  1. .

Two years ago, everybody said that Maya was limited to 8 floors.

Here is my current view - I am on the 14th floor!

I wish you good luck, but don't count on it...

ps - I triangulated the big units on their roof - less than 35 meters away from my window (about 100 feet!!!)

    .

Wow, you can see the aircon units in great detail, I'll just bet once they start them up you will be able to hear them very well too!

Do you think it will add value to your unit? cheesy.gif

  2. "hiding behind your goofy pet name"? As opposed to the revealing 'SDH'? You're joking, right? What are you, 6 years old? BTW, re-read the posts (or have someone read them to you) - I never called the OP lonely.

My name's Scott and I'm not hiding at all, you can find me very easily I've been in CM for 13 years, so when you would like to get together over some drinks and bottles of beer let me know, you can come to one of my all night bars and we can take care of you very well! cheesy.gif

I know, you could read me the posts as we get the drink on, maybe we could help you with another goofy little pet name? or you could take us to some of your own establishments and show us how clever you are, but mostly we could drink, have dave's phone number, we could call him and have a party.... 55555555

    Where are your bars located?

  3. I must admit that today I saw three Chinese tourists walking side by side walking down a fairly main street forcing all the cars going in their direction to go around them. The problem was when a bunch of cars came from the opposite direction they continued on their merry way and seemed oblivious to a bunch of cars stuck behind them.

Just recetly I saw 3-5 farang girls (country of origin unknown) walking abreast and hogging both the sidewalk and road, they were oblivious to the needs of motorists and other pedestrians! Those evil, Farangs!

  4. Rightly or wrongly (rightly IMHO) the Chinese are getting a reputation for being the most badly behaved tourists on earth, no matter where they go. The Ugly American is a thing of the past, say hello to the Ugly Chinese.

Obviously not all Chinese are rude and obnoxious but enough of them are for it to be a problem, especially when there are 1.3 billion of them.

I dread to think of a world overrun by a relatively wealthy people with a false sense of cultural superiority over everyone else but who are still f(*ing peasants as far as I can see.

Sometimes the bad reputation is deserved, I know they will remember them in Egypt for quite some time!

  5. In CM recently, near Thapae Gate, a turn in the sidewalk narrows, enough so that 2 Chinese could not get through with their motorbikes. Rather than back out, they just parked them there, so nobody could walk on the sidewalk. Everyone had to go into the street to get around the corner. They went for lunch.

You see how well the Chinese can adapt to the plight of no parking!

I wonder what restaurant they went to?

I hope they were given a discount for being Chinese! wai2.gif

  8. I am not afraid of the bullies and others. To think I am is to make a big mistake. Put me down, laugh at me... been there. You'd better get your balls out.

LOL you are delusional mate read your posts your all over the place

    Bit of advice

GET SOME HELP FOR YOUR DRINKING PROBLEM

Where can he get help with his drinking problem? From you? Are you cured, maybe you and that New2LOS can teach a course or a step program.....

  9. Give you a chance? For what. Put down the bottles and listen to yourself. Never "claimed to be perfect"? You'll never have to be concerned about people confusing you with someone 'perfect'. Have no fear.

Well.. he does run a pretty perfect restaurant. What do you run?

Being a successful restaurant owner allows him a pass to be insulting? The business that I have started have nothing to do with this thread. I'm not the one spouting off and telling people to "get their balls out". What a jerk. And you're defending this? You must be a very lonely person.

New2LOS, well you clever little devil you, everyone knows who David is, but who are you with your goofy little pet name? What is your contribution to CM, besides hiding behind your goofy pet name? clap2.gif What would make the OP lonely? Loser!

  10. Give you a chance? For what. Put down the bottles and listen to yourself. Never "claimed to be perfect"? You'll never have to be concerned about people confusing you with someone 'perfect'. Have no fear.

Well, that didn't last long. smile.png Two minutes flat. thumbsup.gif

Also, here is the type of 'jerk' that actually isn't a jerk at all, he's a person you disagree with. You could either ignore it, or you could point out why you think he's wrong. But... you just call the post 'stupid' without revealing why, and then start calling him names.

I think the rationale for this topic is sound, but you're not living up to it yourself yet.

OK I'll agree. I've never claimed to be perfect. Just looking for the perfect world. Sure I can be a better person. Give me the chance.

    Dave

What kind of post is this? What bottles, are you on some type of step program?

  11. "As much as we midlanders aren't allowed to get involved in this northern handbag session- his point is fair. Professionals and businesses often give back to the community- especially in societies that are not regularly stricken with natural disasters or profound poverty."

Generally to the less fortunate members of their community. Which the Dukes' does. I've been to several charitable events where the Dukes has donated generously. In fact, I don't think that there's any local business which does as much as The Dukes in this regard. But I don't think it was a charitable impulse that prompted the proposal that the Dukes host a free feast which the proposer can then attend. More like a sense of aggrievement.

Actually I dont want anything free, but the sentiment that if you dont spend 1000 baht to get in (then your considered a whiner) , then you are not wanted there.

To me is very crass, rude and non appreciative of the customers that have made him successful.

You know its funny that every other person i know, wont even go to ButterIsBetter because of your attitude, must be in the 'same league' as Dukes.

I go to both the Dukes and Butter is Better, I like their food thumbsup.gif , the places are clean, this includes the restrooms with soap and towels, staff are polite and respectful.....

  12. Sawadee Khrup, Khun SDH, my apologies for not addressing my first response to you with the nom de plume, "Khun SDH," with an appropriately honorific salutation; an oversight due to a temporary shortage of eternity.

Perhaps it would be helpful to further define "the group" here: on this forum, as is characteristic of all human social interaction in which a gestalt of membership is salient, there are two groups.

There is the "in-group," and, the "out-group."

Every member here believes, and acts, as if they are part of the in-group.

In reality, every member is in the out-group.

Both combination mind-souls in this meat-package know that they are in the in-group. In fact, internally, they comprise a complete in-group which is in the in-group in here, which is also everyone here's there.

I hope that adds some clarification to this thread, and we can move forward to go back to considering what the flaming-arrow "normalization" actually points to, which seems to have moved sideways in the thread, or may be using stealth technology.

I think it's also useful, I believe, to imagine what this forum would be like without moderation, or what might happen if every person that started a thread had the right to remove responses, and even ban posters: my nightmares have already shown that to me, but I have successfully repressed the memories.

I would also like to ask if, in many responses on this thread, there is an implicit assumption of the general form "life should be fair," in the sense of having expectations that our moderators are always going to be perfectly consistent rational ethical computers, rather than just divine souls, and minds, whose reason dances with emotion. And, an assumption that the person who started the thread "owns it," in some personal way.

Have I ever had a disagreement, and felt aggrieved, for a while, by the actions of a moderator here ? Yes, but when I PM'd them, even though they didn't change their minds, I feel like they did, certainly, listen to what I had to say. How often in this life do you get that ? The sting goes away, if you let it.

The Chiang Mai forum is an excellent on-going experience for me, even though it will never be the "best of all possible worlds," which would be being just an orangutan in Kalimantan again, without this annoying involuntary cohabitation in a body that can't arborate, and a bunch of glossolalic magpies for a mind ... ah, back in my own territory, stroking my own long reddish fur, while chewing a twig, my seven (equally content) wives, and children somewhere else until I need them, able to enjoy luscious fruits in solitude, only rarely having to hoot fiercesomely to chase away some horny scoundrel who dares come sniffing around my harem.

As Alice said to the Duchess, "That's nothing compared to what I could say if I chose," but I reach the limits of what I am allowed to reveal of the "Path of Slack" to the uninitiated. I do not experience that as a loss of freedom, or as a basis to presume that this meat on a bag of bones is topped with anything more than excessive vocabulary.

    'Sit usquequaque ludum umbra mortis eclipsis' [1], ~o:37;

[1] 'let the game always eclipse death's shadow' ... an attempt at translation from Ur Orang's (exoteric) "Path of Slack," level one, for the uninitiated, by Orang37; Latin is required to convey the chthonic antiphonal sense of the untranslatable original which is an ersatz copy of the archetypal.

  13. "Normal," and "Deviant," are dynamic subjective frames of reference, modulated by social and cultural factors, and a given group's emergent norms. They also, in common practice, represent value judgments passed by a perceiver for many reasons, including rationalizing one's own vague feelings of irritation, anger, anxiety, fear, terror, etc., the desire to control other individuals who symbolically represent the subconscious "other." Perhaps "deviance" is like the black substrate behind the mirror, that enables the constructed perception of personal identity.

You have the freedom, on this forum, to block messages by anyone whose messages you don't want to read. You have the freedom to report any message which seems to you in violation of forum rules, or what you consider basic human ethics. You have the freedom to post, on the forum, or to moderators, any suggestions you have for the forum's rules, etc.

You have the freedom to go elsewhere if this forum doesn't meet your needs, or troubles you.

The most dangerous human primates I've met in the current lifetime are those who have a strong sense they are "normal," and feel entitled to tell other people what they should do, what is correct, and what they should think. They manufacture, without awareness, both Saints, and Demons.

Not that I think you are dangerous smile.png

But, you are right about one thing: there are many obnoxious posters on this forum, including everyone who posts on this thread, or reads it.

"this life without a zoo with monkeys ... is never fun" "cheewit nee, mai mee suan sat mee ling, sanuk ... mai cooey bin" [1]

    ~o:37;

[1] from the oral (exoteric) tradition of the teachings of Ur Orang for first-level initiates, also known as "The Path of Slack."

    You say

"You have the freedom to post, on the forum, or to moderators, any suggestions you have for the forum's rules, etc.

Not necessarily I received a warning plus 1 point for following up on an obvious divergence from the posted rules. I was commenting on a different subject than the OP but it was a response to another topic all ready on the thread. My response was in no way derogatory just a natural response to the posters comment. My post was removed and his was left on.

I do not need another demerit so I will not go into the details of the two posts nor the name of the other poster. One who I generally admire.

    Here here! Precisely!

  14. Normalization of Deviance = To people outside of the organization, the activities seem deviant; however, people within the organization do not recognize the deviance because it is seem as a normal occurrence!

Why is it certain chronic posters on the Chiang Mai forum seem to be able to hijack every topic and more or less deviate it, it seems that certain individuals here are more than equal?

    Anyone else feel like this?

If you don't like a post and think it's deviant. Then report it.

If you have solid concerns report them to a mod or admin.

    Why not just name names?

    Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE Q6

Aha, you see this is exactly what I'm talking about, it's not about the post, it's about the hijacking of any and all topics, let me re-post the definition.

Normalization of Deviance = To people outside of the organization, the activities seem deviant; however, people within the organization do not recognize the deviance because it is seen as a normal occurrence!

  15. Napoleon Complex much? Issues, party of one.....

Basically, this is why I don't go to Duke's...........because this piece of USDA Choice sirloin cost me 3 USD in the States. I don't go to Outback, Lonestar, or the others, either. The common theme for the farang restaurant owners on TV is to pat each others backs, and say how great the hot dogs and eggs were, never giving the price, and anyone who complains is bashed as being poor or can't afford it. I don't know if Duke's is on The Trip Advisor list or not, but to me that is the new scarlet letter for arrogant owner with expensive, nothing to get excited about food. Same way with AAA approved hotels, and of course the Lonely Planet guide to eating in Thailand, with places a Thai has never been, with the dirtiest lowest class tourists possible, at Western prices, with Thai sanitation. Called Agoda for a refund on Monday, after checking into a Trip Advisor recommended hotel. Purely disgusting, backpacker dump.

    Good luck with your business.

Remember Tuskers? Those people were a class act. Something for everyone, and some good freebies.

Wow Tuskers, there was a real DUMP, my opinion, my money, my choice, I went there once and was horrified, the owner was a jerk, the staff were lazy and I left without finishing my slop or drink! bah.gif

or might just be found in the title of an old Clark Gable , Doris Day movie.......

that should give some a little investigative dilema

    I don't want to be a moderator,

Mama, take this badge off of me. I can't use it anymore. It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see.

  17. Glad the topic reopened.

The OP lambasted the users of the forum but does not explain why?

I, for one, would not want to eat at his establishments with such a nasty, crass and angry owner. Just saying................

That's your right, your money. your taste.... which is exactly the point!

  18. You have the best American style restaurant in Chiang Mai. I wouldn't be concerned about what anyone says on this site. smile.png

Yup that's the fact "Good Food", I like the Dukes, David and all the staff!clap2.gif

  19. Hi Dave. I'm the guy who blew up all the fire works at you riverfront restaurant last new year. Don't see what your on about. Your a good dude and you have have two really great eateries. All I hear is positive stuff. And some a these guys I know are pretty hard ass picky shits too! Whatever it is man, I hope it resolve s and smooth sailing ahead. Cheers Dave. smile.png

Exactly Dave, these "Black Cloud" jerk's seem to sit here all day and contribute nothing but rubbish, what I don't understand is how they've been able to hijack the forum?

  21. V power is gasoline

    diesel is diesel.

Suprised your engine is still ok.

V Power is Gasoline? The engine would certainly be clean, that would be like adding 10 small bottles of engine cleaner wouldn't it,also diesel is a lubricant Hmmmmmmmm?

  22. one of them took my mates toe, one bite and gangrene set in, more aggressive than a centipede, certainly more painful.
