Submarine Deal Won’t Be Scrapped At Expense Of Other Agreements: Suthin
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Minister is posturing for the public who are clamoring for cancellation. I think China has Thailand over a barrel now. Substituting a Frigate now will be costly. Not to mention the investments the RTN has already made in infrastructure to support submarine operations. What an embarassement. Somebody should pay, oh right, the taxpayers. -
Thailand’s New Year public holidays announced
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm shocked they decided and announced this so early. Usually, they wait until a day or two before. That said, I can see them throwing 2 Jan back in the holiday category closer to the end of the year. -
Thailand’s prime minister and the colorful history of sock diplomacy
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He looks like a Circus Clown. Brown shoes? And pretty ratty looking. Can you imagine if we showed up at Immigration dressed like that? -
Somebody needs to slap a muzzle on this clown. Work this problem behind closed doors, or better yet, let the professionals (MoFA) handle it.

Thaksin Had Four Shoulder Incisions: Paetongtarn
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's hard to tell given the vague details but I'm guessing this wasn't brain surgery, but rather standard procedure for post-procedure care. Observation after the procedure to make sure that gigantic square noggin is still functioning properly. And a note to the hairdresser that the convict will be back in his room shortly for a hair-dying session. -
That's one of the highest ratios of positive drug testing that I recall. More of a drug problem than an entertainment or opening hours problem? Interesting that the local police were not involved, in the raid I mean. 137 people test positive for drugs after raid at illegal pub in Pathum Thani Raid at an illegal pub in Pathum Thani province early on Sunday found 137 patrons testing positive for drug abuse. The raid was conducted by officials from the Provincial Administration Department and the Office of Narcotics Control Board. The raid of the MEM Exclusive Club on Hathairat Road in Lam Lukka district was led by department director-general Ansit Samphantharat and Arkas Panyaem, a specialist from the board’s Area 1. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40032129

Winter festival in Thailand to boost tourism through creative events
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How can these imaginary and unplanned events "boost tourism"? People have already made their travel plans, so they're coming to Thailand regardless. No tourists are going to wait until next month to hear about events and then book a trip. And this "soft power" thing is getting old. -

Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Surgery? Too much golf or tennis. More elective than life-threatening. -
Thanks for this. Regarding Annuities... Article 20 says: Annuities derived and beneficially owned by a resident of a Contracting State shall be taxable only in that State. While the terms are defined in Article 3: "a Contracting State" and "the other Contracting State" mean the United States or Thailand, as the context requires; If my Annuity is derived in the U.S., is that the Contracting State? Or is Thailand the Contracting State? I infer that Social Security is taxable only in the U.S.? And not taxable in Thailand? Is that correct? Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph 1, social security benefits and other similar public pensions paid by a Contracting State to a resident of the other Contracting State or a citizen of the United States shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State.

Found the Sherrings link, but cannot find the Mazzars link. If you or anyone has that handy I'd appreciate a repost. Thank you VERY much. I did not realize that those brackets were stair-stepped. I should have deduced this based on the bracketing in the table. Does anyone know if receiving banks will make any deductions upon remittance? And will Immigration require a gross or net (after any potential tax deduction) monthly figure for the 65,000 requirement? Is there any deduction for medical expenses?

Thaksin Underwent Surgery, Now Recuperating: Corrections Dept
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The convict has millions of admirers who are truly concerned about the health of their 'leader'. IMO, the convict's family is doing a disservice by leaving them wondering about his health status. At least say that he is recovering as expected and will be up and about quickly after this most recent operation. -
Thai Workers in Israel Urged to Decide on Return
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just to be clear, they were caring for crops, picking fruit. The Thai government - not this one, but the Prayut regime - made this mess by agreeing to supply 25,000+ workers to Israel. And the Ministry of Labor "facilitated" the supply of Thai citizens. After two Thais were killed in a previous (May 2021) Hamas rocket attack, it was said that Thai workers would no longer be allowed in the areas close to Gaza. Obviously, that didn't stick. The current government needs to be doing more, a lot more. Both to get these folks home and to clear their debts. Where else are there a lot of Thai workers in potential jeopardy? -
Thaksin Underwent Surgery, Now Recuperating: Corrections Dept
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The obvious candidates are a joint replacement, or maybe a rounding off of his square noggin? The question remains, why have a surgery like this here? At the Police Hospital? And not some top-of-the-line hospital elsewhere, either in Thailand or another country? Unless it was some sort of emergency? In that photo where he was on a stretcher supposedly heading for an MRI he looked a bit distressed. But I guess if it was an emergency they might have taken him to Bumrungrad, or his own hospital Praram 9. -
Thanks for fixing this.

Thaksin’s stay at police hospital extended by Corrections Department
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think the most recent projection was for February 2024, for release. I suspect something closer to New Year's, if not sooner. Full pardon for an end-of-year present, or home confinement through Feb. -
Defence minister to testify to House committee on submarine deal
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hardly seems fair to grill the current Defense Minister, just because he has been left holding the bag (which is devoid of cash because his predecessor took it already). But what can you do? Now who was the Minister of Defense when this deal was struck? Oh, right, Prayut Chan-Ocha. Maybe question him. -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
bamnutsak replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
I too enjoyed this three-part prequel. I was sure I wouldn't but I was hooked. And yes, the soundtrack certainly stood out, right from the get-go: I Feel Love by Donna Summer. https://screenrant.com/the-continental-soundtrack-song-guide/ -
Thaksin Underwent Surgery, Now Recuperating: Corrections Dept
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm beginning to think that the convict is in much worse condition than we've been led to believe. This is his second operation in ~ the last five weeks, according to press reports and his daughter. It was reported ~ 19 Sep 2023, by the convict's daughter, that he had an operation "last week" (week of 10-16 Sep 2023?) It is amazing that when people start questioning the legitimacy of his hospitalization, instead of incarceration, some medical issue or treatment arises. Strange because he looked quite vibrant and healthy when he was on his jet heading into DMK. -
Over 3,000 Thais already repatriated from Israel
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There were a reported 30,000 Thai workers in Israel prior to the hostilities. So ~ 10% so far (incl. students), long way to go. Israeli employers are said to be offering Thai workers financial incentives to stay and work. While the PM is encouraging everyone tor return home.
