Thai Stocks Surge with New Government Policies: Investors Eye Mid-Caps
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Especially since government efforts to control thru drug prices comparisons has failed from PM's Prayut through Thavisin: Some private hospitals were reported to charge the prices of drugs 8000-16000% higher than the average prices. Private hospitals to display prices of drugs, says Thai Government - With the new measure, private hospitals, manufacturers, importers and wholesalers are required to report sales prices to the Department of Internal Trade. 2019 Private hospitals under fire as government cracks down on skyrocketing costs. The Internal Trade Department tightens control on private hospitals, urging them to play ball in the battle against soaring medical expenses. The govern ment demands transparency and cooperation from over 300 private medical institutions. 2023 Now no publication of price comparisons, price control actions, etc. I don't expect Paetongtarn will pursue private hospital drug pricing given the strength of Thai oligarch interests. -
False. Indoneasia is a representative democratic republic wherein the President is both Head of State and government and sustained through legislation by the electorate through free and fair election of their multi-party representatives. Singapore has a democratic parliamentary democratic system thriugh free and open election similar to Germany wherein the President is Head of State and the government and Cabinet is led by a Prime Minister as head of government. One need only look at the long-term stability and economic success of these two countries that shows they fair substantially better than their Southeast Asian undemocratic counterparts.

Maybe it's about time to change from military-style uniforms identified with undemocratic coups to business attire for civil service. "Demilitarize" civil service that should be serving the Thai public. -
Illegal Migrant Accused of Horrific Murder of New York Family
Srikcir replied to Social Media's topic in World News
More American citizens kill people in the US than documented illegal immigrants (vs. legal immigrants). Thus, Trump should deport those millions of Americans? Which he can do under Project 2025. -
Second Assassination Attempt-Secret Service get Trump to safety
Srikcir replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Until more is known about the alleged attacker, motivation for the alleged attack plan may actually come from a radical right who is angry that Trump apparently will not win the election because of his own political failures and bring an end to Project 2025, bring to an end nationalists' hopes of a Putin-styled dictatorship. -
Second Assassination Attempt-Secret Service get Trump to safety
Srikcir replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Apart from Simple1 comment that attempt is alleged until proven in a court of law, the so-called attempt amounted to planning an assassination and never got to the actual firing a weapon at Trump. As its legal in Florida to open carry any gun, prosecution will have to prove "intent to attack Trump". -
Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’
Srikcir replied to Social Media's topic in World News
ALL If I were a corporate CEO or billionaire enterpriser who claim to work 24/7 (business dinners, travel, field tours, marketing), I'd claim 90% of my time as overtime. Thus, only 10% of my income is taxable. Note that social security is sustained through taxes. Cut taxes and you cut social security benefits. So Trump will "give you a hand" but cut your foot off. -
Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’

When Trump vows to give Americans a tax break, LOOK OUT. "Trump's Trillion-Dollar Hit to Homeowners," Oct. 2019 by Allen Sloan, propublica.org : "By reducing deductions for real estate taxes, Trump's 2017 TX plan has harmed millions - and helped give corporations a $680 billion gift." -
Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’
Srikcir replied to Social Media's topic in World News
First proposed by Libertarian Rep. Ron Paul in 2012 in Las Vegas. Subsequently Trump became POTUS in 2017. But never initiated such elimination. Why? Can Trump be believed? "Critics say Project 2025 erodes overtime pay" https://the hill.com/homenews/campaign/4778755-does-project-2025-propose-eliminating-overtime-pay/ "during former President Trump's administration, the Department of Labor set the overtime pay threshold for salaried workers at a disgraceful $35,500 per year - meaning any workers earning more than that were not eligible for overtime pay even if they worked more than 40 hours." (my italics) Thus, Trump eliminated overtime for about 8 million workers. POTUS Biden has since raised the threshold so that more salaried workers will qualify for overtime. Note that Trump doesn't distinguish between salaried and nonsalaried workers. -

People’s Party urges urgent rewrite of 2017 constitution
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
A rewrite isn't necessary. Just reinstate the 2007 Constitution, not the best but there was a reason the Prayut junta immediately abolished it in its coup. Such reinstatement would likely reverse Prayut coup amensty. However, current election, judicial, anti-corruption and state-owned institutions need to be reformulated by elected representatives of The People to best serve The People. Immediately thereafter, new elections. -
30 Karen tribespeople arrested in a Kanchanaburi national park
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Central Thailand News
Not a cult. Many Karen are stateless and do not have access to basic human rights. Thailand does not recognize them as refugees but as illegal immigrants. They are not allowed a path to Thai citizenship. Here they went off the state reservation. Unfortunate Thai zenophobic reaction. Back to your reservation - How dare you! -
PM Paetongtarn's Policy Statement critisised as Echo of Thaksin’s Vision
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Look under the covers of government and you'll see the junta...that's how Thavisin and Paetongtarn were "selected." In practice the public electorate no longer exists in terms of controlling sovereignty of their nation. -
Thailand's New PM Outlines Bold 10-Point Plan to Revamp Economy
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
On what day in 2024 was the Thavisin government placed into caretaker status that would trigger as per the Constitution a national election to determine the majority party in the House to nominate a PM? There was none. More than two-thirds of the public registered electorate was prevented from voting for a party that would nominate a non-PTP candidate. How? Coincidentally, immediately after MFP was banned as a representative of its electorate base in the House, PTP coalition gained majority in the House by default that led to Paetongtarn's selection. No Senate vote required. Paetongtarn like Thavisin was simply selected, albeit apparently somewhat sensitive that both PM's were not constitutionally "elected" by the Thai electorate as would be required in a democracy. From such chain of events, I can understand the desire to change the Constitution. -

Cambodian woman caught begging in Bangkok with three children
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Blame the cause and not the result. The woman is making a marginal better living in the lack of any safety net in either country. Thailand and Cambodia need to collaborate on better life for their homeless/unemployed/stateless (likely without a passport) along their borders. -

Thailand Accelerates 145 Billion Baht Digital Wallet Payout
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Without the digital aspects of the proposed E-Wallet scheme, this revised scheme appears to be more corruptible and abused. In the past, ie., under PM Prayut, such "gifts" to the public never improved the economy other than to increase government debt. -
Thailand Advocates Innovative Tax Strategy for Low-Income Earners
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This is a very viable system. It seems similar in goal to the popular US earned income tax credit system - a refundable tax credit for low- to moderate-income individuals that can reduce their tax bill or result in a refund if the qualifications are met. There is no credit for not working. However, I believe the Thailand NIT scheme would be more manageable with less bureaucratic involvement. -
What would be an interesting statistic would be how many Russian soldiers are killed by Russian forces (ground and air) versus Ukrainian soldiers killed by Ukraine forces. Citations welcomed. Currently it appears to be Russian military policy that Russian soldiers who are suspect to surrender to Ukraine rather than being killed by Ukrainian forces, are murdered beforehand by Russian forces. On the other hand Ukraine prefers to take Russian soldiers as POW's for exchange with Ukraine POW's who can be recycled back into battle. Putin seems to fear such exchanges as it could bolster Ukraine forces and so a policy by some Russian officers to kill surrendering Ukrainian soldiers a la Nazi style.
