  1. Thailand has been there and done it before. COVID insurance for foreigners in Thailand 90-day coverage to cost 2,500 to 14,000 baht. About $70-$380 at today's exchange rate. https://www.thaiembassy.com
  2. Please cite that law and whether Thailand is bound by it. International "laws" require a nation's ratification to accept responsibility and compliance with such "laws", ie., the Geneva Convention, UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1951 Refugee Convention.
  3. Given the size of the fire and its penetration to the deck, it's questionable that there was any fire prevention/fighting systems in the engine room. Also seems little to no fire suppression by the crew. Certainly no passenger safety procedures or escape equipment in the event of a fire. Operators and oversight government department should be questioned with prejudice.
  4. Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital is also a possibility, ie., even if for a second opinion. Check their web site. Both Bumrungrad and Samitivej accept certain foreign medical insurances that substantially cut your out of pocket costs. For some foreign policies, 100% coverage for in-patient care.
  5. Long stay foreign resident - This year I now get 3-4 scam calls a day telling from the country code. But when I speak English, callers hang up.
  6. An unelected body petitions an unelected body to seek MFP dissolution. "Thainess" democracy at its best.
  7. VAT and Customs Duty taxes may be controlled by Free Trade Agreements, eg., zero VAT. PM Thaksin has been actively negotiating many new FTA's to boost trade. So predicting the additional revenues from additional 7% VAT on imported goods maybe be complicated.
  8. "Here's Why Gold Is At A Record High - Forbes" "Gold has added 394% in value over the past 20 years, according to FactSet data, below the S&P 500's 522% return over the two-decade period, but still a remarkable feat considering gold is an inorganic material without the potential to return profits to shareholders as a stock would." 9. Requires an aggregate of 180 days, so not a Thai resident tor taxation purposes.
  10. As per Smokin Joe Posted March 15, 2024 in Aseannow.com "Your VA Disability is a Govt Pension and can not be taxed by Thailand per the DTA." All Double Tax Agreements are available on the Thai Revenue Dept website.
  11. Fines won't bring back the dead. Why wait for that to happen?
  12. I look forward to UK making its English more understandable.
  13. What about their employers also be charged? Or is there no law that they violate by hiring foreigners without work permits - and knowingly. Did these foreigners just sneak in to these establishments and begin to work without any Thai employer awareness? The various jobs related especially to the entertainment industry are filled by the owners who surely must know requirement that foreigners need work permits. I don't see how recent reported foreigners being arrested for lack of work permits that otherwise require Thai employer pre-approval be able to work without employer knowledge. Without arresting Thai employers, the work permit system is a scam on foreigners.
  14. I've know the area before construction began and haven't seen much in the way of traffic delays in Rama II Road in Bang Khun Thian area due to this construction. The construction activities themselves appear to be very controlled and confined with minimal interference with public traffic. Albeit, I would have preferred a light rail system that would be more pollution free but it can't carry cargo.
  15. Add that to parents with helmetless very young sitting on parent's lap on a motorbike.
  16. Also consider in turning to the left, the driver sits on the right side of the truck. Even with left side mirrors it would be difficult to see a motorbike close to the truck.
  17. Any comments on Cebu and its beaches? Seems the most desirable area for expat life.
  18. The so-called balance is deceptive and somewhat propoganda. China doesn't claim sovereignty over Thai waters as it does with The Philippines regarding the South China Sea. Also, Thailand doesn't oppose China's illegal claim over the entire South China Sea wherein The Hague tribunal overwhelmingly backed the Philippines. China's political and economic infiltration of Thailand has been much more successful than in The Philippines. Having communist and authoritarian countries surrounding Thailand is an advantage to China's authoritarian influence over Thailand. The Philippines history has been connected with Europe, Spanish and the US trade and occupation, war with Japan in WW2 versus Thailand's history has been more connected with its own colonization, aggression and "partnership" with Japan in WW2. Regarding Thailand's "balance" with the US, it's largely one-sided by Thailand and mostly directed by trade.
  19. Unless China finds a substitute buyer for that sub, Thailand is going to have to make major concessions to retract its sub purchase without loss of its massive payments. Meanwhile: "In 2012 the RTN bought the SCTT (Submarine Command Team Trainer) simulator from Rheinmetall. Delivered in 2014 and now operating at Sattahip Naval Base, it simulates generic systems and capabilities of diesel-electric submarines." https://www.shephardmefia.com So a whole submarine command operating for nine years, submarine downpayment and annual installnents made, only to get frigates instead? RTN competence and waste of Treasury funds need review (hint: MFP next House session).
  20. Going into the sea at 3am without weed is just as stupid, especially without a buddy. Hard to criticize weed soley for his action.
  21. Going into the sea at 3am without weed is just as stupid, especially without a partner. Hard to criticize weed for his action.
  22. So drive your self. There's no mandate for auto drive and to my knowledge nowhere as yet full auto drive has been approved.
  23. RTP needs to be decentralized from a national to a stratified organization (ie., nation, province, district) whereby each level of leadership is elected and directly accountable to its representative public. Imagine the whole of police organizations in the US were under the US Deparment of Justice but with the DOJ appointed by an unelected presidential committee - chaos, corruption.
  24. To be fair he has been engaged in Free Trade Agreements needed for quarterly GDP growth but without counter offering any investments in trade nations. There's no quid pro quo in FTA's without quid pro quo in investments. Nations aren't going to seriously agree to FTA's if there's no balance of investments.
  25. Nominated by an unelected committee, denied by an unelected Senate. Situation normal. "Thainess democracy."
