There speaks a man with a full belly every day, flunkies to look after his every whim and has never done a shopping trip with only 30 baht in his pocket in his life. His failure to have even the slightest understanding and care for the common person will be remembered at the ballot box, if there is ever another one.

Lets hope that there is a truly free and fair election ASAP and the truth on his leadership will be exposed. He doesn't have many supporters in the ordinary Thai community from what I'm hearing. The 5,000 Baht fiasco and lack of real assistance to Thais is a major issue.

Right now I am thinking more of AIS for us because of they have the package with the Playbox. 3BB said we have to buy a TV-box (android) by our self. And since I am not in Thailand most of the time I believe it is more easy for my wife to sort out potential problems with AIS

if it is their TV-box and not a box they don't have any knowledge about.

So at this moment we are considering AIS. And after your post even more.

Also very good that they (AIS) upgrade from time to time by them self. With True we had to threat them that we will cancel their service. That happen several times.

I was thinking about moving to 3BB in my condo because they apparently, somehow offer fibre to the room. Because thay don't offer TV by box (same or similar to Playbox) I decided to stay as I am with AIS and Playbox - however they did cull some channels recently. Because AIS, apparently cannot offer fibre to my room they discounted the total price by 50% with a single call - and they have honoured it every month since last year. I'm hoping to negotiate further price reduction as VDSL become outdated by faster fibre speeds. I used to use True Satellite until 2017 and their pricing and service was outrageous.

I use MS Office Outlook for my email. 3BB has a smtp outgoing mail server. AIS fiber does not, which is why for less than the TV cable box, I am still subscribed to two Fiber services. Strange one, AIS.  If you connect to the internet using your AIS supported mobile phone as a hot spot, they have a smtp server, but it doesn't work with their fiber service. You don't sound like a computer email "Outlook" guy so I don't think this will matter to you.

The provider of your email address will always have an outgoing SMTP server that you can use securely from any device, any connection, anywhere without issue. Same whether it's a phone, tablet, PC or Mac. I use Outlook 365 (was previously called MS Office Outlook) on my PC for all email. Whether it's Outlook, Google, Yahoo, Hotmail or your own personal domain email address, you can just use the correct IMAP/POP/SMTP server associated with the email address. It's best to avoid ISP SMTP servers as they are often abused and on blacklists meaning that outgoing message could be blocked or considered spam. I manage my own web and email server so if you have any questions on your setup then just send me a PM.

Thank you very much for the information, Eddie. Where are you located in Bangkok? I have noticed that Skype uses more bandwith. When Skype start to have "bad connection" then Line still work well. But I think I do not get the same quality video and sound as Skype. So because of that I prefer Skype. I hve never try Whatsapp or other app for videocall. Maybe worth a try.

My condo is near BTS Sanampao and AIS installed fibre to the cabinet in the basement and then copper lines to the condo. AIS started this service in 2016 and I joined them then. My service is the VDSL (not fibre to the property). As Bruce Aussie Chiang Mai said it could be a router connection/problem. In my experience, the routers supplied by the ISPs are usually totally <deleted>. I always substitute a top spec modem router such at ASUS DSL-AC68U (RT-AC68U if routerr only) or Netgear Nighthawk or TP-Link (cheaper) which usually has more features, available settings and power/range.

  5. AIS in my Bangkok condo at 80/30 mbps never misses a beat with streaming Amazon, YouTube etc. I Skype call a lot to landlines and mobiles (have unlimited world package) as well as corporate VOIP app (RingCentral), also WhatsApp call and video. Never a problem. Also use AIS in a 4G router at 10/10 mbps when in Hua Hin and Buriram and that is always good too with all the above. I have friends on 3BB full fibre 300/100 in Hua Hin and Phetchaburi and they never have problems. No experience with True though.

I did the same calculation on larger amounts (GBP 5,000) and TW came out on top............. they came out on top on every amount up to their transfer limit of 2m Baht because the exchange rate difference was ALWAYS so favourable so as to more than cover the increased transfer charge.

I sit corrected. Clearly things have changed and Transferwise does indeed now offer a better rate and total payment despite the high fees. Their exchange rate appears much better.

Transferwise far better than bank to bank transfer... I used to send sterling but I was losing 1-2 baht in the exchange rate in the Thai bank plus it took 2 days... Transferwise don't rip you off with the exchange rate and money in the account within the hour if sent early in the day....

I use Transferwise for smaller transfers of less than 2,000 GBP. For large amounts, Transferwise fees escalate and my UK Bank (Lloyds) to my KBank offers better value. I made a transfer of about 3,000,000 THB (in GBP) to Kbank a few years ago and the only fee was 9.50 GBP from Lloyds. Kbank gave their telex buying rate on exchange.

  8. I would suggest to the condo CJP that a pool usage rota system would work but they would never contemplate such an idea. Out of 96 rooms on 8 floors only about 5 rooms ever use our pool. As it's on the top floor behind a locked door, residents could safely book a sole use period of 30-60 minutes and still every owner who normally uses the pool would get a safe private use period. I'm not even going to bother to ask as I know their answer already! I will add also that in the last week only 50% of residents are in residence anyhow - judging by the number of uncollected electric bills sticking out of their mailboxes.

  9. I've been using laptops as my main pc for the last 20 years. Docking station or connections to monitor and keyboard etc when at home/office. My experience is that most batteries will only really be good for 18 months to 2 years at most. They start to lose capacity from 1yr onwards so when away from ac power you will have limited battery time. I've used Dell, Acer, Sony and Lenovo. I would say if the laptop still runs fine for the applications you use then a new battery is way to go. Try and buy a genuine oem replacement rather than a generic copy. My experience is that generic copy batteries last even less time before they need replacing. You may need to replace the charger and charging port too from the sound of your problems.

Where I live we are on main's supply if you can call it that and like many people here in Thailand we also suffer from low, and sometimes non-existent, water pressure.  This is basically because the water company use mainly plastic supply pipes to get the water to the house and they cannot put to much pressure behind the water for fear of pipe joints bursting.

I have 2 x 1,000 litre tanks each with an outlet pump.  One tank is used for the house the other for our smallish fruit garden mainly during the hot season.  The joy is that with mains supply water pressure low during the day, when most people and local factories want water, the tanks fill up at nigh when demand is low.

I have attached a few photos of the garden setup.

Photo #1 shows the inlet pipe, with shut-off valve just before the pipe enters the tank near the top.  The screw removable lid on top of the tank is also shown..

Photo #2 was taken above the tank with the lid removed to show the inlet ball valve which is just like the ball valve in the loo).

    20200510_152451_iv.thumb.jpg.0567b67c2b9360aec06489b61d1a9cae.jpg

Photo #3 shows the bottom of the tank and the outlet pipe feeding the pump - again there is a shut-off valve between tank outlet and the pump inlet.

    20200510_152623_iv.jpg.81f80f7a48e2c31eab5097a003f49376.jpg

FYI... there is a second outlet hole at the bottom of the tank.  This is for draining the tank if necessary and is also fitted with a shut-off valve.

A really simple DIY job.  In my case the ball valve was included with the tank, but they are available from Homepro if that is were you will purchase your setup.

    Good luck.

This post is the way to go and will work well for you NCC.

Don't worry about cleaning with or without filters as any sediment will settle to bottom of the tank below the outlet.

Be sure to buy a "constant pressure" pump as it will give smooth flow and stop the surging of some pumps.

  11. Thai Airways has always given me better service than the alternatives (LHR/BKK). As a business there are so many issues causing losses. In my opinion it's more about costs and bad management than poor service or high fares. As a comparison, a flexible economy ticket with Thai for LHR-BKK-LHR in November/December was about £850 vs £1200 for Emirates. These are the reasons I choose Thai 3-5 roundtrips per year. 7 roundtrips in economy flex every 2 years gets a ROP gold card which triggers free upgrades, lounge access and much more. Thai works for me as a traveller but as an business its a dead duck.

Apart from what you point out....

I have spent past couple of days looking at real estate for sale Bangkok.

Two days of frustration. Many sites almost impossible to obtain exact location of places for sale. Just vague random shiet.

Just now I used search of an AU realestate.c##.au

What a dream. Exact addresses. Past sales. You name it.

Did Thailand invent something like..." If it's simple can we make it difficult"

Perhaps I'm looking wrong sites, however checked MANY.

    Happy home hunting.

You are not alone in frustration. Reality is that there really isn't a mature resale market in Thailand. Much property and land remains always within the family. The various sites here often are poorly designed, limited description, often misleading, incomplete or outdated info. Try rightmove, zoopla or primelocation in the UK to see how it should be done.

  13. I walk past the market each morning going to and from the park. Last few days there's been activity painting distancing lines and signage at the entrances for screening on entry. I wouldn't expect the market to be busy. Few or no tourists remaining and many, many stall holders not likely to reopen. I'll take a walk through tomorrow morning.

He is said to have driven negligently causing injury and damage. The warrant was issued by the Hua Hin court on January 28th 2020.

Sutthipong told Naew Na this was all part of immigration chief  Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang's policy to rid Thailand of law breaking foreigners.

They urged the public to call 1178 to report illegal activity.

Why did it take so long to track him down? Also, no details of the actual alleged incident. Suspect "hit and run" for which a payment at the time would probably have avoided his arrest.

How about a call number (or FB/Line account) for foreigners to report all the illegal activity of Thais? In the name of satefy of course - sounds fair no?

  15. Paying PEA bill for our Buriram house on the KPlus app was not working yesterday but just tried and went through fine so looks like they have sorted it out now. Paying the MEA bill for my bangkok condo bill is not working though ????

They need to get in some expert westerners who know how to run an airline. Richard Branson is not busy right now !!

Branson didn't get rich by running sustained profitable businesses - Virgin has more losses than profits in last 10 years. He made his money by building businesses and then flogging off 49% to others pocketing the money and avoiding taxes (Singapore bought 49% and then offloaded it to Delta). Fair play and a good strategy. He is customer service minded though and looks to hire staff who can think on their feet and make decisions to satisfy customers. Might be an issue with Thai way of thinking as if it's not in the instruction book then "mai dai". Branson will also quit when he knows there's no future with a business and after all the fanfare of opening, will quietly close or flog off an ailing enterprise. Virgin just anounced that they will quit operations out of Gatwick and slash employees by 30%.

  17. Went to Chatuchak Park at 06.30 on Sunday morning for walking. Plenty of order and distancing. In the afternoon went to Big C at Saphan Kwai, busiest ever seen it and no distancing. Alcohol aisles were packed with people at 5.30pm.

Today, Monday 4th May needed to change some cash so went from Sanampao to Siam on the BTS. Very quiet at 3pm on the train.

Changed money at Superich (was only customer). After that went into Paragon which was only open in the food areas and busy. No restaurant seating at all. No non food (except banks and pharmacies) were open.
