Thai activists call for stop to punishment haircuts in schools
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Education Minister brought this on herself. Classic Thai. https://aseannow.com/topic/1284588-thailands-draconian-rules-about-hairstyles-for-school-pupils-and-uni-students-ends/ However, it does not necessarily mean that all educational institutions will suddenly allow any kind of styles. It just means that styles will not be officially mandated. Each school and university will have the freedom to come up with their own rules and regulations regarding hair as they see fit. -
I wonder how the typical Fox viewer will feel about Carlson, Ingraham and Hannity, et al having lied to them? “[That whole narrative that Sidney was pushing. I did not believe it for one second.” Sean Hannity (Ex.122, Hannity 322:19-21) https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/23684956/2023-02-16-redacted-dominion-opening-sj-brief-18.pdf “Q: [Y]ou believe, since at least the time that Fox News called the election on November 7th, that Joe Biden was legitimately elected the President of the United States, correct?....A: Yes, I believe that.” Suzanne Scott, Fox News CEO (Ex. 143, Scott 365:10-19) “71 million voters will never accept Biden. This process is to destroy his presidency before it even starts; IF it even starts.....We either close on Trumps victory or delle]gitimize Biden....THE PLAN.” Steve Bannon to Maria Bartiromo, November 10, 2020 (Ex.157

Keeping American cell provider and phone number abroad
bamnutsak replied to InlandSea's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
UltraMobile is a T-Mo MVNO, and took over the PAYG plans from T-Mo. UM has a $3/month plan (100 min, 100 SMS, 100 MB), and supports WiFI calling. I ported my T-Mo number - which I originally got from VoiceSteram back in the late 90's - to UM, it was quite simple to do. The SIMs, I bought two, used to be $13 on eBay, but are a bit more expensive these days, $36.95 was what I saw after a brief search. Maybe not so bad if amortized over three or more years? Can be used for trips back by adding data packs. Needs to be activated in the U.S., maybe by a friend/family member, then mailed here. I infer the OP is still in the U.S.? Any T-Mo MVNO roams here for GSM voice and mobile data reliably. WiFi calling works, subject to handset specs and reliable WiFi, but given that SMSes are 10 cents not huge issue IME. A lot of people have raved about Skype, and that seems pretty reasonably priced, both for the number and the monthly fee/service. Choices come down to indivudual requirements, ranging from a few OTP SMSes per month all the way up to hundreds of voice minutes, GB of mobile data. Agreed. Have a Samsung A53 (Thai purchased) which works fine. Most other phones I have do not. Even if I turn off Vowifi carrier check (Open the Dialer enter this code – *#*#869434#*#*). -
Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
bamnutsak replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Another "gravity overdose". Top Putin war official plunges 160 feet to her death from high-rise building A high-ranking Russian defense official in the war against Ukraine was found dead Wednesday after falling from a high-rise window in an apartment building. Marina Yankina, 58, was discovered by a passerby at the entrance of a high-rise on Zamshina Street in St. Petersburg, Russian news Telegram channel Mash reported. She is believed to have fallen 160 feet to her death. Her personal belongings and documents were found on a balcony in the building. https://nypost.com/2023/02/16/top-putin-war-official-marine-yankina-plunges-to-her-death/ -
In related news... Hobby Club’s Missing Balloon Feared Shot Down By USAF A small, globe-trotting balloon declared “missing in action” by an Illinois-based hobbyist club on Feb. 15 has emerged as a candidate to explain one of the three mystery objects shot down by four heat-seeking missiles launched by U.S. Air Force fighters since Feb. 10. The club—the Northern Illinois Bottlecap Balloon Brigade (NIBBB)—is not pointing fingers yet. There are suspicions among other prominent members of the small, pico-ballooning enthusiasts’ community, which combines ham radio and high-altitude ballooning into a single, relatively affordable hobby. https://aviationweek.com/defense-space/aircraft-propulsion/hobby-clubs-missing-balloon-feared-shot-down-usaf

Ms. Haley had a rocky start with Sean Hannity. Not much there there. Still waiting for the Trump nickname. And then there's this... Controversial Pastor Opens Nikki Haley’s First Presidential Campaign Rally Haley praised televangelist and pastor John Hagee, who has a history of making remarks denounced as anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic and anti-LGBT. Hagee has also suggested that Hilter’s Catholic background contributed to his anti-Seminitism and appeared to refer to the Roman Catholic Church as the "apostate church" and the "great whore,” among other anti-Catholic remarks noted by Catholics, including the Catholic League, which tracks anti-Catholic discrimination. Hagee later apologized for some of his remarks on Catholicism, and defended his remarks on Jews as mischaracterized. “To Pastor Hagee, I still say I want to be you when I grow up,” Haley said. https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2023-02-15/controversial-pastor-opens-nikki-haleys-first-presidential-campaign-rally

Keeping American cell provider and phone number abroad
bamnutsak replied to InlandSea's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I would register for Google Voice, even if you plan to keep Mint Mobile, before leaving the U.S. as it is much more difficult to do from outisde the U.S. Google Voice works fine for 2FA IME. I use it for dozens of apps., 5 -6 times per day and never had a problem. I do have several back-ups. How often do you plan to use Mint Mobile? Will you be making and receiving calls? Will you have access to reliable WiFi? Does your handset currently support MM (T-Mo) WiFI calling implementation? I would probably port MM to GV, or a lower-cost provider like UltraMobile or US Mobile. I do not believe MM will have any issues with your residing outside of the U.S., but I would research that based on the terms of the plan, and even contact them to verify. -
Cabinet approves tourist fee of 150-300 baht for all foreign tourists
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Why is 300 baht the "right" figure to collect? Many here say it is in insiginificant amount. So then why not charge more? Why not 1,000 baht? Will this figure rise in the future? If yes, then why? Who will collect this fee? Who will audit the fund into which these fees will flow? Will timely reports be issued on the activity on this fund? How will funds be dispersed, and to whom? I could care less about 300 baht. I'm more concerned about this HUGE pile of cash ripe for skimming, and kickbacks from hospitals, national parks managers. Let's say 11 million tourists in 2H23, with some 8 million eligible, thats 2.4 BILLION baht. A mountain of cash with very little oversight, and no information so far about how it will be spent, other than some vague references. There's a reason for the push to get this implemented now, and as with most things here, it involves greed and corruption. I'm half-expecting the RTP to be along shortly requesting that a tourist policing fee be implemented. -
Sex-trafficking investigation into Republican Matt Gaetz dropped
bamnutsak replied to Scott's topic in World News
Whitewater Benghazi I'm sure Matt's young "adopted" son, Nestor, is happy his "daddy" will not be prosecuted. Gaetz was reported to have sought a pardon from Trump for these potential charges. Wingman Greenburg, and the underage (at the time Gaetz allegedly had relations with them) women, were probably not reliabe/believable witnesses, which is a must in a she said/he said scenario. Venom-ing cash to women is hardly illegal if you can't prove it was for sexual services. Matt's dodged a lot of bullets over the years. His daddy pulls a lot of strings for junior. -

Yes, this seems like what will happen. Use an app. prepay via credit card, get issued a QR code, which gets scanned by arriving Imm. officer. -
GOP targets drag shows with new bills in at least 14 states
bamnutsak replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
And yet, there they are on Youtube. For anyone to see. So what's the plan? Censorship? Guilty. I read your post as having "seen" all these drag shows in person. Maybe it was the extra detail you added. Fool me once. -

They are desperate to get this in place before the dissolution of the government ahead of elections. The collection, adminstration,a ccounting and transparent reporting, and even the use of, these funds still remains a mystery. The only known is how much will be embezzled. I'd say close to 30%, some in skim, some in kick-backs. I see they're now calling this a "landing fee" so it sounds like they plan to collect it on arrival, presumable before arriving Immigration. -

bamnutsak replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
Yeah, I get that you can't attend every drag show, but can you share how many you've attended, where these were, and why you attended so many. And how mnay children were in attendance? I do respect your right to attend drag shows. -
It's strange that it took Ohio Senator JD Vance 10 days to blame the Biden administration. Or that Governor DeWine has NOT declared an state of emergency thereby availing his fellow Ohioans of Federal Disaster funds and support. My vote would be for Norfolk Southern management and their families be required to consume only water from East Palestine wells for the next 25 years.

How did this thread morph into book banning? I'm not sure the government is best suited to raising children - more so given their record overseeing Native-American orphanages, providing them with love and support, and insuring that they are happy and healthy. That's for parents, and if they need help from health professionals.

You seem to go to a lot of drag shows, with children in attendance. Where was this? If this is such a huge concern why isn't the Republican-led House of Represenatives taking this issue up, holding hearings and writing a bill? -
Mike Pence subpoenaed by special counsel overseeing Trump probes: Sources
bamnutsak replied to Scott's topic in World News
Hiding behind the Congressional speech and debate clause is the last refuge of this incompetent coward. That said, what he experienced OUTSIDE of any role he might play in Congress, during his time as Trump's Vice-President would seem outside that scope.
