Police look for man in VDO footage as a key to provide clue of murder

BANGKOK: -- Police are looking for a man shown in a video footage walking and running in shorts, bare-chested on a beach road on Koh Tao on the night two British backpackers were murdered hoping that he may provide a clue which may help resolve the case.

Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen, commissioner of Region 8 Provincial Police, has ordered the video footage to be shared out among the media in order that members of the public may be able to identify the man shown in the footage.

Analysis of the video footage by experts show that the unidentified man, about 160-170 cm in height, bare-chested and shoeless was caught by a CCTV camera in front of Good Health shop running toward Oceanville hotel at 3.45 am and returning at 4.49 am. He was expected to be around the hotel for about 45 minutes.

The second camera in front of In Touch shop shows the same man walking toward Oceanville hotel at 4.48 am and returning at 4.51 am and was believed at somewhere around the hotel for three minutes.

Pol Lt-Gen Panya appealed to anyone who might know the man in the footage to inform the police any time by calling Pol Lt-Col Thirasakdi Chanthrapipat at 089-7804056 and 087-5185777.

He said that police used to show the image of the man to several people on Koh Tao but none of them knew the man, hence, he would like people in and out of Koh Tao to help identify the man.

Oops, forgot.

Only a competent team who wanted to solve the crime would do that. This shower have probably been working out how to get rid of all the records.

My guess is that they are giving this guy so much coverage because they know he cannot help in any way.......either thrown over the side of the boat on the way out, or left the country.

Does anybody have any info at all on the speedboat seen running away from Koh Tao on the morning of the double murder? It was reported to be called "Little Duck". Anybody ever see this boat at Koh Tao before, who is the owner of this speedboat?

Howbout the other 100+ speedboats, fishingboats, longtails and every other only transports for hire -.-

Edit: there are as many available exits than there are entry possibilities to/from the island

If any other boats were seen fleeing the island just after the murder, and actively running away from marine police on teh water then they should be tracked down also.

As it stands now, only a boat with the name "Little Duck" was seen fleeing in a southerly direction. Do you know who owns this vessel? It should be easy at the marine dept to track down the owner. Why are they not doing this.

End of the day, it appears the perps are "untouchable" under Thai law, must make sure all our ducks are in a row before avenging the double murder and horrible coverup. No room for error.

It's just as well Thais are oblivious to what others, especially foreigners, think as they might actually stop and consider what fools they are making of themselves with this mess.

They are lucky too that so much is going on in Britain that the media there have lost sight of this and are not putting pressure on the Foreign Office etc. for answers.

Next they will be looking for the "man on the grassy knoll", or maybe

Jack the Ripper, they should have closed the island down immediately,

no one leaving without leaving DNA sample,ID,now the have blown it,

about time for some poor Burmese or Rohinga to be picked as a patsy.

I have to say that "seen fleeing" equals squat at current stage - don't get your hopes too high, as we've seen how the last few weeks have progressed. Grasping at straws throwin' speculations around ain't going to help one bit.

Tracking down the missing unknown video guy, is that part of the 15% of the investigation to be concluded?

These kinds of statements a risable.

Given the trouble tracking down the killers, and their frankly selfish refusal to confess and save investigators the time and effort of doing their jobs. If their was even a hint of a suspect, they would be in jail, having a confession extracted. Rubber hoses being cheaper than DNA tests.

QED there are no suspects. Authorities are baffled.

I hope they don't capture and jail the wrong person due to their desperation to solve the case.

Unfortunateley that is very easy to do it in every country.....Just think.....Any new convict for murder will confess another one or more crimes in exchange for good money to his family....Probably at this time the Police is looking for that "candidate" more than the real killer....because this guy on video is not on the island anymore....and the Police is lost. No clues. No suspects. And a lot of pressure.

Jabis post # 24

Well, yesterday the police stated that the 800.k baht was too expensive - so you really cant say now can you

Of course 800.K baht is expensive.

It leaves a dirty big hole in that 1 million baht reward for ''innocence to be proven.''

The balance left won't fund the purchase of the police farce force teabags to make the tea money.

Those tea bags will need to be hung up to dry no doubt in the unlikely event of anyone actually being arrested and charged for this horrific crime.

Absolute farce , these killers will never be caught because no one is interested in catching them yesterday I watched hundreds of motor bike riders being pulled on Koh Samui for wearing no helmets 300 baht fine not a soldier in sight where doeas all this money go to ! Sadly that is all the police are fit for stopping people and taking money off them when it comes to resolving a crime they are useless and clueless !
