British Man Arrested in Thailand After 25-Year Visa Overstay
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Chiang Mai News
That remains to be seen. True... But usually in such circumstances, i.e. Police / Immigration publicity such as this, had there been any other wrong doing we'd be reading all about it... The void of other information lends to the assumption that this guy was leading a quiet life, though as you mentioned, that remains to be seen and given the lack of follow up, I doubt we'll ever know. -

That's what I mean. Thanks Perhaps entrants should have IQ tests too... (it would certainly be beneficial for this forum - although the culling could be quite drastic). Breaking an Immigration Law is not a criminal offence - its an Immigration Violation - he's not a criminal.... ... Now, as to the intelligence of posters accusing him of being a criminal - you are leaving little room for doubt. -

Yup... I bet it did... In your previous cars have you had to have the 'seat runners' adjusted (moved back) to give yourself more leg room ? -

Could have been a much shorter thread... Its for Lloyds Bank who require notarisation of a passport - while in Thailand thats the British Embassy. You'll have to call and make an appointment. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/documents-for-british-people-abroad#legalising-uk-documents -

Any experience with car/motorcycle accident ?
richard_smith237 replied to OneManShow's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Understood.... Good move on getting the new cams (it reminds me to check my cams and make sure they are recording properly). Its alarming that insurance refused to accomodate footage (although there wasn't any anyway)... I think our insurance gives a 5% discount if we have a dash-cam. And... It would certainly be in 'their' (insurance) interest too look at footage that can prove innocence - so something quite strange was happening there. When you meet - remember, you'll only get 'walked over' the amount you let them to ... It seems these guys (riders) were a danger to themselves and riding recklessly, so don't agree to more compensation... My guess is that this next meeting is only about getting more money from you, nothing else.... really, you don't even need to be there, unless there are police charges against you. -
Certifying ID
richard_smith237 replied to BenCrew's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yes... specifics... As an example, IF you want to open an HSBC offshore account, while there are no Public Bank offices here, there are (were) business offices here and they can certify your passport etc... Alternatively, IF you wanted to open a Barclays Overseas account, there maybe some 'notary services' that are considered acceptable - but only those who have specific experience would know .... There are so many variables we can't keep guessing.... asking for help and giving limited information is not helping people help you... Its not just you... a lot of people come on here and ask questions unaware of the variables and alternatives.... If you simply want notary services at the British Embassy... then a quick google search brings you here..... https://www.gov.uk/guidance/documents-for-british-people-abroad#legalising-uk-documents -
I dont' think the amount of poorly behaved tourists is related specifically visas... i.e. a 90visa vs a 10 year visa... etc But, I think your comment on 'visa free entry' is spot on... as that significantly increases tourist / visitor numbers... which is exactly what Thailand wanted.... ... and yes... I think that means far more poorly behaved 'visa free' entrants than before - i.e. Chinese etc.... I think many are actually using that to work here.... As far as poorly behaved Westen toursts - more Russians due to geopoltics simply means more badly behaved Russians than before..... And the continued Visa Free entry those from many other Western nations just means the same amount of dyck-heads misbehaving as before - but social media is a lot more prevalent so their antics are in the media spotlight more often. Opps... too many threads open at once...

You mean an offshore Bangkok account need to certify your Passport ??? If so, they have their online processes to do that, where they sent you a QR code, then you use the camera to verify your face and then the passport..... It should all be port of the process... But... you are still missing detail... help you out still requires too much guess work if you can't be specific. If all you need is 'Paperwork' then you should be able to get a copy of your Passport Notarised at the British Embassy.... Give them a call. -

Certifying ID for what exactly... your information is too thin for any reasonable advice to be offered. i.e. is it an MFA verified translation of a notarised copy of your Passport thats required ?? (just one example of ID that requires certification in certain circumstances). -
Visa policies have no impact on how people behave... If its a 90 day or a 10 year visa - idiots will still do idiotic stuff... In this case, the only idiotic thing this guy did was overstay, I've no idea why... but he was hardly causing trouble.... Additionally - I don't think there is an 'influx of badly behaved tourists' there are just 'more tourists'.... and this more tools that are included in the greater numbers... Plus the facet that social media now records everything - so it seems like there are more idiots.

Thanks... You mentioned 'Ghost rider'.... do you mean he had no lights on ? Did you have a dash-cam ? Apologies for the 'closing the barn door comment'... but a dash cam could proof no lights, or if he had lights and as riding recklessly it could show that... (*I have fwd and rear facing cams on my car and bike for this very reasons). Por-ror-bor will or rather, has to pay for their medical bills, thats what its for - leave all that to Tokyo Marine - they should force them to.... Also, as the other party is Thai, they have Government cover, so their health care should be free anyway (but at the hospital in the province they are registered at - if they are working in a different province than that they are registered at, its kind of their own fault that they didn't update their primary hospital). As far as appointments are concerned - it should be 'Insurance talking with insurance' If they are inviting you, its likely for a compensation claim... If they were riding recklessly, that would be the time to mention that (but again, dash cam footage would be great here). -
Missing is the reason why it is not covered. Exactly - contracting an illness or an injury while overseas is at the very core of travel insurance. So, IF they had cover - why did the company not cover there costs - this story really needs that reason.... ... this could either be terrible treatment by the insurance company wiggling out of payment. Or... it could be a big lie that they had the insurance at all.... Or... they thought they had insurance because they have a credit card that claims they offer insurnace etc (but usually only if you buy the holiday though them etc). Or... pre-existing condition ?? she had tonsillitis 25 years ago and they found out ?

I know he's broken the law etc... he's overstayed by an age etc etc... But really, what harm has he caused anyone ??.... Has he hurt anyone ? Has he taken any jobs away from Thai's etc ? Has be been supporting a Thai family with his pension etc ?? ------ The point I want to make is that while there is of course going to be a strong contingent of those who say "guys like this make it harder for the rest of us"... or "he knew the law and still overstayed".... even the "hangem high posts".... ... If he has been contributing in some form to society, i.e. via his family and supporting them etc.... Then what has he really don't wrong when looking at the bigger picture ? Can't Thai's issue longer retirement visas ?... Its just a bit of paper at the end of the day... surely...- 452 replies

Why is no one living on this 'jaggerdy underside' too ???... do we only 'stick to the top' ? As an oblate spheroid, the Earth has slightly different measurements for its equatorial and polar diameters due to its bulging at the equator. The Equatorial diameter: 12,756 km the Polar diameter: 12,714 km This has been proven beyond doubt with combination of geodesy, astronomy, gravity studies, and satellite measurements. The big weakness in the flat earthers model is actually the flat earthers model - nothing sensibly accurately or scientifically fits into it - concessions have to be made at every step, such that science as we know it has to get thrown out of the window for any of the model (and I hesitate to call it that) to be remotely viable.

Too many questions before any viable answers can be offered 1) Why did 'they' find you at fault ? (were you actually at fault ?) 2) Were you licensed ? was he ? 3) Was his motorcycle taxed ? 4) Your Por-ror-bor insurance will pay for medical cover 5) Your Tokyo-Marine first Class insurance will cover damages There was no reason for you to be talking with the other party at all. All in all, if it really was your fault, it seems you were treated quite fairly, though any monetary request should be made through your insurance - as they should be covering all costs up to their limits. It just seems you were 'trying to do the right thing' (which is commendable) . -

Thats kind of my point... Going back to my earlier post.... A Thai friend of mine 'held the riders shoulder' to steady himself as he both got on and got off the back of the Grab Bike.... then the GrabTaxi (female) made a formal complaint and my friend was banned from using Grab (he appealed but they ignored it)... but this was far from inappropriate contact - it all seems very strange and my friend (Thai) can b trusted to tell the truth - he even contacted grab to find out what he'd done, has the hand on the shoulder was the only contact he'd made with the rider. ... this is something I do pretty much every time I get on a Motorcycle taxi - I grab their shoulder to steady myself as I get on and off.... The article you posted suggests the Iranian [passenger persistently attempted to grope her]... does that mean 'grab her breasts' ..... Or she didn't like her shoulder being held for support ? Given the response, it would seem it to be the former [attempting to grope breast] but the story really isn't very clear and between pillion riders there will of course be some contact.... Its a strange one - but for sure, If the Iranian was trying to sexually assault her by trying to grope her breasts etc... then for sure, take full legal measures.

The Flat Earth claim that objects fall due to weight and density rather than gravity is flawed at an extremely fundamental level because weight itself is a result of gravity. If objects fell solely due to being "heavier than air," they wouldn't fall in a vacuum, yet experiments these experiments can be carried out in the home... and any vaccum chamber... Much like dropping objects on the Moon, proves. Moreover, buoyancy, which Flat Earthers have reference if they are considering one medium is 'heavier than another' (i.e. a ball bearing heavier than air) also depends on gravity; without it, there would be no upward force to counteract weight. The Cavendish experiment confirms that mass attracts mass, and planetary motion aligns with Newtonian physics and general relativity, both of which accurately describe gravity’s effects. Ultimately, gravity is a measurable, well-supported force, not just a byproduct of density. Thus: It doesn't really matter where a 'flat earther' places their emphasis when the premise is flawed in the extreme. Won't those on the towards the edges 'spin off ?' and everyone else get dizzy ? Wouldn't the 'water drain' or move towards the edges ? the centre would be a desert. Meaning that its approximately 7260 km thicker than the earth actually is in diameter ? Would that not mean its a cylinder rather than a disk ????

What are your thoughts... could this Jaggerdy underside be composed of an assortment of big ‘energy crystals’ sending their thoughts and prayers our way ? With a jagged underside to this vast, flat disk we inhabit—how substantial is its thickness? Does it rotate like a smoothly spinning plate, or more erratically, like a coin set into motion? Or is its movement something in between? Is its thickness uniform throughout, or does it taper toward the edges, perhaps growing denser at the centre? And if mass attracts mass, how does this distribution affect gravity across the 'flat disk we call earth' ? If the disk is not particularly thick, what holds us to its surface? Are we now also rejecting the very force of gravity itself?

To be fair... the road is not owned by the businesses and they have no right who parks where. But neigther is it owned by a scooter rental company.... Easy to catch the Scooter Rental company operating illegally - check their records and check that they only 'rent to tourists and Thai's' WITH motorcycle licenses.... ... of course, that means 'connections to city hall' are somehow circumnavigated... I wonder if its time for the lady to arrange an accident.... accidentally knocking over all the bikes of course... though tit for tat would surely see retaliation... She's handling it the right way... But again... much much 'ridden' or driving' trade is she really expecting anyway ? Issues such as this show the difference in civilisation between Bangkok and other area's of Thailand.

It is common for the details of sexual assaults to be withheld to protect the victim, avoid copycat attacks and not to encourage "Curse of the Claw" types who get off on reading such intimate details and wish to act as defence barristers picking holes in the victim's story. If you really want to know, you can attend pertinent court cases by sitting in the public gallery. I'd agree without - but when has that every stopped any report in Thailand before ??? There is no mention of 'sexual assault'.... such as the guy slapping the girls backside in 7-11 or the other guy grabbing a woman's bottom in Walking Street last year... Thus - your comments would be more realistic if there were any consistency surrounding the 'sensitive' nature of reporting... However, I suspect your response is more influenced by applying a western mindset rather than what happens here....
