  1. By carrying out a military coup and abolishing the Constitution ,imposing martial law to quell opposition and dissenting voices is an act of terrorism.

Lets not forget that one person may view and act as terrorism while another will not, neither is right or wrong but old different views

The "Truth" is a very fluid concept and especially where politics is concerned

Terrorism is a perjorative word used liberally of late, and some some have a very loose definition of it.

Using it to describe an act which has (almost?) completely reduced the political violence in Thailand, most of which was directed at protesters against a corrupt regime but which managed to kill some very innocent bystanders, is more than perverse. I would call it a wank.

There is no doubt that it ended the violence , but what it as also done is enforce a political manifesto on the thai nation regardless of their views and with no means of re course to object.

As has been stated before the military junta did very little to support democracy and everything to destroy it

Some will argue that it was the only way, and they are entitled to their views, as should be those who oppose it,

With who was commitment what crimes nobody really Knows, high powered political power games are never in the public consumption. If I was to use an analogy it would be this,

Imagine going to the fun fair where they have those mirrors that make you look comical depending in which mirror you view. The perspective changes depending on the mirror

  2. With regards to entering the uk with my wife I have had mixed responses.

A number of years ago we joined the other passport line at Heathrow, on handing our passports to the officer he informed me that we could have used the EU line

On subsequent occasions that we have entered the UK at Heathrow the use of the EU lane there have been no problems

In january we came back via manchester an d duly used the EU lane , to be abruptly told that we where in the wrong queue and should have been in the other passport, I informed the officer that we were family travelling together and that at Heathrow there was no probs for us using the EU line. He did eventually stamp us in

I dont think there is a particular proceedure regarding this, but it is left to the officers discretion

  3. I really am a Junta fanboy.

We had an elected government that adhered to 1/15th of democracy and then we had the 14/15th democracy Prayut that felt he should hold off on 1 principle of democracy so the remainder can be respected.

Is it Prayut's fault that the opposition are criminals and the perceived rhetoric is that he is biased.

Was the Americans biased when they held terrorists in Guantanamo bay? No…The majority in Guantanamo bay were terrorists….They wanted to kill innocent civilians. Of course cancer was the leading form of death in Iraq, but terrorism still had to be snuffed out and cancer simply had to wait...

So when some say the Junta are biased. I say they hold terrorists accountable….

Remember the facts…Pre 22nd of May in Bangkok. Terrorists killed 4 innocent people a month and injured 100 a month. After 22nd of May….0 killed and 0 injured…

Well done to the Junta for restoring peace and holding terrorists accountable because by damn pre 22nd of May none from the Jatuporn side where held accountable. Why? Because that side supported the PTP.

By carrying out a military coup and abolishing the Constitution ,imposing martial law to quell opposition and dissenting voices is an act of terrorism.

Lets not forget that one person may view and act as terrorism while another will not, neither is right or wrong but old different views

How refreshing to finally read some positive news. No word of farmer suicides, protesting farmers, farmers being intimidated by the party that the farmers voted for, no fake deals, no self combusting rice. None of that.

Only good news. I see a good future for Thai rice farmers. Especially the ones that were too poor to qualify for the scheme. The ones the PTP said the scheme was supposed to be helping.

This actually coincides with the entrance of the future pin up boy of the rice world in Thailand. This guy funded a project designed to directly help the poor and no one else. It is non profit so this guy will not get a cent from it, but will get the satisfaction of knowing that he is helping the same farmers that some held in contempt. The best part is it is designed to be self sustainable. So with that type of description one can be assured it is not a PTP minister. Thats right. He is a DEM.

The companies name is 'Kaset Khem Kaeng". The mans name is Korn he started a non-profit organization that offered sustainable farming and allowed the farmers to receive fair compensation for their produce. It won't help anyone at the next election because it is sustainable. There will be no need to throw money at any farmers at any election because it will be self sustainable. The project started in one small village in Mahasarakham province, which is one of the poorest provinces in Thailand and I look forward to seeing them prosper. Of course some would hope it fails because they put a certain party ahead farmers sustainable prosperity.

If you are going to paste from a source please include all relevant points and not just the ones that are favourable

" In August 2014, Korn established 'Kaset Khem Kaeng" - a non-profit with a mission to help small farmers practice sustainable farming and receive fair compensation for their produce. The project started as a joint venture between the company and one small village in Mahasarakham province, which is one of the poorest provinces in Thailand. The company was able to successfully buy chemical-free Jasmine rice from farmers at 20,000 - 25,000 baht per ton compared to the market rate of only 8,000 baht per ton"

  5. You are confused because you assume that "Police have confirmed that Montriwat is the man appeared in the CCTV video footage near the scene" means the same CCTV video as the one the police were later on asking for help in identifying a man.

    AleG

I understand what you are saying about Mon and cctv picture.

Do we agree that at some point in time Mon was on a surveilence camera going to the scene of crime

Yes, but that fact has relevance only if put into context, for example, the time he appears on camera, the location and direction he was going.

Besides that, since there is no CCTV footage of the immediate area of the crime scene at most what could be said is that some footage shows him going towards the direction of the crime scene.

Robert Heinlein, in his novel Stranger on a Strange Land had some characters, called Fair Witnesses, trained to provide credible testimony at trials, one of them, sitting as a witness is asked to look at a house on a hill, she is asked what colour it is, she answers "It's white, on this side"

The morality of the story is, if you want to find the truth, you have to acknowledge the limits of the available evidence, speculation that can't be checked against facts only leads to confusion.

    Aleg

First of all thanks for your thoughts, but your analogy with novels was a bit ott

  6. September 16th -

Police last night released CCTV footage of a man fleeing the spot where tragic backpacking pals Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were brutally battered to death .

Detectives hunting the killer have described him as the “chief suspect” in the shocking murders on a paradise island.

    24th September

Police have confirmed that Montriwat is the man appeared in the CCTV video footage near the scene and they still did not rule out a possible connection.

    30th September

BANGKOK: -- Police are looking for a man shown in a video footage walking and running in shorts, bare-chested on a beach road on Koh Tao on the night two British backpackers were murdered hoping that he may provide a clue which may help resolve the case.

Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen, commissioner of Region 8 Provincial Police, has ordered the video footage to be shared out among the media in order that members of the public may be able to identify the man shown in the footage.

Analysis of the video footage by experts show that the unidentified man, about 160-170 cm in height, bare-chested and shoeless was caught by a CCTV camera in front of Good Health shop running toward Oceanville hotel at 3.45 am and returning at 4.49 am. He was expected to be around the hotel for about 45 minutes.

The second camera in front of In Touch shop shows the same man walking toward Oceanville hotel at 4.48 am and returning at 4.51 am and was believed at somewhere around the hotel for three minutes.

Pol Lt-Gen Panya appealed to anyone who might know the man in the footage to inform the police any time by calling Pol Lt-Col Thirasakdi Chanthrapipat at 089-7804056 and 087-5185777.

He said that police used to show the image of the man to several people on Koh Tao but none of them knew the man, hence, he would like people in and out of Koh Tao to help identify the man.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/764534-koh-tao-police-look-for-man-in-vdo-footage-as-a-key-to-provide-clue-of-murder/

So on 16th September police were hunting the running man saying he was the chief suspect.

Then on 24th September police confirm that it is Mon in the CCTV but his DNA does not match but he is still being questioned and awaiting further tests and they were not ruling him out of the investigation (See Chiangraitimes posted previously for full details).

Then on 30th September the police share the video of running man to the public to see if anyone can identify who it is.

None of this makes sense. Why were they asking the public to identify running man when they had already said previously it was Mon?

  7. The pic of the guy in black shorts is obviously not the raw image, it has been altered, you can tell this by looking at how black the windows are, his hair and shorts, compare with the other still from same location and camera

As for the times posted in an earlier post I am a bit confused we have a guy walking away oceanville at 4.48 and towards oceanville at 4.49 , this does not seem right

  8. Even the governor of Surat Thani recently as expressed concerns over tourist safety on Khao Tao, (during the recent double Murder)

    A quote

Meanwhile, sources close the governor of Surat Thani province told Khaosod that provincial authorities are considering sacking Thaweesak Inprom, the chief district officer overseeing Koh Tao island, for allegedly neglecting to protect tourists’ safety.

"Mr. Thaweesak has been reprimanded many times about the safety of tourists," the source claimed. "And ever since the murder on Koh Tao took place, he has not reported to his superiors at all."

Officials say they will now implement more measures to protect tourists on Koh Tao, such as additional lighting and CCTVs in "risky areas."

  9. The questions I have about sean Mcanna

In his video interview he states 3 guys sat down , who is the 3rd

He was drumk so answered there questions, this implies that if he was sober he would either not respond or give different answers.

I am still going through his interview, he calls the 7-11 a supermarket, whereass everybody usually would refer to it as 7-11

Why would he think he would be safe in 7-11, if he truly believed he was being chased by powerful mafia

why does he use an alias dating back to 2012

Sean Mcanna comes across as a unprincipled character and where he fits in I dont Know

I can explain last 2 , he got waken up by myanmar cleaner who founded bodies, then he stayed there called police to scene and thats all . U must also remember this kind of shit dont happen here so my quess is police is was bit lost at start wich explains meny commenting. At europe they would have one pr police who gives all statements.

Sean mcanna again was compulsive liar and was never threatened but was chased to super market bcase they actually thought he accidently confessed. Even western bar manager opposite of supermarket and girl working at market said he was going around like a mad man all over the shop.

They called police not mr mcanna at start. But as in 3-4 am at morning when this happened after
mr mc anna had been drinking heavily around the clock . Hes delucional stories carried him even deeper. Police man who arrived was in civil clothes and even he shoved badge bcase he had gun . This idiot created a story hes from mafia and there 2 kill him...

Finally 2 officers arrived in uniform and this guy left the market.

But damage was done hes post was spreading and suddenly it was mafia trying kill him.

    Ridiculous,absolutely ridiculous.
Even the sky news reporter later admitted he got fooled by Sean and by the way .

    Where is he now ?? !! ??

  12. There is a report somewhere where Mon denies being the guy in the cctv,

However Initially I would have these questions

Widely reported and accepted the murders discovered by beach cleaners 6:20 -6:30 , if the explanation of Mon in cctv is correct , why did henot report it, and what was he doing

Why did he not volunteer himself to the police

On a side issue the anybody check if the beach cleaners had inadvertently picked up evidence during their work , e.g shoes, items that may have been discarded during the crime

  14. The problem about mass surveillance is not counter terrorism , in fact in this aspect in can be counterproductive , but its unintentional uses.

It is probably proposed with good intentions , but will it be used by nefarious groups and individuals to gain an advantage.

Will a politician spy on his opponent, a business use it for espionage , of course it may be claimed that a subsequent court may claim there actions unlawful but at this point the damage will have already been done

  15. no answer rubl? you stated your NINE posts on ONE page were in answer to me?

you have 17,500 now so you are a busy fella sitting there tapping away telling us all how you 'know everything' and we need the benefit of your CONSTANT comments (bit sad really huh rubl?)

I asked "nine posts and most replying to you?"

So, in two topics you complain I post too much? 'tapping away' and so, feeling sorry for me?

Interesting you mention the "know everything". I just had a PM from a newbie who wrote the same, but included some more abuse though.

BTW personally I think you could benefit from my comments, but unlike your avatar suggests I doubt you are even willing to listen.

PS although there is no need to use the "reply" function, if you just write a post aimed at or addressed to me, you shouldn't be surprised I didn't answer as it may very well be I didn't see it. Too busy hammering away, remember rolleyes.gif

Rubi's constant need to respond just demonstrates to me how much in common with the present government they have

Attempting to impose their views and opinions on others and unwilling to accept that others may have a different opinion and dissing dissenting voices

Of course this is my opinion only and I apologize if it causes offence

  16. Not everything is always as it seems

Yes Yingluck is impeached, indicted , other MPs and officials rightly or wrongly, but is the real story. I always like to look beyond the actions and ask what is its purpose and why now.

We are expected to believe that it is being done for the good of the Thai people and nation, punish wrongdoers and end corruption

If we were to examine these events objectively , the impeachment has no doubt polarized the political landscape that will take years if not a decade to reconcile . The government cannot hope to end corruption whilst disenfranchising some of its citizens by appearing to influence judicial decisions such as the NLA impeachment

Of course the ruling government is aware of the outcome of these actions, so the real question is why is it taking these actions now, I suspect the real power game is being played behind closed doors with a lot more at stake than impeachment, corruption, something that cannot be left to the citizens

  17. I will give my sentiments , although a lot of people will disagree

It is important when a judgement is given apart from being just and fair it also needs to be perceived to have been reached without bias and influence and favour.

Unfortunately whether the verdict is just the present situation means that it will be viewed as a politically motivated outcome, how could the selected NLA vote otherwise without undermining the current PM and reasons for the coup

What I fear is that the unattended consequences of this judgement will be a set back for women equalities, what would be interesting is to count how many women are part of the NLA
