Tourism Ministry Anticipates Return of Chinese Tourists
DavisH replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It's more to do with blanket lockdowns resulting in a lack of any kind of natural immunity. Repeated exposure to previous variants (cross immunity), helps with b- and t-cell immunity against current variants. Most Chinese have none of that. They should be thankful they are getting hit with omicron and not delta. -

At this time there are no restrictions to the UK (up to date as of yesterday). There are restrictions to travel to the US though.

50% is an insane percentage. The pandemic should be over in 3 months in China, as nearly all people will have been infected. Expect total deaths to be in the millions. I see no reason to expect a different percentage for newly arrived Chinese in Thailand.

That photo looks like a shrew. I guess Thais call them "squirrels", but they are different. There are also squirrels here You can check out this site. https://www.thainationalparks.com/list-of-mammals-of-thailand

Just go to Bquik, cockpit, or some other similar outlet. Avoid the dealer at all costs. There are many reputable brands out there so I dont think you need genuine MB items.

English language ability and the Thai professional class
DavisH replied to BananaBandit's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Medical students often use english books in Thailand. I know of my my past students studied to be a pharmacist and used lots of pharmacy books in english. Now working in a private hospital here. So I suspect that their english comprehension is much more advanced than speaking/listening for the most part. Having said that, I've had no problems talking with any doctor or dentist in Bangkok and surrounds. -
More than 5M Chinese Visitors expected in Thailand next year

Not per head they are not... -
Did the manufacturer consider the tropical climate and heat in Thailand? I've had my michelins on my crv for close to 4 years and 50K kms. They have surface fine cracks on the outer edge of each tire. They may be good for another 10-20K kms, probably no more. But 10 years? I don't think they'd last that long as the rubber hardens over time and dry grip reduces. I'd rather follow my observations of the tire quality and performance (braking, noise), rather than what is stated on the box. I've also replaced some tires as 40K kms when it was obvious they were becoming noisy and hard.

US tesla reliability is poor. Hopefully Chinese made ones are better. Toyota destroys tesla for reliability.

A recent article in the Thai press suggested that the arrival of Tesla will significantly reduce the second hand prices of European cars here. They may be some good deals to be had for them next year.
-
The top tesla model y is some 600K baht more than the equivalent in China. I'd also hope prices will decrease, but that is likely to be across the board for all EV's.

Scratch on wing - insurance or out of pocket
DavisH replied to recom273's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
We've repaired various small self-inflicted dents on cars here. We have first class insurance. The payment was about 1000 baht / damage. it really didn't affect our following yearly insurance payments. Also, unless it's major damage, I'd in future avoid resprays. Sometimes you will see the paint does not perfectly match (our blue car was hard to match correctly - from 2 shops). It's better to pull small dents out if possible and touch up stone chips. -
They would have had lifetime licences at their age (my wife has one and she is 60). So there are no legal checks at all for older person's driving comptence here. They can drive until something like this happens or their family stops them from driving out of concern for their safety. Nothing to do with corruption.
