  1. If completely in control then remove all restrictions and end the emergency decree
  2. It’s interesting reading the comments here that nobody mentions the needless loss of life and misery that will be visited on the people of the Ukraine for no other reason than geopolitical ambitions. I very one will be a loser in this situation
  3. This is the Thailand I know and love. Rules for everything with zero interest in enforcement … unless the boss is standing right over your shoulder
  4. The media have not been our friend through all of this. Here they are fear mongering again to access a few more eyeballs. What happened to responsible balanced journalism?
  5. He is just saying this to wind everyone up. Surely he knows the reality.
  6. I never lend money to Thai men or women. Thirty years here has taught me that being paid back by a Thai is as rare as hens teeth (might say the same for many foreigners here as well). So when I do underwrite a “loan”, in cases where I feel financial support is badly needed, I consider the money a donation. I am almost never disappointed.
  7. So why not just let ‘er rip and be done with it? Sure there will be deaths, there are deaths now. They are trying to hold back the tide and sooner or later they are going to have to bite the bullet. May as well do that now when the virus at large is the weakest so far.
  8. Sorry to say but the nearest good architect to Chiang Mai is likely in Singapore. I suppose some are dishonest, though we have not had that problem. They just don’t know their craft. If you plan to use a Thai architect and don’t plan to spend mega bucks at one of the top firms then you better read up and know your stuff because the run of the mill architect in Thailand will not.
  9. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that I would have a child take one of these vaccines. There are virtually no Covid deaths in this age group and the vaccine does not confer either immunity or non transmissibility benefits.
  10. Like he said …. unnecessarily complicated. Even the notion that they need retirement visas that have to be renewed as frequently as they do and in person is the very definition of “unnecessarily complicated”.
  11. I know I am stepping on many toes that I should not but I wonder if we have as much freedom in the US as you seem to think we do. Perhaps some people do …
  12. Well if this is the kind of advice the government is acting on it’s no wonder that the Covid policies are so pathetic.
  13. Don’t ignore the role of higher interest rates on both the US$ and gold. Gold does well during inflation but does poorly when rates are riding/high
  14. Where to invest, a first world problem for sure. It’s worth seriously considering real assets such as real estate or collectibles (e.g. high end watches always popular in Thailand). I have money in gold but gold is going nowhere unless the US dollar weakens and interest rates stay low. So it’s a maybe. If you want to tough it out in stocks look to buy stock of companies that have a strong balance sheet and make lots of money … the day of meme stocks, SPAC’s and high growth no profit companies are over for the time being. Oil and Financial sectors should do OK this year. Crypto? You will need a big brass pair to go down this road but who can say what the upside is once prices bottom.
  15. I am not trying to paint the entire population with the same brush but there is a disturbing lack of impulse control in Thailand. The number of murders, and for the flimsiest of reasons, is rather shocking.
  16. They are doing this because they think it’s easy … like in the days of price controls. It’s not easy this time. Costs are really up and Chinese demand is here now. If they are unable to get a grip on this, there will be civil strife ahead. How can Thai’s absorb these price increases having lost their shirt the last couple of years.
