Thai court questions police over arrest of former national park chief
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
At this point? Hard to guess? Coin toss. When he was first arrested the evidence seemed overwhelming; piles of cash (~ five million baht was in published reports) and amulets, he demanded an 18% (of the underlings' budget) kickback. I understood that this was recorded. -
Bringing a Samsung A53 5G GSM Unlocked International Model?
bamnutsak replied to InlandSea's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
That variant will work fine here. Probably no warranty support here though. Always recommend buying this stuff where you spend the most time. Are you reloacting to Thailand full time? Regarding geo-loced apps, that's not really an issue. With a US-originated Gmail account you can install US apps anywhere. You may have to create a second GMail account in Thailand for Thai-loced apps. I'd probably buy the phone in the U.S. given the price delta is small. -
Thai court questions police over arrest of former national park chief

A happy ending for Khun Rutchada? Questioning the motives of the authorities rarely works here. Unless you lubricate the "system". Or have ultra-high status. -
Yes. A make-up artist applying lipstick to the pig that is the RTP. The TwoPs can claim, during the "election" that police corruption has been "cleaned up". He is everywhere, to the point where it seems like he must have at least two dopplegangers. He's sending a US/Thai woman back, he's charging ~ 107 Immigration officers with corruption, he's going to the U.S. to lobby for TIP positioning, he's reviewing guns headed for the crusher, and that was just yesterday. You have to admit that he got the Tu Hao genie back in the bottle rather effectively. Still some clean up on aisle 3 for the Macau888 and Forex3D "schemes".

Russians make Thailand a refuge as Ukraine war enters second year

Interesting that Thailand voted in favor of the U.N. Resolution calling for immediate end to war in Ukraine https://news.un.org/en/story/2023/02/1133847 Thailand voted in favor of the first resolution, then abstained on the second one. -

Russians make Thailand a refuge as Ukraine war enters second year

Yes, there are many ways off the sinking vessel but surely there are Russian authorities at these land/border crossings who enable entry and exit? Or are you saying these borders are open? One assumes no Russians are fleeing to North Korea? -
Prawit Might Be Prime Minister Only For A Year: Academic
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Of the Senators not chosen by the Junta previously (194 + 6 "top brass"), there were 50 openings, for which some 2,476 "applied". There were many charges of vote-buying and corruption, yes I know shocking - during this process. It is not clear to me how the next batch of Senators will be nominated, selected and appointed. I think there is an Organic Law covering this procedure, but I haven't found it. (The old one is available.) Some read that the current crop of Senators would again participate in the Parliamentary vote for a (not so new?) PM. This power of the Senate will become a thing of the past after June 2024 under Section 272 of the 2017 Constitution as it only exists for five years after the inauguration or first sitting of parliament under the charter which took place in 2019. Section 272 In the period of five years from the date of installation of the first National Assembly under this Constitution, an approval of a person suitable to be appointed as the Prime Minister shall be done in accordance with section 159, except for the consideration and approval under section 159 paragraph one, which shall be done by a joint sitting of the National Assembly, and the resolution approving the appointment of any person as the Prime Minister under section 159 paragraph three must be made by votes of more than one-half of the total number of existing members of both Houses. During the time under paragraph one, if a Prime Minister cannot be appointed from the persons in the lists submitted by political parties under section 88 due to any reason, and members of both Houses comprising not less than one-half of the total number of existing members of both Houses submit a joint signed petition to the President of the National Assembly requesting the National Assembly to pass a resolution exempting the nomination of the Prime Minister from the persons in the lists submitted by political parties under section 88, in such case, the President of the National Assembly shall promptly convene a joint sitting of the National Assembly. In the case where the National Assembly passes a resolution approving the exemption with votes of not less than two-third of the total number of existing members of both Houses, the procedure under paragraph one shall be undertaken further, in respect of which the persons in the list submitted by political parties under section 88 may or may not be nominated. I assume the procedure will not be transparent, and would result in Senators pre-disposed to support a PM named Prawit or Prayuth. -
Russians make Thailand a refuge as Ukraine war enters second year
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Are Russians able to carry Rubles out of Russia? Is there any limit on them bringing in Rubles? Are they able to exchange Rubles for THB here? What do money changers do with the Rubles they buy? (Not many Thais traveling to Russia these days.) Can they use their credit cards here? Russians get 45 days? Can they extend that another 30 days? More importantly, how many have left? That Azur aircraft that vacated a takeoff at HKT last month seemed to be full with 309 passengers, so some Russians are returning home. -
PM Gains Poll Momentum Ahead of General Election
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Well he did say his "twenty-year plan" was "irreversible". https://www.sme.go.th/upload/mod_download/download-20201012114016.pdf 20-year plan irreversible: PM PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha staunchly defended his 20-year national strategy plan yesterday and warned that people should not allow politicians to scrap it, even as scholars expressed their fears it could be used to sabotage future governments. “Today, many parties are saying that when they become the government, they’ll axe the national strategy,” Prayut said. “[That is] axing your own country. Will you people yield to that? You can’t. This is the avenue you must pursue if you want prosperity.” The junta leader made the remark in a speech “National Strategy: Thai Future Our Future” that he gave to the opening of the National Economic and Social Development Board’s annual meeting at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. The event was attended by more than 2,500 people from various sectors. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30355356 -
I wonder how many of these bad apples worked in Immigration when Surachate led that organization? 75%? 90%? Good to see he instilled such a sense of honesty and respect for the law during his tenure. He is on track to be national police cheif but that position is usually the last just prior to retirement, so it will be a few years before that happens. That's the one position you can't purchase. After that? Can't see him in politics.

Thai Authorities to Promote More Traditional Songkran
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The MiniCult (Ministry of Culture) only gets to flex once a year, and given COVID, they been quiet for a few years. So they'll be on about "tradition", and warning against scantily clad women, and twerking in the lead up to Songkhran. -
PM Gains Poll Momentum Ahead of General Election
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Super Polls are often mocked for their favorability towards the ruling government. Back in the post-coup era Prayuth would often garner approval ratings in the mid to high 90% range from a Super Poll. Good to see these clowns are back and haven't re-branded. -

Prawit Might Be Prime Minister Only For A Year: Academic
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well Thais don't "vote" for the PM, I mean other than five or six of the more prominent ones. That's the whole point of "Thai-style" democracy. I think this serves a few purposes... easier to build an unassailable coalition prior to the election give Prawit a farewell tour, and pave his way to the Privy Council extend the rule of the NCPO/junta be able to bring back Prayuth for his last four (or more?) years -
Doctor Warns Children Should Not Eat Cannabis Jellies
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's not how the THC percentage is measured in edibles. The final percentage is based on the content of the source material, the extraction proess, the amount of decarbing material, the decarbing process, and then how much say "butter" is used to bake a cookie. Note that the extraction process is ILLEGAL. Doubtful but would welcome the basis for your assertion. Again, this story is about jellies, not brownies, and it is about a young person buying cannabis jellies in a shop. I will agree that most edibles sold on FB have a THC content greater than 0.2 %, and thus are ILLEGAL.
