Remember when it was simply
1) get off the plane,
2) get a Visa-on-arrival,
3) get ripped off by the taxi mafia,
4) and then have fun?
Who in their right mind will wade into this over-regulated maelstrom? I have a suggestion:
*** Pre-Arrival
1) Go to a psychiatrist and get your head examinedUnless and until it is easy and relatively cheap again the numbers will be very low.

Bravo ! A 20 year plan is a confession that it's not going well at all and that it will need time !
Question: plan strating when? in 2050?
It insures current powers that be will be business as usual. Let the next generation clean them selves up.....

Kasikorn bank likes to make it difficult for farangs to open accounts. Unfortunately they have the best mobile app, otherwise I wouldn't bother with them.
I would qualify that as some branches of Kasikorn Bank like to make it difficult.
Some on the other hand are easy. Opening my Kasikorn account was much easier and faster than opening my Bangkok Bank account.
But, got them both so the hurdles were not insurmountable and are dependent upon the branch you select to apply.

So, you want them to give you the recipe.
If it doesn't come out properly will you still seek monetary compensation for damages?

I have lived/worked in Turkey for past 3 1/2 years. I have my Thai wife and 3 young kids with me.
We live in Ankara. To be honest, as another posted, there is much similarity to living in Europe. The people are very friendly and I have not met one person that was not warm, cordial, even happy to learn I was "'american" and engage in conversation. English is not as prevalent as Bangkok but seems every one has their one or 2 words they spit out. With a phone handy it is very easy to communicate with google translate, language is not a barrier.
We have 12 turks in our office and another several hundred on the project I am in contact with daily. Of the 12 in our office only one displays any religious leanings. The others drink, hang out in the local bars/restaurants after work and few even eat bacon. For most part like any other people in the world, just want care for their families and have little laid back for hard times or old age. Couple of the guys have summer homes on coast they move family to in summer and visit on weekends.
The politics demographic is opposite US, the cities generally dislike the current regime it is the rural areas that support him. The metropolitan areas just ousted the leaders party in most recent local elections pretty soundly. The stuff in news concerning Turkey all I come in contact with are indifferent, doesn't concern them and they just want to be left alone (gotta admit I share that sentiment).
If you gotta be somewhere it is not bad but Ankara is not a really exciting place. I suppose life on the coast or Istanbul would be more exciting. would I retire here? If single/no family I would not scratch it off the list. There is more history/archeology here than a man could see in a lifetime so if interested in that type thing you are never bored. Golf is good on the coast, Ankara has one 9 hole course. The women are attractive, dress to kill and very warm to 'americans.' Cost of living is very good, one can find almost anything he needs or wants, if not locally online for sure. So quality of life would be very good for retiree.
To address a couple comments above: I feel as safe here in the second biggest city as I do in my small rural hometown in South Carolina USA. To say Turkey is unsafe is hogwash. There is some petty crime and occasionally one that will try to take advantage in a transaction but as to physical safety, no threat at all even on darkest, loneliest street.
Turkey has not vaccinated its population. Last I inquired the vaccine is not available to general public yet even in private hospitals.
Turkey has been under curfew for over a year. Mainly, everything is closed on weekends but open during week. Every thing should be closed 9 pm every week night. Restaurants were closed for sit down dining until 1 June, no all is open and business as usual until I think 9 pm everything must close. Honestly, I haven't noticed the curfew. I go to office everyday, do supermarket run every friday afternoon and play with the babies, pretty much all I did before the curfew. But I guess if you needed to be out every night is was inconvenient.
There is tons more I am sure so if there are any specific questions shoot to me or post below and I will try best to accommodate.

How do they know it is updated when there is no date on it? I have handed the same for 3 years!
It should be dated and it does expire.
I read as much on this very forum in preparation for extension couple years ago. As per some in this thread, my wife argued, called my crazy, and all other such pleasantries. We went to amphur, she went in to inquire while I sat out with the baby. She comes out with fresh document and begrudgingly says " tilak, what you say jing jing. lady say paper expire, need new every time."
Closest thing to victory with my bride as I can have.........
But I don't remember how long it is valid, maybe 30 days???

Makes the connection much slower, I have found, annoyingly so.
I have used Tunnel Bear, PIA, firefox browser and probably couple more over the years and they all seemed to cause much slower connection than ISP without VPN.
I am using ExpressVPN now and have to report there is a speed reduction but not major and if experiment with several connections usually can find server with speed near ISP. Full disclosure: living in Turkey.
VPN is like that pink ID card, totally worthless until it's not..........

Everything business as normal in most all USA. No masks, no restrictions.
Or, travel 24+ hours to a place with everything restricted, changing rules every day, oh, and don't forget that face diaper every moment you are in public.
I'm in!!

Thailand in a nutshell. All is well and accolades all around.
As long as there is internet they have "stopped" nothing. May have impeded a couple individuals, but you can't stop the signal........

For any of you scoring along at home, has Thailand purchased enough vaccine for even half of all citizens???
Admittedly, I have not kept score but all I remember seeing is 1 million doses here, 1.5 million doses there over past couple months. Don't remember ever seeing 10s of millions of doses "on order." Most likely not enough for 1/3 population from what I remember seeing.

Honest to goodness: I am working in Turkey and my family is with me. My employer provided phizer vaccine to any employee or spouse that wanted. My wife said "tilak, I no want. this vaccine for farang. Not same vaccine for Thai person."
About month after she says out of blue one day, "tilak, why you not get vaccine for me?"
Just can't win.

" Living overseas one must adapt, overcome and persevere to satisfy the trashy culinary cravings. Food and taste can be replicated, it is amazing what tastes one can create with common ingredients"
Of course. Did that in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Haiti. Adapting, Overcoming and Persevering are easier in LOS but once in a while an In-N-Out is pure pleasure. Used to be able to fly to Los Angeles twice or three times a year. Not so much anymore. I am challenged in the cooking department.
"In n out is just a burger with fries and onion rings. Yes it is better than most other fast food but still just a quality burger, nothing special to it. "
That would be just your opinion. Many others would disagree. Also, Inn-N-Out does not serve Onion Rings.
Sorry to tweak a nerve.

I seriously doubt I could make an In-N-Out burger or a Chik Fil-A chicken sandwich in CNX? Have you ever had either?
Yes, I have had both and more times than my waistline cares to admit. I was king of junk food consumers back in the day, everything I eat was from a bag or a box. Living overseas one must adapt, overcome and persevere to satisfy the trashy culinary cravings. Food and taste can be replicated, it is amazing what tastes one can create with common ingredients.
There are many recipes for chik fil-a on line if you just do a search, little practice and very very similar taste. In n out is just a burger with fries and onion rings. Yes it is better than most other fast food but still just a quality burger, nothing special to it.
If you need the little foil bag or the card board boat for the burger or starafoam cups or disposable dinner ware in plastic for ambiance that is a different matter.

Yes. I miss the following:
1. In N Out Burger
2.Chipotle Burritos
3.Chick Fil A
4.Trader Joes($2 Buck Chuck wines).
5.Gyms that are open at 0500
6.Live Los Angeles Dodgers games(you can tell where I used to call home?)
7. A good bagel.
8. My local Costco where I could walk in and get vaccinated tomorrow(what the heck let me check Singapore Airlines)
9.When I drive knowing most drivers will stop at Red Lights.
Other than that I do not miss much.
All the food stuff you can make yourself. I heavily use "copy" recipes found on line.
The other stuff you would probably say "what the hell am I doing here" after about half hour.......

These people have no concept of what their draw was. The only advantage Thailand had in tourism was relatively cheap and easy to get to.
They have killed easy to get to, kill the relatively cheap and Thailand will become fly over country to get somewhere else.......

They may as well be. How long will it take for a closed hotel to be over taken by mold/mildew in hot/humid Thailand. It will take more cash to clean & refurbish than start over.
If not cleaned up no one is going to stay in a molding stinking place. Well, I am not, sure there are others that may not mind.

This is really concerning the Thai Government...only because of the extreme loss of face...
For them the worse thing can happen is reports getting out that Thais are returning successful with vaccine, Micky Mouse ears hat and bags full from USA shopping.
Trust us. We will take care of you.....

Receiving Bank OTP while out of Country, no Thai phone
in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Posted
I have used Kasikorn for many years and never needed an OTP. It may have been an option selected for no verification when I set up the account or maybe can be clicked off in the app menu.
All I can attest is there is a way the OTP is not needed.
Matter of fact, Bangkok Bank never sends an OTP either. It must have been option I selected for both way back when opening the accounts or maybe setting up the apps. Just don't remember.
As always, TIT so YMMV.
