Thailand Doubles Down on Dirty Diesel: Trucks, Buses Inspected
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Indeed.... Park them out of the way... BUT... the issue is so many public busses too... Lorrys, delivery trucks, public busses - so many of them belching out horrific fumes and they have been doing so for decades.... Firstly, public vehicles (busses) are never stopped, because they are simply public vehicles... so who's to blame there ?... public officials of course, but there's no money to get cleaner busses... so the same old fume bleching non-AC busses are kept running.... .... So, how did the beaten up old lorries get away with this over the past decades throughout all the 'other crack-downs' ??? Simple.... 'Stickers' !!.... And if that seems odd to you, then the explanation will highlight the depth of the systemic graft involved ingrained in every facet of Thai society... Policemen (at checkpoints) are paid off and in return they issue a 'start-sticker' to be displayed on the truck windscreen which identifies that they have 'paid up'.... https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2681949/sticker-on-truck-to-be-probed https://aseannow.com/topic/1311702-police-chief-says-won’t-tolerate-truck-sticker-bribery/ -
OK.. sure.... but the information is particularly vague at the moment... [He is accused of committing an indecent act against a female rider]... What did he do ? sexually assault her ? spit on her ? punch her ? - what was the indecent act ? There is supposedly video evidence.... so before passing judgement, it would be interested to see the 'extremity of this indecent act'.... and yeah - throw the book at him if he really has done something horrible and indecent.

I'm not defending the guy.... BUT... what indecent 'act is he alleged to have committed' ??? The reason I ask... I know a Thai guy who is banned from using Gran for 3 months for "committing an indecent act of a female Grab Rider"... He appealed, but Grab have simply ignored his appeal. His crime.... He placed his hand on her shoulder while getting on (and off the bike).... this is something I always do for stability on the rare occasions I have taken a Grab Bike.... And 'this' is the second time this week I've heard of such a complaint... Thus: IS this a way Grab riders (female) can claim some form of compensation ? I know my friend well enough to know this claim by the female grab rider is 100% rubbish... What about this ??? Of course - the riders must be protected and taken care of..... but I am left a little cynical after hearing what happened to a Thai friend - that said, there are some loons around, so it could be easy to see how some may assume 'they' are 'that sort of women'.... I've often found myself in a Grab car with a rather attractive looking young Thai female driver - I admire their bravery, but I am also very conscious to keep any conversation strictly 'respectful and professional' which really isn't a difficult thing to do at all...

Its ok - no need to worry yourself.... proven science has that in hand.... (and its likely at some point you've flown over it or very close to it). Now... take a look at Palaeomagnetism of the earth. Magnetic Inclination & Latitude: Magnetic minerals align differently depending on latitude: horizontal at the equator, steeper towards the poles. This pattern fits a curved Earth. Apparent Polar Wander: Different continents show unique magnetic pole shifts, proving they moved on a spherical surface. Geomagnetic Reversals: Symmetrical magnetic stripes on the ocean floor confirm seafloor spreading, only possible on a sphere (i.e. mid-atlantic ridge) Palaeolatitudes: Rock magnetism matches predicted ancient land positions, supporting plate tectonics. These patterns only make sense if Earth is round, not flat. I suggest 'Fatima' would be better off had she embraced science a little more than 'emotional love' - I hope she's not a practicing Doctor or surgeon...

Thailand Faces Backlash Over Rise of Illegal Hotel Operations
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Its the Chinese... often renting out these properties as 'party houses'... Making it a nightmare for neighbours... In our MooBaan... the police were recently called on a house and the 'rented residents' taken away (drugs were found) - owners received a litter from the Juristic office and the Police I believe. Its a pretty strong community where I live, so I'm glad residents will not stand for it.. But once this behavior reaches critical mass, even complaining won't be enough and things could turn nasty. -
Nah.... looks to be 'Western' but obviously can't be certain... Anyone heard from Bob today ???

Foreign Couple’s Haircut Scam at Koh Phangan Salon
richard_smith237 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Koh Samui News
Some guys think they are intelligent, but live in a narrow world of thought. Such as those mentally trapped into believing the Earth is spherical, stupid idiots.... its clearly an oblate spheroid.... And a hair cut at 120 baht, 300 baht or 500 baht is not a rip off either, just because the Wife can use the clippers !!!.... During Covid I did my own hair.... I looked like a tennis ball !!!... now back the the stylish flow that only an aging wannabe mid-lifer can achieve..... I'm thinking of going Man-bun or pony tail as I err towards fighting back the inevitable tide of years.... Oh... and the hipster beard ! -
Hmmmm..... at least it wasnt one of those over crowded Songthaews.... ... Needs must, but I wonder how over crowded that Bus was for the child to fall out of the back like that. At a Top Tier international school - I still will not allow my Son to use the Mini-vans... I see the vans being driven well on expressways and roads etc, yet I still don't trust my Son's safety being driven by someone of minimum education on a daily basis... ... too many incidents of kids falling asleep and being locked in vans... ... and I think this is the second incident this year of a child falling out of school transport.

WOW - thats quite extreme.... Yes, he tried to run you don't in a fit of rage, but usually the Thai courts are extremely 'forgiving' to someone who's admitting guilt. I'm shocked that 5-10 years or anything close has been mentioned, particularly given his position. Anyway - good result... even though given the injuries its clear that anyone would wish the 'event' never occurred in the first place. -
Actually the landmass did have a name... It was called Sundaland and spread across south east Asia, existing before the last ice age... There is evidence of both Homo Sapien and Homo Erectus remains across the region that indicate migration patterns across this landmas. Thus, the 29000 year 'human' (Homo Sapien) remains bring nothing new to the table from a archeoloigical, geomorphological or migrationary perspective. Nevertheless, its still an important and excellent discovery, just not quite as 'ground breaking' as implied, Homo sapien remains were found in 2005 in Moh Khiew Cave in Thailand and radio carbon dated back to 25,800 +/- 600 BP matched remains from other area of 'Sundaland' during the Late Pleistocene - Migration patterns were area already well known through these older discoveries. Homo erectus remains, known as 'Lampang Man' were fond dating back 1,000,000 – 500,000 further confirming the migration patterns across Sundaland much further back.

So even without sentencing he's been sentenced with jail time already ?? I'm a little confused, what is the 1x jail time ???... Or is that the expected sentence you've been informed might happen and that would double if he doesn't pay your compensation ? Given that he's attended court, admitted fault etc... I expected that he'd just get some nominal suspended 6 month sentence etc.... so actual Jail time would be very surprising. -

Its good to read the follow up - thanks. I hope the 200 K baht also does make it your way - better than nothing... though more importantly I hope your injuries are fully recovered. I know a Foreigner who won in court, was offered compensation, that never happened and the guy disappeared. -
I don't know who this Fatima is... but, given your comments, your reverence for her/him by far outweigh any validity or scientific depths to the comments you repeat - you've been influenced by a charlatan... Engaging in a debate with a flat earther often feels like arguing with an immovable object - a conversation doomed from the start because it rests on a foundation of demonstrably false assumptions. Every attempt to introduce evidence or logical reasoning is met with an unwavering commitment to an idea that contradicts centuries of scientific discovery, leaving the dialogue in a perpetual loop of circular arguments. The frustration comes from realising that any rational point made is either twisted or dismissed outright. It's not so much a battle of ideas as it is a display of dogged obstinacy, where reason is subordinated to a commitment to a belief that has long been debunked. This commitment to what can only be described as utter ignorance transforms what could be a constructive discussion into an exercise in futility. Ultimately, the experience underscores how entrenched beliefs, no matter how absurd, can become impenetrable when the desire to hold onto them overrides the willingness to engage with factual evidence. The pointlessness of arguing with someone so deeply invested in a flat earth theory is a reminder that not every conversation is meant to be a meeting of minds, sometimes it’s just an exasperating clash between reason and a refusal to acknowledge it. Your repeated use of examples so readily debunked such as flight paths are so incredibly easy to explain... its all too ridiculous to take seriously.

Of course, experiences always vary... But just the other night I had a conversation with friends. One of them was about to pop by the local Wet Market and pick up some 'food bits' to make his own dinner.... ... I commented that I love walking around these wet markets, the interaction with the locals is always so friendly.... they agreed... But it just shows, there is no hard and fast rule... AND..... IF someone is being an ayhole, everyone else already see's it to and knows they are an ayhole and just tollerate them... So, in such a situation, if you were just to walk away, all those in the area watching would already know exactly why and there are plenty of other shops...
