  1. If they are coming it's highly likely they do not know about Asean Now. I didn't discover it until I had been here for awhile--and I still run into people living here who have never heard of it.
  2. Thank you for giving the same answer I would have!
  3. It's not 'modern America' to blame. It's Trump. He is the sole cause of the ridiculous idea that the 2020 election was 'stolen' from him--this after he lost by 7 million votes. He is directly responsible for The Big Lie, which has resulted in America being in the state it is right now. It's all on Trump.
  4. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
  5. i certainly hope he will lose--and that will be the last of him. Good riddance.
  6. Happy here. Great lifestyle. Beautiful home. Pattaya has everything I need for everyday, year-round living--with Bangkok an easy drive away.
  7. Never supported Trump--I have a working brain.
  8. Watched it. She was absolutely terrific!
  9. Terrific news. Harris is competitive in Iowa due to women voters. Hopefully, women will turn out in record numbers in all the states in this super close election. Meanwhile, Trump just said he shouldn't have given up the presidency after he lost by 7 million votes in 2020. He should have refused to leave. What more evidence does anybody with a functioning brain need to finally understand how dangerous he is to America? With those comments he is telling you loud and clear that he does NOT just want to be a dictator for a day. Wake up and smell the coffee already.
  10. Wait a minute. I thought this only ever happened in Pattaya--and only ever to Indian tourists.
  11. Don't sugarcoat it. Trump's stark raving mad.
  12. Let The Big Lie, 2024 edition, begin.
  13. Jail time, followed by deportation and at least a 10 year ban.
  14. Interesting story today on Yahoo showing Harris actually polling ahead of Trump in Iowa, in the latest polling. And, as you say, her lead there is mostly being driven by female voters.
  15. Hope the court tosses it in the trash--where it, and Trump, belong.
  16. I would have absolutely no interest in this. I would rather buy property in my Thai spouse's name, which I have done.
  17. I've used it once, it was fine. The worst airport I've used recently was Dubai. That was horrible. We had to take both a long train ride AND a long bus to get to the plane--this after very long walks in the terminal and going from one floor to another floor several times. Standing the whole time. When we finally got to the plane we had to board outside using one of those pull-up stairs from the 1960s. Awful.
  18. Looking forward to seeing the refreshed design.
  19. By the time this ever gets built--likely sometime in the 22nd or 23rd century--we'll probably have the ability to tele-transport ourselves anywhere.
  20. Haven't they been 'set' to do this for several years now? Just get on with it already.
  21. Tenant paid the water, electric, and internet. Our only expense was the 1st month's rent to the agent for his fee. Normally we would have also had the monthly condo maintenance fee to pay but the first year was paid by Sansiri for first buyers. I think the condo fee was 50 baht a sqm so with our 35 sqm condo that would have been 1,750 baht a month. We sold the unit just at the end of the first year. This was when the project first opened; I don't know what rents are now.
  22. We have facial scanning, and an ID card to activate the scanning, to enter the elevator lobby at my Bangkok condo. Sounds good, right? The problem is the automatic door opens and closes slowly and you could march a band through while it's open. Illegal renters just wait until a resident enters or exits the automatic door. Once you're in the elevator lobby it's just a non-photo id to operate the elevator. Nothing is required to use the gym or pool--where I'd really like the illegal renters blocked. I suggest a condo project serious about the problem use photo IDs and have staff checking them. Office staff, in addition to security staff, could be used and rotated. It might be that the extra security would only be needed for enough time to put the illegal operations out of business, with unannounced spot checks after that using regular staff.
  23. They can't out vote the law but they can out vote any efforts on the part of the condo to make illegal short-term rentals more difficult--such as more security checking photo condo ID cards, stronger sign-in procedures with condo photo ID cards to use the gym, pool, and other facilities, photo ID cards to operate the elevators, etc. Plus, strict procedures and a high replacement fee to replace or change the photo ID.
  24. Totally agree. I am another Pattaya resident who 'never visits the night life areas'. You can live a very nice life here and never go to those areas. In the 14 years we have been here, my spouse and i have lived in Jomtien, Pratamnuk, North Pattaya, and Wong Amat--and have liked each of those different areas, each with its own vibe. Now, we are in a nice pool villa in yet another area, the Darkside, and we are liking it here, as well. There's a whole different world on the east side of Sukhumvit we are enjoying discovering. I think there are many Pattaya residents like us who recognize all that Pattaya has to offer to full-time residents. I've posted that I think Pattaya is actually a better place to live as a resident than to visit as a tourist and that gets truer the longer I live here.
