    The pick-up must be registered to somebody. The chassis and engine numbers must be on file. Maybe the police are trying to contact other runners, and locate were they run to? 😉

    This area is just 25 meters from the main road. You would have no need to walk down their as the wall stops you accessing the beach. It must have been a shady meeting place for what ever reason.

    They've obviously skimped on a tunnel boring machine (just mentioned by N P Knight) which is now standard for this operation in most other countries. Their very expensive & need proper trained personnel to operate but have an excellent safety record. Hence the reason there not using one.

    I'm pretty sure there's a back-up system on these lifts. For them both to fail same time must be a very rare event. Hope some-bodies checking the safety test certificate which covers an actual brake test.
