It does sound as if they are trying to get out of the aircraft owning scene, and concentrate on leasing.

However - it is not exactly a sellers market at the moment, or for the foreseeable future. Their track record on selling surplus aircraft (A340s) is not exactly good.

Maybe they'll just park them up and let them rot like the old A340s that they wouldn't sell for less than what they paid. THAI will either have to accept the market price (or best offer), keep the planes in service or scrap them.

..and a very significantly increased cost since I would have thought it unlikely that individual flights could be more than half-full max so as to comply with social distancing requirements which don't look like going away any time soon.

My uncle flew back from BKK to the UK last week on Qatar Airways. He said there were 50 people on 1st flight to Doha and 70 people on 2nd flight from Doha to Manchester. Plenty of social distance and 3 seats per passenger too. He paid 44,000 THB one-way economy. The day after arriving he received a "discount" voucher for 100 GBP off next booking. Maybe these prices will be the new normal?

If you look on the condenser unit in the room it should have a sticker on it showing the specs and power consumption. I bought this new 20,500 BTU Inverter unit 6 months ago and it's much better cooling, quieter and lower power consumption than the old one. I tend to keep it on 24/25c during the day and also use a floor fan.

Power consumption is stated as 1740W so 1.74KW. At current electricity rates of roughly 4 Baht per KW/HR it works out at about 7 Baht per hour in use.

  4. THAI cancelled my 28th April flight from BKK-LHR. Rebooked for 2nd June and that got cancelled by them last week too. Now rebooked for earliest scheduled flight which is 1st July. All other THAI european flights are cancelled until July too. I won't be surprised if they dont start flying again until October (the THAI agent mentioned something about 27th October for getting back to "normal").

I think Flightradar24 also publishes aircrafts' registration right? With that, just head over to the planespotters website and key in the registration letters/numbers. If data of the aircraft has been entered into planespotters' database, details of the aircraft will be in the search results including year of make, model, previous and current owner/s. That should give you a pretty good idea who could be on board that flight.

Yes but many (if not most) private aviation jets are charters or fractional ownership. Hard to prove the real owner and impossible to know the passenger manifest.

I once saw a big private jet parked in Nakhon Si Thammarat airport in 2015 (my local airport back then). Very unusual to see anything other than Thai commercial airliners there. I searched online for the registration and it turned out to be registered to a Spanish aviation company - no clue to who the user was.

I was looking at flightradar24 a week or so back during the flight ban and noticed a flight heading south as it flew over Bangkok.

This Learjet 25 took off from the city of Lucknow in India and landed at U-Tapao airport.

Kind of strange during times like this. I wonder who the special people were on this flight?

I also wonder if these special people were subject to the quarantine period.

I've noticed quite a few private aviation jets on FR24 taking off/landing at Thai airports recently too. Thought same as you. Maybe military top brass?

What are they not telling us about this virus <deleted>?

Can understand the month ban to get hospitals ready for more cases.

But now an entire another month............when there are 9 cases found in Thailand........Hospitals much better prepared...........

Billions of baht lost from potential tourism

    IT does not add up

They are not telling the full story... Given that THAI Airways have already cancelled most international flights until 1st JULY, don't be surprised if there's another month of international passenger flight arrivals being banned.

  8. I'll be returning to Bangkok in a few days and my condo pool and gym is still closed. Does anyone know good places or parks open for walking in the Phaya Thai, Ari or Morchit areas? I was think of trying Chatchak Park as it's only 25 minutes walk there for me. Anyone know if it's open or can you recommend anywhere else away from traffic?

Revising Visa requirements... Scrapping the proposed Thai Insurance policy...and OH bring your Baht into a realistic exchange rate...then such optimism may be well founded.

3 month visa exempt entry, 50 Baht to the GBP, 40 Baht to USD/EUR and 30 Baht to AUD would be a good start at encouraging more visitors. If there was a 5 minute test to determine passengers are Covid-19 free at flight check-in then no need for certificates or special (unobtainable) insurance. Just a dream?

Or more specifically, what rules the UN or WHO imposes on foreign countries. It is highly unlikely that countries will be granted full autonomy to do what they like. Since at least the end of WW2, nation states are bound to certain conventions and rules. Full sovereignty doesn't exist anymore.

OK but there's nothing stopping each country applying more restrictve requirements as they please. Some governments are bent on control of their populations more than others.

Depends partly on future cost of flights. Will it go up as airlines need to recover their losses, or will it go down as not as many people will be able to afford to fly?

Airlines will not be able to set fares based on past losses. Fares can only be set on currently market forces such as costs, demand and supply (either by themselves or competitors). There is talk of reducing load factors to a maximum of 66% by leaving middle seats empty. Airlines are unlikey to widen losses further by flying unprofitable routes. Fuel cost is currently very low so that may help.

I was wrong, never foresaw the end of the "Petrodollar" historical happening!

Sure but the prices were skewed depending on oil type (WTI at -37USD vs Brent at +18USD) and delivery date (May vs June Vs July). Still very cheap rates though. Long may the low pump prices last although that denotes the precarious state of the global economy.

  13. Sympathy for the wife and child if they're going hungry but no sympathy for greedy taxi drivers in Phuket. He should have saved for the "rainy day" that is now. Sell the vehicles to highest bidder and introduce Grab or insist on Meter Taxis in Phuket. No more 200 Baht minimum fare. Time to open the market up there and stop ripping of locals and visitors.

Even if your Thai ISP can provide 200mpbs, you won't get that from any international connection - there's not anywhere near enough bandwidth into Thailand itself from the rest of the world... so it's not much use, unless you need 200+ for your local Thai website needs?

Note that speedtest above is to a LOCAL server... change it to somewhere International and then decide whether it's worth paying extra for... 75-100 is fine.

    https://www.unescap.org/sites/default/files/1 Broadband-Infrastructure-in-the-ASEAN-9-Region.pdf

    International bandwidth per capita :-

    Thailand 6 Kbps (yes, that's K bps )

    Singapore 258 Kbps

Malaysia 15 Kbps, and the rest all below Thailand.. so it could be a lot worse. ????

I knew that the interconnection bandwith from Thailand was not great but never knew it was that low. I would estimate that most Thais are only consuming local contents though. What about Facebook, Youtube, Netflix etc. do they run mirror servers or cach servers locally in Thailand? Anyone know?

    Thanks for that.

T.B.H. . Im not sure what "rules" affect the class of ticket...I bought the one where you can have 75% mileage miles...if you know what I mean!  I will check it out later....just got back from work.

Id love to think I could get out there for this September...doubt it very much though!  If possible I would rather a refund as opposed to a voucher...a voucher wouldnt be the end of the world though...as Im planning (god knows when!! lol!) to go twice a year for 3 month stretches....so will have to wait and see.

I just remembered"! I also used some miles (from R.O.P. ) to go towards the flight......Saying thta...with all thats gone on WHEN!! I do eventually get there next time...I may well think <deleted> it and treat myself to go business class........just the once!

    Again, thanks for the reply.

Do a new booking search on Thai website and it will show you the options and fare classes with rules about changes and refunds. Look at your confirmed booking and it will have something like "K" Class written somewhere in fare basis or similar. Always best to do a date change rather than refund if you have future travel in mind. IF Thai cancel on you then you are due a full refund of any cash you paid and any miles used will be re-credited to your ROP account. Using miles to upgrade is less easy than before since they changed the redemption rates in October 2019. I fly Thai R/T 3-5 times per year LHR/BKK and find the experience with them far better than EVA or BA (or QR or EY for indirect).
