"passengers not wearing helmets could be detained at a police station" Is this true? There is no reference to back this claim. Many years ago I took a motor bike taxi near the Phetchaburi MRT station to a hospital and motor taxi driver actually had a spare helmet for a passenger. Never before or after did I see a motor bike taxi carry a helmet for their passenger. Now police expect people on foot are going to carry a helmet as they walk around in malls, window shopping on the street in anticipation of using a motor bike taxi? If that is the case, motor bike taxi's will cease to operate.

Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Last year I looked into getting refund on tax withheld on interest from a Thai savings account. I've had a tax ID for several years but made no use of it (just got it for the experience). Long story short, the bank wanted me to fill out a US IRS federal form that reveals all my income taxed in the US. Not to be submitted to the bank but to a private company allegedly working for the bank (bank people seemed unknowing about the private company) . So in my mind any illegal exposure of my personal US tax information could not be attributed to the bank relative to suing the bank for releasing my personal data to unauthorized bank contacts. As the interest withheld was typically 200 baht against interest income of generally 1,300 it wasn't worth revealing my US tax filings. I'll just eat the tax. PS: I hold a LTR visa for wealthy retired individuals which does not tax foreign income. So happy to "donate" to Thailand 200 baht annually. -
With substantial assistance from the Allies. And Allies pressure the West of Germany helped Russia to apply significant pressure from the East. And so far as helping win WW2, Russia demanded the spoils of defeating the Axis in Eastern Europe and Balkans by claiming sovereignty over countries it passed through to defeat the German army. Ultimately, giving rise to the Berlin Wall and a divided Germany for which it RULED as an authoritarian despot.

Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert

I thought I read recently in Asean Now that income generated outside will be taxed regardless of where or not any of it was transferred to Thailand. Maybe that only applied to Thais and not foreign residents. -

Kanchanaburi Immigration Police Crack Down on Illegal Migrants

But does not align with asylum. While the Royal Thai Government does not have an asylum system for the protection of refugees, UNHCR becomes the only organisation responsible for receiving and processing asylum applications. As the Thailand Human Rights Commission was recently accredited by the UNHRC, Thailand should in spirit of the UNHRC consider careful treatment of the "illegal" persons. -

This should not be the only agency to review A&L. The SEC and Department of Revenue should also be in the review. It's more than a matter of "unusual wealth" but how it was kept and/or disbursed. -
Pattaya bike shop owner demands police action after burglary
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Why does it feel the local police have been compromised or worse yet, participants. Such is a perception when police delay investigation, refuse dialog with victim and deflect any assurances to the victim that investigation is proceeding with due diligence. -
Thailand's Public Debt Stays Sustainable Amid Fiscal Strategy

Nice. But don't lose sight for increased funding basic programs for Thais such as National Health Program, subsidies for agriculture, manufacturing investments, etc. Need to cap military spending and new acquisitions. -
Immigration - totally useless
Srikcir replied to Foxx's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
For almost 10 years with a non O-A visa I always file notification by mail with EMS tracking and enclosed post stamp return envelope. Only once did I never receive the return notification. For about seven years Tracking was acknowledged by an agent mark. Then no acknowledged mark but still received new 90 day notice in the mail. Now I have a LTR visa requiring notification annually, simply go to OSS ,Chamchuri Square Building, Bangkok (next to an MRT station) that has a window for LTR only. Submit LTR notification, receive next date placed in passport - 10 minutes. -

Greta Thunberg Joins Protests in Georgia Against Alleged Election Fraud
Srikcir replied to Social Media's topic in World News
If confirmed, Georgian Dream's victory would prove a blow to those Georgians who hope for closer integration with Europe in a vote billed as a choice between the West and Russia. Early official results with 70% of precincts counted, representing the majority of votes cast, showed the ruling party had won 53% of the vote, the electoral commission said. The results do not include most ballots cast by Georgians living overseas. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/georgia-votes-election-seen-stark-choice-between-russia-west-2024-10-26/ Putin will not allow a Georgian break away for sovereign independence. Otherwise Putin will have to conduct another Special Operation. -
What a great job opportunity. And cultural display for Italy. Maybe we'll see the Star of India - world’s oldest active sailing ship. https://sdmaritime.org/visit/the-ships/star-of-india/ I would like to see the USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides - a three-masted wooden-hulled heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She is the world's oldest commissioned naval warship still afloat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constitution

Foreigners brawl on Patong Beach sparks criticism of Thai laws
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
It's not the laws are weak but the emphasis of civil disobedience over criminal disobedience. The National Police seems less focused (or ignorant?) on enforcing laws from a criminal aspect to enforcing civil peace which has little to do with the rule of law. -

Thailand seeks Japanese investment in high-tech sectors
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It seems like Thailand has a "give and take" foreign fund policy: you give and I take. Rarely do you see (any?) Thailand exporting investment funds to other nations to aid in developing import businesses for Thai products and materials. -
Thailand seeks Japanese investment in high-tech sectors
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand has been on a dedollarization "warpath," preferring BRIC currencies to other international currencies, many of which are tied to the USD. Japanese yen is not a BRIC currency. But if Thailand wants Japanese investments, it will be baht for yen.
