  1. Much ado about relatively nothing. 614 cases since Oct. 2023. So, a tad over 100 cases a month out of millions of tourists, with most of the cases, from the article, on the petty side. A handful of the 614, also relatively minor cases but blown way out of proportion, have garnered lots of publicity so something must be seen to be done. These high-profile but petty cases wouldn't have caused a ripple in the US.
  2. Why not do some research for yourself? Which is what I did when I saw the statement.
  3. Good luck with your Whack-A-Mole. How'd that work out with whacking Future Forward?
  4. Two spoiled brats. Driving without a license charge, though--that's rich. True for about every tourist allowed to illegally rent a motorbike in Thailand--which too often leads to injury, death, or trouble such as this.
  5. Which is also a lie. More crime, including violent crime, is committed by legal Americans than illegal immigrants on a percentage basis. From one study: The study found that undocumented immigrants had substantially lower crime rates than native-born citizens and legal immigrants across a range of felony offenses. Relative to undocumented immigrants, U.S.-born citizens are over 2 times more likely to be arrested for violent crimes, 2.5 times more likely to be arrested for drug crimes, and over 4 times more likely to be arrested for property crimes.
  6. Tourists need to stop visiting CM. Period. Massive bad publicity and massive loss of tourist money would be the only spur to get any government action. Right now it's just blah blah blah, as always, plus some free masks thrown in. Pathetic. At least Pita has a constructive plan, for both short-term and long-term.
  7. How even a single person could support this unhinged, dangerous crackpot is beyond me.
  8. Don't become a member if, as you say, you think you will become 'part of the problem'. instead, become a member if you think you will become part of the solution. Not an easy choice to run for a condo board. It could be an easier choice if you know some other resident-owners with views similar to yours who might also be talked into serving--together as new blood you might be able to make some changes, especially if you can get the farang members already on the board to work with you, as well. Also helpful to have some resident-owners not on the board backing you up if you become a board member. You might consider starting, if you don't already have one, a Line group of condo owner-residents as a good way to keep in communication and exchange information on condo issues.
  9. Public sex. It can happen anywhere, not just Pattaya. It was Phuket's turn a few weeks ago. Googled news stories of couples having sex outdoors and found Bangkok, Chiang Mai, New York City, a Welsh public beach in broad daylight, a west London business park, a Tasmanian cemetary, Zhumadian, China, Bondi, Australia, Salisbury, England, Bogota, Columbia . . . And, so on. But, apparently much more scandalous when it happens in Pattaya.
  10. Well, there's a ringing endorsement: UNHINGED. Will look great on a campaign poster.
  11. Apparently being told THREE times was not enough as a previous poster thought the 36 million prediction came from TAT and not Kasikorn.
  12. Let's eliminate parking and create an extra traffic lane on North Pattaya Road while you're at it.
  13. If you saw my earlier post, I had lasik done 13 years ago; I also have astigmatism. Today, at age 72, my eyesight is still very good, both distance and close-up, although I have noticed some deterioration with my close-up vision with very small print, especially if the light is not good. I think 13 years and counting would be considered more than temporary. Getting lasik was one of the best things I have done, healthwise, and I would recommend it. Before having it done, I was struggling with trying to adapt to bifocals, which I hated. I've loved being glasses-free for 13 years. Well worth the money, I think--maybe do some more shopping around.
  14. Thirteen years ago my spouse and I had lasik done at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya with Dr. Somchai. I was 59. I had explored doing lasik in the US but was told I would still need glasses--either for distance or for reading. Since the whole point was to ditch glasses, I did not have it done in the US. I explained my US experience to Dr. Somchai and he told me he thought he could do my eyes with one stronger for distance and the other stronger for close vision. Had the surgery done--we both did fine. After several days, I was finding that my near vision was not as good as I thought it would be for reading. Included in the surgery were follow-up appointments for several weeks. At one of the first follow-ups I mentioned that my close vision wasn't too good. The doctor said this was normal and please try not to use reading glasses to read. Instead, wait and your close vision will improve. I didn't say anything but I was thinking, 'yeah, right--when does anything get better.' But, I did what he said and, lo and behold, my close vision did improve until it was quite good. And, my distance vision was good, too. No glasses needed for either. Yaa! Thirteen years later and my distance vision is still great. My close vision has gotten a little worse and I have trouble with very small print--especially if the light isn't too good. My spouse's distance vision has gotten worse and he has been wearing glasses when he drives at night. We went back to Dr. Somchai a week or so ago for eye check-ups and he recommended doing SuperSight for both of us, which involves an overnight hospital stay. We are still debating whether to have it. Curious if anybody has had it done and any pros and cons from it. Thanks!
  15. Wish Nissan would bring in the X-Trail. They really need an SUV slotted between the Kicks and the Terra.
  16. Nonsense. Pattaya is now a big city that has a number of different areas, but all are part of Pattaya. The central area is just one part. My spouse and I live on the Darkside but from our house we can hop on the Motorway and be on Sukhumvit by Index, Home Pro, etc. in about 10 minutes, probably about as fast or faster as someone living in south Pattaya.
  17. Exactly, which makes Greater Pattaya such a good place to live. But, perhaps not readily apparent with a short, limited visit.
  18. Actually, I find it's the other way around--Pattaya is a better place to live year-round than to visit as a tourist, although it does have a lot to offer for tourists, with more on the way. All the things that make it a great place to live year-round, however, you don't discover in a short visit--which is probably good, as Pattaya is growing fast enough already.
  19. Spouse and I built our first house last year in Pattaya. This week we just started our second house. Good luck with your project!
