Advice sought on best small hatchbacks/cars
richard_smith237 replied to Toolong's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Where is the 90mph coming from.? Gravity I think !!... (on hills).... It has a top speed of 90/100 mph (150/160kph)... Mine has never seen over 100kph.....???? Reckon it would do a ‘speed wobble’ at 150 kmh ???? -
Apologies for seeming condescending, it's often difficult not to come across as patronising and superior when responding to the utterly obtuse..... I do thank you for you contribution to the thread, the differences of opinion keeps it interesting, these threads would be over in moment if we all agreed. The comments of some help many of us realise that there are those out there who really are ‘just that different’ and lets face it half the people on this forum are of below the average intelligence of people on this forum... so someone has to speak up for them, so thank you for that too.... !... ????

I do like the idea of a fast small car though.... I was really taken with the Yaris GT... But alas.... its $100,000 in Thailand.... OP... Did you mention any budget ??? https://www.one2car.com/en/for-sale/toyota-yaris-gr-bangkok-metropolitan-liab-duan-ram-inthra-kasetnawamin/11204083 -

My 857cc Ford Fiesta really flew..... down a very steep bank and then ‘really flew’.... no injuries on landing but the car was irreparable. Celero 0-100kmh speed is 15 second... so somewhat pedestrian.... but 150kmh top speed ????.... I’d sh!t kittens ! -

I think we need context..... You say a 998cc 68hp 3pot car really flys ???..... yet your user name Transam... I’m thinking V8 muscle car... So I’m now confused about your idea of ‘what really fly’s’... Unless of course your name actually is... ‘Sam' and your handle is nothing to with cars !!! ???? -

Don't know if it was available in 2012, but did try the Mazda 2 and wasn't impressed. I know what you mean.... I had a Ford Fiesta 30 years ago..... Awful thing, never considered a Ford Fiesta since !!! ???????????????? -
I was responding to someone moaning the helmets people wear are too cheap. Please try to follow along. And your response was flawed reasoning to imply that people used cheap plastic lids because a guy on 15k baht per month can’t afford a 20k baht helmet.... Your counter argument is unintelligent and a perfect example of gaslighting in a poor attempt to point score... I’m sure you know as well as anyone that perfectly good helmets are available... Additionally, decent helmets are often given away with with the purchase of a new bike (I know, not everyone is on a new bike)... but there are good helmets around.

It also happens when a motorcycle is being refuelled and they ‘over-fill’ and the petrol leaks down to the hot engine.... -

You mean 'you are the sort of person who places others at risk by not turning off your engine while your vehicle is being refulled ????’...... >> There... outrageous virtue-signalling and gaslighting back at you !!!! ???? ‘asked’... are you pulling what I now lovingly refer to as a ‘Ralf’ ??? !!! ???? (if you’re not sure what I mean... see below)... hahah... you do come up with some silly stuff !!!.... ---------------- For the uninitiated.... this genius doesn't realise the sign they place on the bonnet at Petrol stations in Thailand means he’s being asked / told to do something. -

Why are you convinced ‘small’ is safest ???? You mention there are many U-turns in the ‘more dangerous’ region you live in.... IF an on coming vehicle is going to plow into me, I’d want to be in something with more ‘crumple zone’ around me like a Volvo-XC90 !!!... (of course, thats expensive here).... So, Fortuna then... Most decent car’s have reversing cameras etc... so they may actually be easier than something tiny which gives a feeling but may not actually be a better option. Have you considered Mazda ?... something like a CX-30 ?... or even a Mazda-2 if you really want something small. -
So you rail against others breaking the law, but you apparently see yourself above it. A lovely combination of Gaslighting and Virtue signalling.... Amusing, but flawed. I've driven in Bangkok traffic daily for quite a long time, and while I see people without helmets, far and away most are wearing helmets. There's more to Bangkok than Nana... Why does fear of punishment (apparently) not work for other crimes? City of London Crime and Safety Statistics | CrimeRate There are many not rich people than rich people. It works more so than in areas with an apathetic and ineffective police force. The why are other crimes not rampant? Who says they aren’t ??... there is an awful lot of crime that goes unreported here. If this needs explaining then you are not very smart, eh !!.... Somchai on a motorcycle pulls out in front of you on a SubSoi, he bangs his head and dies, he was the only earner in his family... you have to live with the consequences, potential guilt and deal with a lot of hassle..... Vs Somchai on a motorcycle pulls out in front of you on a SubSoi, he bangs his head, but theres no issue, he’s wearing a helmet... People who think not-wearing a helmet is victimless are not the sharpest tools in the box... The taxis I see generally drive pretty well. er... ok.

The guy propose me the place. Gawd.... why is it that when people get scammed like this the information they provide is so thin and basic communication so poor that so many questions need to get asked to find out how the ‘scam’ occurred and it ends up being of no surprise to anyone that the person in question found themselves scammed in the first place... -

Try to read the thing about air/fuel ratio and the ignition temperature. How smoking in the car would cause an explosion outside? How do *you refuel the car while smoking inside the car ?? We are perhaps talking cross purposes.... - smoking inside the car, no risk. - someone who may light a cigarette while refuelling = an utter danger to himself and society. People are stupid - the signs are there to cater to the lowest common denominator and protect the companies on whose properties they may carry out outrageously stupid acts. *yes, there are attendants who fill our cars... the rules exist for everyone, you, I, workers. In situations such as this is far simpler to have ‘blanket rules’.... the so call free thinkers like to question such rules but they never seem to consider the rules are not just for them, but the lowest and most utterly stupid people society has to offer. So... the no smoking sign is not really for you in the car, its for the feckless fool who’d turn up on his knackered old motorcycle and without thinking decide to ‘light up’ while standing next to his motorcycle being refuelled. -

Just been to a PTT station. THREE of the attendants who were not serving were sitting right next to the pumps using their phones . 555 What can you say... eh... other than ‘this is Thailand’.... ???? They probably ride home helmet less, unlicensed, on uninsured vehicles and jump a handful of red lights while they’re at it... Of course, while still on their phones !!!!
