  1. Yup, happens to me all the time, same thing, or else it's 1,350 and they bring back varying amounts of change that are not 1,650, usually the go for 150 baht and up.

1 time at Esso on the Super Highway the guy came from the store and handed me 230 baht, I gave him 2,000, I said WT_F's up with that, my car doesn't hold that much, I looked at the pump and it was only 1,260!

  2. Thanks for posting the photos Greenside. Just confirms my feeling that there is absolutely no reason to ever go there. I might check out the cinema one night though.

In no time there will be little stalls set up under the escalator, staircases and so forth, selling everything from deep fried snacks to bus tickets, etc. like at Meechoke Plaza which really looks tacky.

Amazingly enough the first time I went to the "Harbour Mall" around the fountain there were no carts, but alas they are here now and plenty of them, they told me they wouldn't have either, but they are there, let us see how it unfolds at Promenada Mall, I met the guy that runs it, he doesn't appear to take much crap, let us watch and see....

It has always been a mystery to me while anyone would go to a Karaoke Bar in the first place. Guys go there to sing songs and buy drinks for women that aren't going to go home with them?

They do go home with them if they pay up. Its not a problem. I went to one karaoke place in Chumphon with some thai friends and there was plenty of action in the room itself, and this was for small tips (100 to 200 baht), the girls would leave with the client for well under 1000. Chiang Mai must be the biggest karaoke rip-off place in Thailand.

And of course, some people do actually just like to sing. You can go with a group of friends. The "mama san" will ask you early on if you want "girls". You are allowed to say no in the places I've been to. They will ask you again once you've had a few drinks of course tongue.png

55555 Chiang Mai karaoke works the same as all araoke, pay and play, but SOME karaoke places in CM charge for the hostesses even if they say hello, these are the scam places, like the one where the guy had the problem, they pad the bill and charge for things that just didn't get ordered or served.

  4. Yes, I was told by a Rimping manager that they are opening a restaurant there.

Should be good. I went to a function last year where Rimping catered and the food was excellent. I had fish and chips and the g/f had rigatoni with Bolognese sauce. I was surprised how good it was and they had a great selection of wine as well.

Wow, if it's true and they have a restaurant it will be great, I wonder if the customer (us & them) will be able to buy wine at the Rimping wine shop price and crank a few jugs of that back as well, they do have a grand selection there!! Woooo Hoooo!!

  5. A guy decides to have a quiet coffee, and the use of free wi-fi,and in walks a middle class snob who calls everybody a cheap charlie

55555 Too funny, I thought the concept of "Free WiFi" was to bring in the customers that wanted to enjoy drinking and surfing, go figure.....

  6. With a bit of luck it will make Airport Plaza much more user friendly. Much more convenient location for us.

I just hope it is accessible as Airport plaza for those of us who do not own are own transportation.

I don't own it as I feel by not owning it I am protecting others.cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

I just hope I remember how to ice skate, maybe I should stay off of them to protect others 555555!!

Is it going to be a real ice rink? I have a feeling its going to be a fake plastic one.

Nope it will not be plastic, it will be ice....

  7. judging by the replies chastising the op for considering getting a taser i think we can assume most of those people have never been the victim of a violent crime - mugging, burglarized while they are home etc, and therefore assume that as it hasn't happened yet it can never happen.

some of the suggestions so far -

talk your way out of it?

    walk/run away

    dont look like a victim

how does one talk ones way out of a mugging? sure if the attacker approaches front on and you just throw out your wallet but what if they belt you from behind and as you get up the move in for a second attack?

walk/run away and dont look like a victim? most of the posters on tv are im assuming 'old codgers' tongue.png that probably couldnt run away and there age may have them viewed as a 'soft target'

how do we know the op is not a woman - or inquiring for a gf or wife - plenty of women have complied with muggers and then the mugger has got an even more sinister idea in his head and a mugging has turned into a rape

but apparently most of thaivisa lives in a really nice sweet world where such things dont happen

Sure okay, lets review give up the wallet or do time for carrying a concealed weapon 555555555

  8. There is no nightlife in Phayao other than eating stalls. Phayao has a very large lake "Kwan Phayao". I didn't see any fishing but there should be some. Phayao has Thailands best Khao Soy that I think is better than in Bangkok. Good coffee is hard to find. I like the Phayao Northern Lake Hotel (054 411 123) which is a short walk from the bus station and about the center of town.

What? No nightlife in Phayao? Hmmmm go to BM Club, lots of action there!

Second timer I was on them they told me I was a defeense man I had to ask what does he do. It was a company team. If I get out there watch out.clap2.gif

Oh Noooo, maybe better for me I stay as an observer as well! b

Back about 1,000,000 years ago i use to play Right Wing, of course I wasn't as big as an Elephant then.... Better to think this over carefully for me w00t.gif

  12. Being punched *ONE* time equates to "Seriously Assaulted"???? Was it Mike Tyson that punched him?

what else? exaggeration at his best.

any men going in dodgy sleazy places deserved to get ripped off

Ya ya ya, the poor guy was trying to support local businesses, probably close to having his own bursary fund, and you think he's deserves to be thrashed?

Why would you think anyone should be assaulted (which I might add is illegal in Thailand)?

    Ripped off, assaulted!! Wow....... w00t.gif

  13. Ok I have the solution;

    1. Promptly round them up from the detention center!
    2. Any goods they are carrying or holding, that were gained illegally in Thailand should be confiscated, after all, they entered illegally and have no work permit.
    3. Take them to Sattahip and load them up on the H.M.T.S Narathiwat (of course they should be prepared to work, after all they have no money for fare).
    4. Swiftly set sail for Myanmar and reunite them with their families there, where they will receive fair treatment from the good folks in Burma....

Problem solved, yet there's still the matter of outstanding room and board for when they burdened the Thai people with their uninvited presence!

Ummmmm I suppose they could send the outstanding balance later.......

You badly need to acquaint yourself about the reasons they fled Myanmar on boats, many perishing at sea in the effort. Right now there are some pretty nasty groups, including some monks, stirring up local people to attack, kill & burn Muslims out of formerly peaceful & mixed communities.

Yes, the problem originates with Myanmar, but they are not controlling the racist groups responsible. Scott has pointed out the only way that this problem can be handled fairly. Read his posts on this thread.

No no no, I need not worry why they've come to Thailand or fled, I don't care!

What I need to do is encourage them to leave!

  14. So?

    What now, Thailand?

Back on the boat...push them out?

How about your home country? Willing to take them? I didn't think so.

    See...that may be the point.

Thailand is part of the world community...yeeeees, even as the center of the universe, you are!

So they are here and I guess (I am not sure) Thailand has signed to refugee treaties.

As long as there is no better way, takes some money, give them some place to stay and regulate the stay.

In Phang Nga they are living under worse conditions than anyone would have chicken on a farm!

This is not about some "cattle", these are human beings.

And I don't care, who helps them, but as humans, we are defined by the way we treat the weakest and poorest and the ones that need our help.

So Thailand has to help- supported by the international community!

Sure it would be a great idea, to ship some Asian muslim to central Europe and have them stay there!

    ...or what is your solution?

Put them out of their misery with...???

Nope, back to Myanmar with them!!!

They will feel better being at home!
