it a go. Exactly - IF someone calls up and says... .... "Hey, I only have a UK licence that allows me to ride up to 50cc, can I still get a full MC licence ?" Or... "Hey, I only have a UK car licence that doesn't allow me to ride a bike, can I still get a full MC licence ?" Of course the answer is going to be no... The very nature of the question in the first place is going to return a 'nay' response - asking the question at all is naive and daft. The Cha-am office may be well informed, OR, Pilgrims wife provided already preloaded the 'nay' answer with the information she presented in the question. As you mention - Rocking up at a DLT and 'giving it a go' is the most viable option to secure a positive result - as has been proven by many posters already. IF someone has any 'scooter' endorsement on their UK Driving Licence (in the form of the silhouetted etc), then 'give it a go' at any DLT first, even Cha-am as the desk office will have a different opinion than the person on the phone who's response was quite likely influenced by the 'detail' presented in the question.

Again you are accusing me of being a liar - Why ???? I've posted a copy of my UK Driving licence - you have the proof in front of you. You are mistaken.

Did the same less than a year ago when I renewed my car license. Exactly this... Yet, even in the light of first hand experience we have fools who will accuse us that this is not possible.

You are wrong and have now accused me of spreading 'blatantly untrue' information. This is why comments in response to GOAT are less than complimentary, because he is implying the the same thing (that I am lying) when I have personal experience to the contrary. I posted a photo of the endorsements of my licence (maybe the photo was not clear enough - another posted below). I only have AM and A endorsements. I don't have A1 or A2. I had no issues getting a Thai MC licence based my on A & AM endorsements on my UK Driving licence - Nothing can be clearer than that - it is an indisputable fact yet you claim it is blatantly untrue, ergo you have accused me of lying. I keep repeating that this is entirely possible - and there are those which keep arguing it isn't - those people are wrong and deliberately muddying the thread and are being responded to with an appropriate measure of disregard. The FACT is, that a Thai MC licence can be obtained with a UK Driving Licence with A and AM endorsements - its been done !!!! AM endorsement - Ride a mopeds with speed range of 25 km/h to 45 km/h (rough top speed of 30mph) Ride small three-wheelers (up to 50 cc and below 4 kW) Ride light quadricycles (weighing under 350 kg, top speed 45 km/h)

He's trolling without any knowledge and deliberately mudding the waters because he doesn't like the OP - You'll see this pattern in other threads with the same poster.

I can't believe anyone makes such comments without the intention to be deliberately trollish and triggering... ... that is until reading your numerous posts dripping in 'anti-westerner' sentiment. That you are now stretching this ridiculous mentality on to Thai's who have mixed Thai parentage is hilarious... You're just like the 'gone native' fool I used to work with who'd walk around offering people insects, trying to be more Thai than the Thai's and getting laughed at and receiving strange weirded out perplexed looks from the Thai's... ... You are so dosed up on your own Kool-ade you have no idea how preposterous your comments are.

Chiang Mai first impressions
Posh accents ??? - where are you from ???? these guys are fresh out of 'The only way is Essex' !!! Fair enough, they've made their Vid, they are excited about their travels... Good on them for getting out rather than the masses who never travel or experience the world outside their country. Someone didn't finish school and is getting all pitthy and jealous at someone elses freedome to travel.

The Scooter that thinks it's an Electric Superbike !
Actually, its your body reacting to the solvent cut of the fluid, there are a number of fluids which are harmful and even deadly to us yet colourless and odourless.... You knew before scientists that Diesel was more harmful to health than petrol ?. As explained above - your nose is not the answer, because your nose cannot smell NO2 - which is the reason Diesel has been 'de-popularised' after its noughties governmental push. My point is still... Governments were pushing diesel as a better alternative to Petrol in the early 2000's and then that backfired. Are we so sure EV's are the way forward compared to other alternatives such as carbon-capture, improved catalytic converters, hydrogen fuel-cells etc ??? Could there be issues with EV's in the future, something we haven't thought about or are not aware of yet?
-
The Scooter that thinks it's an Electric Superbike !
Yes, that's been proven/direct link for a long time.... IMHO Diesel really should be only used for commercial vehicles, if at all. I don't disagree with you - but I think you missed my point. When did YOU know this ? Did you know in the 1990's and early 2000's ??? In 2001 the British Government reduced tax rates on diesel cars based on their lower CO2 emissions to meet agreements outlined in the Kyoto agreement. Obviously not a lot was known about Nitrogen oxides then. Now, governments are favouring EV's and pushing those... In 20 years will we know something new about further damage to our health or environment as a result of significantly increased EV usage ?

The Scooter that thinks it's an Electric Superbike !
That would be the reasons for me getting one. I don't believe that they are any cleaner at all when considering bigger picture. Agreed, in areas of high population density the can make a big difference to the air we breathe, but the energy must also be sourced - in area's of high population density, there is not a lot of room to put solar on a condo - so that power comes from other sources / areas. Did you know about that 5 or 10 years ago ? It wasn't so long ago that governments were pushing diesel above everything else. Now the governments are pushing EV's.

Passport renewal.
Back in April it took 7 weeks from application (at VFS) to receipt of Passport. At the same time the e-mail advised it could take up to 11 weeks.

Using Bolt with a credit card
Seriously... get a grip... Some of the stuff I read on this forum border on the outright idiotic... For GRAB - receiving credit card payments, drivers get paid into their Grab Wallet immediately. I have not discussed this with a BOLT driver, but as the Apps are very similar, I imagine this to be the same. NOW... with regards to your comment... 'You should ALWAYS CARRY CASH'..... thats also utter rubbish... everyone takes e-payment now... From the noodle shop to the wet-market... (PromptPay is a very simple transaction). I'm trying to remember the last time I used cash in Thailand... Its been a couple of weeks and was probably a flag-fall taxi.

Ok, give them a call and see what they say. Then get back to me. WOW... You really are outrageously unintelligent.... Why do I need to call to prove that something I have already done can be done ????? That has to be the most stupid suggestion I have ever read on this forum.

How to throw out my girlfriend's son out of the house?

Anyone know of a place to get a passport photo in Chiang Rai
Walk / ride / drive around looking for a 'print or camera shop'... anything with a Kodak poster on it... They'll more than likely to passport photos. Also... Run a google maps search... then do a street-maps walk through. Date Format
Utterly confusing, totally unnecessary... upside-down and inside out.. Putting MM before DD in a MM-DD-YYYY format is just idiotic. I've worked for numerous international companies and the ones which use the MM-DD-YY format always suffer some sort of delay, fault or issue as a result. IMO the ONLY valid date format for international use is DD-MMM-YYYY to avoid any confusion whatsoever... i.e. 24-JAN-2024 this is complete unambiguous and removes every dash of doubt or misunderstanding.

A stark reminder of Thai "hospitality"
Indeed the world has gone mad.... so many people have no understanding of basic issues and can't follow basic discussions - instead they dumb down and oversimplify things... This thread is not about 'a pack of garbage bags'.... The thread is about a perceived lack of service provided which is juxtaposed to the general impression that service in Thailand is excellent. Personally the 'whinge' is rather pathetic, but there a number of valid follow up points, discussing service standards here compared to the West, when it comes to personal treatment and professional response of staff etc and how that varies from company to company, region to region and also individual to individual.

Not wishing to derail the topic, but might that describe EV's in the first place ???
