  1. Left long ago, but, there's a print shop up the road from Friendship Market, opposite side of the street.  They do banners and may have a plotter or large printers.  Other than that, look for an architect or engineers office and offer to pay for plots.

Of course China bashing is totally unwarranted isn't it? Even without knowing the true origin of the Covid pandemic, I and countless millions of others are a tad pi55ed off. The systematic cover up, the disappearing of scientists trying to reveal the true potential of the said virus and the pressure applied to the WHO to tag along with the lies they were spouting, all to save face for the CCP, is enough in my book to justify a little bit of China bashing.

For me?  It's enough to nuke 'em!

Pattaya will survive, but it will change, and in some ways the changes will be exactly what the government claims it has been wanting for the last 15 years or more. Somebody should have told them to be careful what they wish for. There are enough Thais and expats living here to keep the most important businesses going, there's certainly no sign of the likes of Friendship, Siamburi's and Foodmart going under any time soon. Outside the tourist area, which is a relatively small part of the total city, not much has changed. It's the places like Beach Road, Second Road, Soi Buakhao, and parts of Jomtien and Naklua that will suffer most. Fewer cheap bars and hotels and restaurants, fewer shops selling tourist tat, and fewer convenience stores. A ghastly situation for the business owners concerned, but it's just possible with sufficient government support that they might be able to remodel those areas to provide better quality facilities built with sustainable tourism in mind. It's not what you'd like if you are wedded to the Pattaya of the past, but it was changing slowly anyway, this will speed up the changes and we may end up with a much nicer city to live in.

Yes, a much nicer city with a pathetically polluted ocean.

I wonder if the golf courses will lower their green fees?  Does anyone know? Compared to Korat area, Pattaya golf is expensive even for average courses..

As for bars, clubs etc., I feel sorry for the workers, for sure, but i don't miss the scams they try on tourists when everything is rosy. Because there was always another mug to rip off coming along. But now there isn't.
I believe westerners won't return in such large numbers when it starts to recover. It's just too expensive compared to up and coming rivals like  Vietnam, Cambodia, even Philippines.

I had intended to stay there and had more than sufficient monthly income and plenty of money in the bank.  Went back to the USA to take care of some business and they changed the rules on the embassy letters.  I will never put $25K in a foreign bank to live there with a military gov't.  So...I won't be back.  That means they lost about $20K I spent every year.  I don't miss the theives, police stops, etc. at all either.  And yes, there are better places that seem to appreciate my presence much more than the Thai people ever did.

Poverty and addiction are not just an individual problems, they are problem stemming from the heart of society at large. They thrive on poor education, hopelessness, and inequality. When a society doesn't work to minimise the gaps and holes that exist between those at the top, and those at the bottom, then poverty and addiction rise up like a stench that effects us all, as can be seen from the callous and heartless responses from local Netizens. The minds that give voice to these words, are the same ones that are a major cause of the problem.

And....they're the one's that have food on their table.  They think that  they can't also fall to the bottom.

multiple sides to this: yes he is an idiot, yes he used a mildly sexual descriptor , which is what most of the west thinks of thailand

An idiot? So I guess Obama was a genius for saying "Marine Corpse" instead of "Marine Corps"?  Or maybe calling his "wife" (lol) Michael?  That was just a slip though since at home he just calls "her" Mike.

On course of destroying the last few spots this city had that made it special.

Almost all GREEN already removed from the formerly called 'green hill' Pratumnak, red-light of the former RED-LIGHT city reduced to a few 'designated areas' to 'save face of Thai people', the formerly 'city that never sleeps' has been put to sleep from 3am even when there was no talk of 'Covid', now fun center 'Walking Street' gets turned into boring 'One-way driving Soi'.

What else can they come up with to destroy the last interesting tourism spots?

How about forcing retired people put $25K in a Thai bank just to live there while spending $30K a year from retirement income?  Then, the banks don't want to give it back if you decide to leave.  Keeps me from moving back.

You might have made a distinction between Thai and foreign tourists. My view is that generally people will stay in their home countries for holidays for many years. Thai tourism in Thailand will slowly get better. It will be a lot faster to return to normal than foreign tourism that will take years.

The dire economic results of the virus and people's unwillingness to fly are key.

    Rooster

Due to the way I was treated by numberous Thai, ungreatfull that I had chosen their country to retire in, I left.  When this situation improves and a vaccine is available, I'll try once again to retire in SEA and spend my $30K a year where I at least feel a bit appreciated.  Thailand is no longer on my list.  They've twisted all the rules to stay there now so it's obvious they don't want me there.  Put $25K in a bank in a country run by the military?  NEVER!

I cannot truly give one of those answers.

The one that is missing:  Tourism in Thailand was in decline pre-Covid and will continue to decline even after it 'restarts'.

I tried to retire there.  Spent 3 years and got fed up with the graft and total underhandedness of the people.  Now to go back I have to load a Thai bank account?  That'll never happen.  So yeah, another SE Asian country that actually like my $30K a year will do.

China is winning in S.E.Asia hands down, while USA does all the talking, China is doing all the building.

Whether at sea or on land.

And it has one huge advantage, 1000 years of integrated history in the area, even before USA was founded.

Yep, and SE Asia's leaders are literally crawling into the shade of China's boot by taking their money.  Give it 20 years and it will ALL be China when the boot comes down!
