  1. I am not trying to paint the entire population with the same brush but there is a disturbing lack of impulse control in Thailand. The number of murders, and for the flimsiest of reasons, is rather shocking.
  2. They are doing this because they think it’s easy … like in the days of price controls. It’s not easy this time. Costs are really up and Chinese demand is here now. If they are unable to get a grip on this, there will be civil strife ahead. How can Thai’s absorb these price increases having lost their shirt the last couple of years.
  3. If there really is a global recession in 2023, as many predict, this will be a nasty two punch for Thailand
  4. So these folks accused the hotel/hotel staff of theft of a gold chain. Then turns out that it’s one of their own friends who lifted the chain. Maybe they should have been a bit slower with their blame.
  5. If you have never had the pleasure of living in Russia for even a short time I can tell you that I never met a Russian who gave up easily.
  6. I assume for the same reasons that people on this forum keep on like they know what they are talking about … in respect to Covid.
  7. I often wonder how many years they will continue to ask we remove our shoes at airport security checkpoints. Yes, they never let go once they sink their teeth in.
  8. I am in awe of the people who can still be bothered to even read about Covid any longer … much less motivate themselves to respond. I am excluding myself from this group of people I am in awe of ????
  9. A serious consideration. Most dogs do poorly when confronting a python or poisonous snake. Unless your dog has dealt with this before you will want to consider keeping him on a leash.
  10. Just when I though things could not get much worse. In case you doubt that he is a real possibility, he has the full support of that other pillar of Thai society …. and I am not talking about the army.
  11. Well just take a look at the men’s rankings. An even greater mystery.
  12. One would think it prudent to not hold a count down event. There are many other more enjoyable ways to ring in the new year than crush a large group of people together …. at least under the present circumstances.
  13. I have USA and Canadian PP accounts. Works fine. You can use an Authenticator app or register both phone numbers with PP. if you go the phone number route it pop up the first number registered. If this is your Thai telephone then it will send the security code to it. If you need a second number then select “Try another way” and it will offer to send a security code to the second number you have registered with them
  14. I learned from my Thai wife to tip everyone who tries to be nice or helpful. It makes me feel good, it makes them happy, I always get a smile and special attention when I return and …. well what goes around comes around.
  15. The consequences of a China disaster of this nature will be far reaching. Collateral damage will be global. The global debt bubble is enormous particularly when you add derivatives. An implosion in China debt markets will shake global confidence that is already teetering. Have to wonder who will be buying all that Sovereign debt when China steps back from the auctions. Hope I am blowing smoke and turn out to be dead wrong … it’s been known to happen ????. Might be a good time to consider investing in real assets.
  16. Don’t do it. They are hideous. Tried last year and spoiled Christmas dinner.. subsequently tried Thai raised fresh Turkey and that was a major disappointment as well. I am going to try goose or ham this year.
  17. Having checked, you are correct, I was wrong/out of date. How about wearing some manners and put a tiny bit of effort into stating your correction with something more polite than “You’ve written complete nonsense”. I am sure it’s not beyond you.
  18. First off, marrying a Thai is no guarantee of Thai citizenship - ever. Thai citizenship is awarded on the basis of a points system (like many other countries). You have to obtain a PR first. That in itself is a arduous and lengthy process. At a minimum obtaining a PR will require three years of Thai income tax filings … here is a short list of requirements for a Thai PR
  19. As far as I can tell, Thai banks will accept any amount you want to send in. I have sent, from the US, amounts up to 4 million Baht and nobody blinks an eye.
  20. We end up spending half the year in Thailand and half in my home country. Can’t speak for others but I am certainly happier in my home country … and my Thai wife of 22 years happier in her home country.
  21. Just when I though I had reached the point where I was immune to Thai hypocrisy … and then this. Also, what has culture got to do with this? Topless was the rule 100 years ago. I guess they are out to defend modern Thai culture only. Don’t get me started on go-go bars and knocking shops.
