Good question. I wonder what the law actually says.
He owes 90% taxes to Thailand.

No foreigner is safe in Thailand. Not one.

People come here thinking they can do things here they would never try to do back home.
Yeah, who wants to die at home when you can go to Thailand to die?

I cannot comprehend the insanity of giving vendors a larger 63 square metre plot (fair enough) but then telling them they cant erect umbrellas until a punter surfaces....in that case for the majority of my last trip at bottom soi 5 we'd have 2 umbrellas up for myself and the Italian guy who sits same concession looking complete pratts isolated under 1 umbrella......these people are utterly stupid they need to get over this face issue and employ some decent European or Australian consultants on how to run a beach for christ sake
Why would they do that? The Thai are already the smartest people in the world! Just ask one.

Ditches dug in rainy season? Expect the substrate, sand, to collapse as quickly as they dig. Expect the ditch to be 3 times wider than it should be. Expect a year or more. Reference? Jomtien drain repair to dump sewage in the ocean.

Booze & cheap women.....what else have they got? Following three years there I finally realized there was nothing there that I couldn't live without. On to better places.

Don't want to get robbed, ripped off, extorted on your vacation? Don't go to Thailand.

So being a monk is classed as a job then?
No different from sending kids out to sell gum and take their money when they get back. It's the job of "respectable" begging.

A true clown show, staffing should hardly be a problem as the number of civil service personnel in this country is mind bogglingly large to begin with.. But the crux is that a lot of said personnel don't work to any kind of regulated / organized system.
I remember the last time I came through to Suvarnabhumi travelling from another ASEAN country, the muppet on the immigration desk for my line (foreign passport) was in no hurry whatsover.. The ASEAN lanes were moving very smoothly, yet the officer on my lane actually came out to an ever growing line to shore it up needlessly.
He then proceeded to scrutinize my passport and long term non B visa even though everything was completely in order... Because of limited pages he was even mumbing in Thai about that not knowing that I can understand a fair bit of the lingo here... Without even a smile, bashes some stamps in, grumbles and flings my passport back.... Basically saying piss off, there is nothing I could ruin your day properly for.
I expect rotten service from time to time here from those in a uniform... But for other travellers it would have looked utterly dreadful and left a highly negative impression. Same with some members of the immigration staff in my province, true battle axes that don't give a flying one about good and speedy service with a smile. TITWhy do I seem to be the only ex-expat that realizes the Thai don't want us there. They only want the money and most all don't give a squat what we think.

I lasted 33 years in Thailand and finally just had enough of the filthy Pattaya sewer they call a beach, garbage all over the streets and nobody picks it up. I have moved to the Philippines where other than Manila the country is clean and beautiful. A school full of kids walked by my house the other day and my wife told me they were cruising their jurisdiction area picking up whatever garbage they could find, and I can tell you there was not much to pick up. The authorities teach pride in your city and country from when the kids are just small.
Wow, I lasted 3 years and couldn't take the lies, backstabbing, police pulling me over constantly because I'm not Thai, and the most important... Finally realizing the Thai don't really like expats to retire there. They want you to stay one week, spend $5000, and go home. They've gotten the last Baht they'll get from me.
-
The Thai way of life is exactly why I tossed my retirement visa in the trash. If I come back it will only be to change planes at the airport. And of course that will count me as a "tourist".

Reminds me of when I used to be on those dating websites. You'd get some girls saying stuff like "I'm Thai lady. I love my culture. You must speak softly and respectfully with me and respect my culture" Yea, 'cos women from other cultures don't have cultures, and if they do, they're not worthy of real respect.
Pure mindless spoilt-child narcissism. If you're all big on your respect, fair play. But you have to respect all. Not cherry pick so you can show how unique and special you are to people who couldn't care less. That's the definition of disrespectful.
My icon sums it up.

Just more proof of how corrupt Thailand really is. Nothing more.

Agree Dave67... my lil sis brought up in Pattaya. We return every year to see friends with our children. Just done 3 weeks and filled every day with family activities.
Beach days were spent at bang saray or koh larn. To be perfectly honest we could have filled another 3 weeks with child friendly activities without needing to venture into any sleaze pit.
Rhompo complex on 2nd road was good early doors... no I'm not naive and we chose a couple of bars wisely that welcomed children, mamasan loved having them and the girls were lovely. Food market also great for kids. This said it was the very quiet season so any money spent was welcome.
The meaning of my "the weather" comment should be obvious. Ko Larn? Sit on the beach. Watch the, let's say, 1000 people going for a swim. You'll see that about 25%, minimum, go for a swim for 3 minutes or less. You'll also see that almost no one is using the restrooms. Figure it out. No, I won't swim in that water either, let alone take my family in it.

If you have to ask you're dumber than a box of rock with the smart ones taken out. I suggest you read Redcat Thailand for a month or two.

Nightmare I'm staying in Jomtien with my family over Christmas and new year
Sorry, you couldn't get me to actually bring a "family" anywhere near Pattaya OR Jomtien. Why? The weather? Bring real antibiotics when you come because they'll sell fake ones there.

Sickening! Equivalent of a $15 fine. Three bucks more than the "falang not wearing a helmet" extortion fee.
-
I had no problem negotiating the hole, however, every time I did I ran straight into the power pole in the middle of the sidewalk....

I feel sorry for the little tyke. I'm going to mail him a box of Big Mac's today...from the USA. I'll deduct it from my taxes as foreign aid/charity. He should have them in a month or so. Oh, he'll be back home by then? I hope they forward mail!
-
Hey, not a problem, So I 12 in Jomtien has structural failure designed right into the new construction. I know the building looks like a mosaic, but it's not.

Yes but my speculation is far more plausible than that suggesting the guy was murdered because he could expose some imaginary Thai "bigshot".
You are lame to think that any falang in Thailand with tons of money is walking around like he's invisible to Thai authority's. They knew everything about him and where his money was before he was even arrested. If heads are gonna roll, it isn't going to be That's when a falang is involved.
-
How about if Thailand has reimbursement of foreigners based on how much foreign aid they received? Like $240 MILLION from US taxpayers following the '04 tsunami? And ad on every dollar since! I would say Americans have prepaid!

ROTFLMFAO! I can't count how many times I've seen a cop on a scooter on the phone driving through Pattaya. What a joke.
