2/3 of COVID-19 Fatalities in Thailand Were Unvaccinated
DavisH replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
The data is missing for a large % of the sample (about 25%). Their vaccination status is unknown. It makes me think those people have no family (homeless?) or little contact with their family. Or the data was not recorded for some reason. -

Many people below 60 are also getting AZ. This study does not state the ratio. Eithwr way, we know 1 shot does not give good protection, and good protection is only after at least 2 weeks after the second shot. But it is interesting that sinovac is not mentioned at all. Probably just bad reporting, that we have all become used to. -
What ingredients in the vaccine concern you re: long term effects? You do realise that the body destroys all components of the vaccine within 2 weeks. Juat take your chances with natural immunity then. Indeed, natutal immunity is the way to go if you want to risk it with infection. You will get a broader level of immunity to the virus. Vaccines only attach the spike protein, while natural immunity attacks all other proteins of the virus. However, it's looking like the best approach is to get full vaccination (this reduces the chance of death / hospitalisation, and then natural infection following that (as opposed to a booster shot).

Do you object to being asked if you’ve been vaccinated?
DavisH replied to Chomper Higgot's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
The vaxxed shed for a shorter time though. Take your chances with covid. Up to you. Because you will eventually be infected. I can assure you of that. -

May not be a huge issue in thailand. My vaccination certificate has a qr code. Scan it and its linked to the MoPH site and shows my vaccination record - type of vaccine, lot number and date. Not sure it will ever be used here for entry to establishments, though, but who knows. -
What is this waiver nonsense all about?!
DavisH replied to FrankThePlumber's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
...and there are no or very few backpackers now. The OP should: 1) Find work with a language school (probably easier to get than a University). Universities usually want a Master's as a minimum, but could ge lucky), Hopefully they will give the Non-B, or 2) Scrounge up 400K for an extension based on marriage. (or 40K / month salary). , or 3) Enrol in an online course and hope they give another extension based on "progress to being qualified". Try the St Robert's course. I don't know much about course that myself. -
Thailand reports 20,571 new COVID-19 cases and 23,159 recoveries

No. These kits rarely give a false negative test if used in the correct way. False positives are also rare. The problem will be non-medical personnel using them - not swabbing deeply enough in the right location. 7000 positives is a lot, If those numbers are added to the 20K today, the total number shows there is still a linear increase in cases. I expect that trend to continue for some time. -
Most medical workers were vaccinated early, so they were given to shots of sinovac. Many of them have since been given a booster (az or pfizer). More recently, they have been given sinovac that will/is being followed by az. sin+az gives similar antibody titers to az+az. This is a good thing, actually, as that will allow the doses to az to go much further. Most Thais don't travel overseas so they don't care that they are mixing vaccines.

I scanned that QR code with my phone and it gives the VIN number...no other information.

Tinted windows, I know nothing, please help
DavisH replied to Keith5588's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I saw a compant advertising photochromic tint on facebook. I didn't pursue info on it. Looks good though. I would keep the front windscreen and front passenger windows to 60% light transmission. Some forget the front passenger windows, but we use them a lot when changing lanes - almost hit a bike once as the front was too dark for night driving. -

DavisH replied to Keith5588's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Some tint companies measure the tint % differently - either %blocking or %transmission of light. You can ask to see what they have available as they will have a catalogue. You can have the rear passenger windows and rear window darker, and the front windows and windscreen lighter. Definitely be careful with the windcreeen no more than 30-40% blocking light should be ok. If you rarely drive at night it should not be a problem to have 40% on the windscreen. The city turbo is good car by all accounts, so I think you will enjoy it. -
Teaching methods for Thai and English Classes
DavisH replied to EVENKEEL's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
This sounds liek a bilingual program rather than an EP. I say that because they are learning maths in 2 languages. EP's normally teach most subjects in english only (aside from Thai social. Thai language and Buddhism). But yes, they should be learning the same topic more or less at the same time. When i worked in a bilingual school, the Thai teacher would write the key words I used in Thai on the side board. Occasionally, she had to use a dictionary to find a word I used. I don't think the school were concerned if we taught exactly the same or not. Their argument at the time is that they got most of the content in the Thai class - my job was to do more conceptual development / experiments and activities. I still taught basic concepts though. But in my current EP, they learn their main subjects in english - and do so from kg1. So by grade 1 they already have basic language skills and can communicate quite well in english. -
N is the Model Year (not manufacturing year) N=2022 is correct, but your car is made in 2021 (manufacturing year). So the VIN does not give the manufacturing date. Very useful site here and explains all: https://www.meadowvalehonda.ca/en/news/view/how-to-read-your-vin-number/63510

As many as 3,000 Thai minors catching COVID-19 every day
DavisH replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It will depend on the school - my school, last year, was very strict, even though we had no cases for months. That involved temperature checks at the gate, then sanitiser. All students must wear a mask at all times and wear it properly (except for lunch). Tables at lunch had barriers put up to separate students. All students desks were separated by at least a meter and students were not to go to other desks or borrow equipment. Regular sanitisation of hands during the day also. Students were also meant to keep a distance from each other (partially successful). There was basically no close mixing of students during the day. No group work/projects, no sports day, no xmas activities. I guess we will be using the same protocols upon return, whenever that is. -

Your school is open now? Where? -
They have your vaxx record at the MoPH. They may or may not allow it, depending on their current policy.

COVID-19: Thailand reports 21,157 new coronavirus cases
DavisH replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Like Myanmar, their high death rate relative to cases suggests that many cases are going undetected, to a higher degree that is happening in LoS. There is virually no testing in Myanmar (15K tests a day if you are lucky).
