I have to comment again on this.
I spend 600k a year in Thailand but bank more, my wife spends another 360K but also banks much more. We own our own house and have no debt. That amount gives us a good standard of living year round, two vehicles, trips every two months and holidays twice a year. There's nothing we want that we don't already have or can't easily buy out of cashflow. Medical comes out of cash and we have 4 mill set aside for that. We eat out probably 65% of lunches, don't drink or do the night scene.
Can I ask what area you live?
I guess it could still be done in Bangkok if you are a home owner

I wouldn't go because it's usually full of 70-80 year old men whinging that bar prices have gone up by 2 baht, their pensions are frozen, and that their 21-year-old hooker GF has left them for pastures new, and the whole place smells of stale urine.
Just right for him.
Fits the age group

I was never employed on the railways.
In the UK we have a phenomena known as "preserved" or "heritage" railways. These are lines which British Railways closed in the 60s and 70s, and were taken over and are run by preservation societies using restored steam locomotives rescued from scrapyards and rebuilt. Most of the staff are volunteers, but they are trained and examined under the (strict) supervision of the Railways Inspectorate.
One such Railway is the West Somerset Railway. A former branch line from Taunton to Minehead it was reopened in stages from 1976. I was a volunteer for many years, and was "passed" as a fireman, diesel locomotive driver, signalman and guard. I ended up as the Railway's Guards Inspector, responsible for examining and assessing guards.
So never employed, but heavily involved for over twenty years, and yes I was a train driver.
As a matter of interest do they have still have Conductors/guards on the trains in the UK , usually their role is to blow the whistle, open & close the doors for passengers,

Perhaps:

- Riding motorcycle not wearing moganok?
- Riding motorcycle or driving a car and fail breathalyser or blood alcohol test?
Truly risky especially if your elderly, I guess ScoreCard YOU could take those risks at your age 😂

Get a hobby, an absorbing one.
Now many will think this weird, but I am building a model railway.
I have long had an interest in Railways, in particular the Somerset and Dorset system in South West England, which closed in 1966. I have a large collection of books on this railway. I am building a model of a " might have been" branch line from Highbridge to Axemouth (Weston Super Mare), specifically the terminus station at Axemouth Wharf.
I am fascinated by, and enjoy immensely, creating timetables, locomotive and rolling stock diagrams, and recreating them in 2 mm scale. The aim to produce as realistic as possible model facsimile of a particular " might have been" piece of railway from 1960.
Many will say it is weird. Perhaps it is, but I still enjoy a normal social life, and occasional adventures in the nightlife arena, in fact this post may be slightly incoherent as I have just returned from a night of minor debauchery.
My daughter (18) thinks I am bonkers (maybe I am) but her friends, male and female are fascinated by my model trains!
As the only shop I am aware of in the Kingdom which is a Peco agent is in Bangkok it gives me an excuse for an occasional foray into "the smoke"!
Was you a train driver?
Did you work on the railway??
If your in Pattaya there is a guy who owns a cafe and builds train sets with match sticks

Are you serious? Blood test weekly? In between bar visit?
I don't go to bars to drink alcohol.
As for being hypochondriac whilst in Pattaya last year for my 5 week stay I visited Dr Oliver I believe about twice or 3 a week so much he didn't charge me some visits ,he actually walked out of his room and said to the reception not to charge me today , I done blood tests , liver tests , etc fantastic doctor 👍

Yes I was looking at spending around 2 million in Pattaya for at least a 1 bedroom condo
I like that Arcadia waters condo in I think it's Soi 5 thappayra?
But may have to spend more I don't want to be cramped in a small room
Then trying living on less than a million baht a year
I don't drink or smoke but even then I'm unsure if it's possible
I like to go to the doctor every week for a blood test and check up just in case I have a illness I don't know,I think Dr Oliver was charging me around 700- 1000 baht I cant remember
Medical insurance maybe the killer in the budget

I don't know because I can't do this <deleted> in my head anymore and I don't want to pull up a calculator....but it's roughly 257 million baht. If he only lives 30 years then it falls to 192 million baht.
3 million baht a year ?
Your joking
I'm planning on living on around 800k to 1 million baht a year

Way of the world. Youtube is just glorified beggars. Podcasters all interview each other and pat each other on the back. The world is kind of like incest but with your clothes on.
I find my joy in a burger place in the hills or a steakhouse full of Thais.
Steakhouse full of Thais?
How does that give you joy staring at people babbling away and screeching chatting loudly annoying laughing just the same as any nationality but no you chose Thais not Filipinos but Thais !
My joy would be a steakhouse full of no one ! Absolutely no one one !

I have steadfastly dodged popping in to the expat society (or whatever it is) in Chiang Mai for 18 straight months. Even with the tantalizing offer of a discount buffet.
It's down to sheer, ignorant predjudice on my part that they're going to be stiffs and do-nothings -based on nothing.
Do you share my view? Based on what?
Have you ever attended such a meeting? How wrong am I?
Sounds like it's ,"the case of the smiling stiffs?

Moo Baan Don Chan area. KItchen has western style cupboards, after 9 years many doors are degrading, especially at the bottom because of poor quality. Boxes and granite top are seem to be OK.
Just the doors need to be replaced. Already visited Homikitch and 1 other place. Both claim will have to build the full kitchen again at enormous cost.
Doors will need to be custom made to specific non standard sizes and fitted with soft close / full close hinges. Looking for good quality expected to last long-term.
Any suggestions very much appreciated, thanks.
I thought in other posts you said you were near 80😲 so ummmm.......I suggest only a 5 year warranty GrandDad☺️

Why would they want to make eye contact with another man while shopping?
If it happens it deserves a nod, but otherwise it comes across as a bit odd or queer.
Another man? How do you even know that "man" identifies as a man?😂

I’m impressed by your perseverance. I didn’t care about the money, I was more enraged by his deceit. If he had called me and said it might take a year or two, I would have been fine - but when he cut communication I realised he was duping me from the beginning.Ex work colleague?
Then you must of got on well at work with him from 10 years ago
Others he borrowed off must of gave up chasing him I guess
He was a lowlife

I have met many foreigners here living in Thailand and one Californian man I was good friends with . He needed help with getting a visa and I loaned him 25000 to pay an agent . Now 8 months later still no return of the money even though he promised the money back in 2 months.
I do not want to see him again as I don't want any trouble.
You sound like a good man and he is a lowlife man ,your wife could see that .
I understand you don't want to chase him ,just learn by it .
He was never your friend.
He used you , stay away from him ,he doesn't have your friendship anymore , he will regret that forever

Just watching YouTube videos of expats in the Philippines fighting each other even though these people were friends for years in that community and all "cliques" or groups
So whether your a expat in any south east Asia country do you get involved in your expat community?
Whether it's Bali , Vietnam, Cambodia Thailand or in this case Philippines
This example I used was a smaller city in the Philippines
Do you avoid expats?
Have you found them to be great friends
