Looking to buy a new SUV - any recommendations?
newnative replied to fezza's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I don't think that's quite true when you say 'nobody has range anxiety any more'. My spouse and I certainly still do. That is why we are going with a PHEV rather than an all-electric car as our next car. We feel we are not ready for all-electric just yet. PHEV should suit us. We can drive around town on just the electric, without using gas at all, and recharge at night. When we take trips, we don't have to worry about running out of battery or not being able to find a charging station. If for some reason we can't recharge, we have the gas backup. -
From what I can tell if I searched right: South Korea, Honduras, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, Iceland, Malaysia, Panama, Virgin Islands, Nicaragua, Bosnia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Philippines, Congo, and others. Dozens of countries, such as Finland, Brazil, France, Russia, Austria, and Portugal, use popular vote but a candidate must win at least 50% of the vote in the first round. If not, a second round is needed, with usually the top two vote-getters facing off.

Looking to buy a new SUV - any recommendations?

Mazda CX-8 might fit your needs--we sat in one and were impressed by how nice it was inside. Spouse and I just booked a new BYD Sealion 6 SUV, a plug-in hybrid, which we were looking for. Beautiful car, comfortable, and very nicely-equipped for a very reasonable price, less than 1MB. But, Chinese and maybe a bit small for your needs. We wanted to buy another CR-V but were underwhelmed by it's supposedly 'new' but, in our opinion, very dated styling--should have been the 2020 model, not 2024. And, no PHEV. Plus, very pricey for the top model. Good luck with your search. -
Don't I wish 'the American voters will decide'. The 'American voters' decided for Clinton in 2016, to the tune of 2.8 million more votes, not 'very tight' at all. A blowout. The EC, unfortunately for the country, 'decided' that election and we ended up with the worst presidency in US history. Almost happened again in 2020, when the blowout was 7 million votes more in favor of Biden. Again, not 'very tight' at all with the actual voters. If you want an actual 'tight' race, try Bush-Gore, with a less than 600,000 vote difference, in favor of Gore. Or Kennedy-Nixon, with less than 113,000 votes in favor of Kennedy.

Somebody correct that headline. Delays are not looming. There have been delays from the get-go. -

'illustrious footsteps'--my cue to stop reading. -
Not always. Gore almost won in 2000 with 48.4% of the vote vs. Bush's 47.9%. Had he carried Florida, with some of the after-election analyses of the Florida vote tally showing that he actually did, he would have won the EC and the election.

As others have noted, it's RFK. Stopped reading when I got to 'JFK'. If you're too befuddled to get the candidate's names correct . . .

I've never read a bad one, either. Thanks for the Chris Carter recommendation.

How do you survive a visit from the dreaded Thai family?
newnative replied to Chris Daley's topic in General Topics
I have wonderful Thai in-laws and I welcome their visits. Spouse and I are just about finished with our new house, which will have more room for when family visits.
