Should co-owners pay for EV scooter charging.
richard_smith237 replied to Cricky's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Where do you draw the line ?... Or rather, where ‘should’ the line be drawn.... This is not using the ‘nearby power socket’ in the parking area to power a vacuum to clean the car out etc... its at the very thin end of the wedge of taking advantage thieving power. Do we all agree that charging a Car EV all year on the communal power grid is taking the ‘pish’ ? How about just for a month ? or a week ?.... Where is the line ? Do we all agree that charging a Car EV overnight on the communal power grid is taking the ‘pish’ ? Then... is charging your electrical motorcycle all year round not also taking the pish and ripping off the other residents who contribute to the communal costs of electricity in the communal area ? -
Wrong year on TM6 and passport

Actually, it is our own responsibility to check our stamps upon arrival. That said: If the Ops Laoation friend is planning on leaving within his legal entitled period of stay (i.e. on or before 6th April 23) then I see no issue, he’s not over staying any permission of stay, mistake or otherwise. His passport will have his arrival stamp - so IMO this is somewhat of a non-issue. -

Would it be fair that a 100 room building has 99 EV’s all using the communal plugs in the car-park, but you don’t have a car, but have elevated communal fee’s because of the higher electricity rates ???? Some people really have a distorted outlook of what is reasonable and fair. -

There are some highlight selfish and fundamentally flawed examples of logic so far expressed in this thread which makes threads like this a perfect learning curve for many of us to recognised that there are some out there who are simply ‘wrong in the head’...... Charging your vehicle from ‘communal source’ is wrong. Those communal power sources are for convenient but periodic use... such as plugging in a vacuum to clean your car, for staff to use to clear the car-parks etc.... But not to ’supply power’ to your transport. Its a shame that there is no viable alternative, perhaps those who are charging their vehicles should be paying a ‘fixed fee’ to use the power which would make things fair. I’m not so worried about the ‘fire risk’ there are enough stories of ICE vehicles going up in flames, thus the suggested that EV’s are at any more risk is perhaps over egging the bias. I use a ‘battery tender’ to keep the battery charged on my motorcycle while away ( a regular ICE motorcycle )..... This does not ‘charge daily’ as the op suggests. I worked out the cost to about 15 baht per month !!!.... I also spoke with the owner of the Condo and asked if they minded. In short - the entitlement of some that these communal electrical outlets are for their EV’s is selfish, there are no resumable alternatives, but to use the argument that the power outlet is there for people to charge their vehicles is glossing over an issue with an degree of selfishness surpassed only by theft itself. -
hmm....... I doubt I’m not the only one who read the headline which included the following key words: - French Motorbike Rider - Patong - Public Nuisance And automatically drew bias from experience and concluded French national of Arab origins.... Hoping to give myself a slap on the wrist for being so bigoted and bias.... I looked for the name of offending French-man, but really knowing this fella is unlikely to going to be going by the name of Jean-Pierre !!!!... Sofiane Ouenzerfi..... Sadly, negative bias further confirmed..... Thailand itself is often the perfect echo-chamber.....

Well... to be fair, If Argentina owned the Shetland Islands, many would see a very fair claim from Scotland, particularly if Scotland has always historically laid claim. To the independent observer it would only seem fair that the Islands are returned to Argentina. Obviously there is a ‘human’ side to this thus a prolonged handover would seem reasonable. OR... We just go to war again over a ‘fishing island’ with no other resources, half the size of wales with the population of a village some 13,000 km away... 27x further than the Patagonian mainland.

Have you ever gone more than 48 hours without sleep?

Two full circumnavigations of the globe you mean ?..... Valid point though - what task requires someone to remain 100% awake for 48 hours ??.... Perhaps the Op doesn’t trust the answers NASA or SpaceX are providing him with ! ???? -

I’ve done it a few times, its pretty much impossible without taking 10-20min cat-naps whenever possible. Performance drops.... the notable issue I found is that I thought I was ok, but looking back at the quality of work there were many mistakes no matter how fastidious I was about double & triple checking numbers etc.... Definitely not recommended and I’d say going 48 hours without dropping off is pretty much an impossibility. I still do 24+ hrs without sleep (at work and when travelling to and from etc) - it takes longer to recover from such spells the older I get. -
Why ??.... You can enter a drink selling establishment and ask for water in many countries around the world, in many countries it's illegal not to give free water to customers (examples - UK and Japan - both provide tap water for free). The issue in Thailand of course is that Tap water is not considered safe for combustion, thus any tap water is ‘produced’ and brought in - this costs are obviously passed on to the consumer, usually at a very reasonable charge (10 or 20 baht etc), unless the establishment is profiteering from a basic right. But.... the underlying and real issue here..... Bouncers looking to ‘act’.... its happens too often in and industry which is very poorly regulated with untrained staff.... these thugs just wanted an excuse to display their power...

The ‘free water thing’.... In many countries, water is free.. I’ve just send two weeks in a country which proves driving water as as a right, anywhere anyplace, its free... bar or restaurant, hotel, or subway. In Thailand - the water gets Placed in a room in a fridge, there are usually two type. 1 (the glass bottles) is free, the other (some branded water in a plastic bottle) is usually charged for. In restaurants and bars there is often already a coupe of bottles on the table - it would be a fair assumption for anyone to assume it is free along with the salt, pepper, sugar sachets, sauce etc alongside which the water is placed - of course, the water is most often not free, but its cheap. It's easy enough for a tourist to make a mistake an assume this water is free. The issue here is absence of clarity and the fact that the tourist is already on high alert as Thailand is somewhat well known as being the ‘land of scams’ and when someone faces an attempted scam at every second step they become suspicious and question things.... Another possibility because the article is somewhat ambiguously... they had their drinks etc and additional water was added to the bill... This is extremely common... Have a bottle of something (whisky etc) and the soft drinks, water, soda, ice etc just keep coming and coming... towards the end of an evening we’d have 10 or 20 bottle of unfinished water, sodas etc... its a form of ‘bill padding’ but its also extremely convenient to have this level of ’table service’ so cheaply so it was something I always put down to it being ‘just the way it is’... I’d initially the receipts as the drinks came, but still... So.. argument over a bottle of water... Theres definitely more to do it than that - but when communication is difficult and in an area where many tourists may have behaved in ‘high spirits’ in the past its the bouncers who are sometimes unhinged and behave with overzealous, unreasonable and excessive response. I’m glad the bouncer was fired - he is there to protect customers and staff, maintain the peace, not deflate any violence rather than escalate - Despairingly, he’ll be back in the same position within the week either at the same place or a nearby bar / club.

Its quite amusing to read of so many comments from posts ‘wearing their absence of knowledge of Khao Sarn road’ as a ‘badge of pride’..... ... So what you don’t know where somewhere is, don’t know how to get there, don’t want to go there etc etc.... Its hardly of any relevance to the thread at all.... I really wonder why some of you posters feel the need to write anything at all in these threads which seemingly have no relevance or interest to you... its just weird !!!...

As above… Plenty of Duty Free shops… Better than most airports. But…. It’s difficult to know if the Doha Duty Free shops have exactly what you require.

Google maps will give you the best route for that moment in time, regardless of what ‘bob’ on AN or any other forums encountered last month or last week etc… Give your travel day and you may get some solid local advice otherwise the AI of Google maps with its ‘current route conditions’ is the best info you’ll find for such a simple trip. Best option I’ve found when planning ahead is to check Google maps at the same time / day a week earlier etc… Google maps is also excellent for real time congestion avoidance… caused by an accident etc…

I travel with Emergency US$ and use the ATM on arrival for local currency. I never buy local currency before going somewhere. Perhaps the ‘tourist fee’ ticket booth or whatever it’s going to be called will accept foreign currency & give change in baht. IMO the bigger issue is where are all the tourists going to queue up? There will need to be another area the size of the current immigration hall !!!
-
It’s a good question & depends why people are traveling. I won’t stop tourists who were never told about this fee…. But… - a long (30-60min) queue for the ‘tourist fee’ - not having baht (no ATMs air side) extra hassle paying. - then a 30-60min queue for immigration. It may be enough to prevent the ‘return tourist’…..
