  1. Here we go again; just received email from THAI Airways cancelling my 4th September flight from BKK-LHR. I called to rebook and the agent informed me that ALL international flights with THAI Airways are cancelled until 1st October - EXCEPT for special the repatriation flights. She was helpful and said she could get me on a waitlist for any of the three August repatriation flights from BKK to LHR but I just decided to go for 1st October as I'm not in a hurry to travel.

Of course, what this means, and we all probably guessed, is that there will be no tourist arrivals into Thailand until at least October. Probably later as many on TVF already beleive. In fact, the agent at THAI was quite chatty and I told her I didn't want to get stuck outside Thailand then she mentioned that arrivals may not even be back to normal until 2021. OMG! Will there be an option for retirement visa holders to even return before tourists are allowed back in?

  3. I was in Koh Lanta on 21st and 22nd June this year. The place was DEAD. Some resorts open but very few (I stayed at Blue Andaman resort - bungalows, pool and right on the beach). Some restaurants open but very few. It was miserable and sad to see the situation. The only highlight was that The Irish Embassy Pub was open (and busiest place). Great food, drink and a warm welcome from Jamie and his staff. I expect that more places are now open. Can you post a trip report of your experiences here please?

I forgot the motor show was still on

Quigley's closed end of last year, pity but it just didn't get enough custom.

The area around where you're staying near to the University is busier than town. We were in the Acoustic Pub on Sunday and it was standing room only. Mix of the long weekend and last round of the EPL meant a busy night. Social distancing just went out the window.

GF works at Alive restaurant and it's been really busy there recently. Because she finishes late (after 11pm) haven't been partying out.

  5. I've had same DTAC number since 2004. I agree their covergare is spotty on fringes or extreme rural areas is weak or non-existent. A second SIM from AIS solves this problem when needed. It would be helpful to see graphs from the other main operators (AIS & True) over the same period as comparison. One thing for sure is that phone use has not declined so other than blip of covid, where are all the users?

Obviously I know I can get a re-entry permit now.  That was not really my question.  My question really has to do with getting back into Thailand. So again, my real question is...has there been any official discussion when a long stay visa holder may be able to exit, and then re-enter?  The different upcoming phases are being discussed by government officials daily but reporting of those discussions is mostly in Thai...so if anyone has heard news about this, I'd appreciate knowing.

Once holders of the type of Visa that you hold are permitted to return you will be allowed in (assuming Covid tests, Quarantine, Insurance etc). The worry is that your Visa/Extension of stay expires whilst you are outside of Thailand and not being able to re-enter before that date. Then you will have to start Visa process from beginning again. Nobody knows when borders will re-open, under what rules and regulations. Plan for at least end on January 2021 and be pleased/surprised if earlier. Could also be later than that.

Asian's don't throw away family like Americans/Brits do.  The family unit stays close.  You care for kids, your neighbors kids because the Dad's in prison, the girlfriend's cousin's underage pregnancy kids, the drug addict brother and a bunch of old people.

It's actually a disgusting thing to even mention throwing out the 18-year-old.

Most Thai houses I've seen have 6 generations living in them.  From the old people to newborn kids from a 14 year old.

6 generations would span at least 90 year years surely at the very, very extreme. My ex's family was 4 generations in the house but "most Thai houses I've seen have 6 generations" is certainly unlikely these days. Many female family and friends I know are now leaving starting family until after college, marriage and then have their tubes tied after just 2 kids! No more 10 sibling families.

I agree with this. Honestly he should leave his gf and get a vietnamese noble girl. None of this nonsense

Not sure about "Vietnamese Noble Girl" but a former Thai GF of mine for 3 years was 50% Vietnamese (father refugee), 25% Chinese and 25% Thai (mother half Thai/Half Chinese). Exotic for sure. Problem was that I was paying for her and her 2 sons (9/11yrs) with schooling was making me broke. When she asked for a raise in "allowance" to 50,000 Thai Baht/Month that was the end.

Without knowing your story, I can't know how you are relating irony to it.

In my case however, im serious.

I chose to leave Thailand because of the Covid.

But as it was, things weren't going great before then.

I could see myself getting groomed as the lone provider, for a lady and her young son, which means it will most likely be a long and endless money pit.

Thais dont really care about you going through all your life savings, as long as its spent on them.

Of course, they know very well that when your money runs out, you will be forced to go home and you will then be "out of their hair"

If you are older, financially set up,

and have future cash streams incoming, then it might not be a big issue.

Me, i am 45, and retirement by Australian rules is a LONG way off.

Thinking about a good 20+ years of expenses..and then how much more $ to see me out??

Its a no-brainer that sinking funds into houses i can't own,

Thai womens offspring, which i shouldn't really be responsible for....

And in a country where you are forced to jump through hoops EVERY year, EVEN when your married!!!.....

well that's suddenly starting to sound real dumb since ive actually got out of the place.

So yes, Covid might have saved me.

Lucky escape and valuable lesson. Come back when you can and enjoy the wisdom of your past. If one has the money and doesn't mind being controlled or manipulated by women then fine. MGTOW is the future IMO.

  10. I've been in Hat Yai since Friday. Staying at a private residence in Kho Hong area. Monday went to Central Festival which was averagely busy. Today I went for early dinner downtown and at 4pm the city was very quiet. So many hotels and businesses closed. It really is not busy here. I wanted to go to Quigleys Irish pub for food and a beer but it was shut down and for rent/sale. Few other bars open until 5-6pm. Sat at Lion Pub (recommended although 95 Baht for small Singha is pricey) with nice staff. The centre of town is definitely quieter than expected. The suburbs seem busier.

Your overly sensitive and should go somewhere you are appreciated. It's simple that they don't want you. Why are you so offended? There sign was in good English and the waitresses were very polite. Pushing people against their will and asking for the manager is very rude IMO.

So when Thailand say they don't want you here anymore your response will be?

Cry me a river, are you jealous because you don't have a nation of your own?  so jealous that the Thais do have a nation that you wish to brand every little action in Thailand as racist. your pathetic, if it worries you so much go back to the multicultural sh*t hole you were born in.

So when Thailand say they don't want you here anymore your response will be?
