Covert Drug Operation Turns Violent: 15 Dead, 2 Million Pills Seized
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Rai News
Impressive tally for the Thai Military. All enemy KIA, no Thai soldiers dead or injured during a night-time encounter. Something smells a bit on this one. -
AFAIK, Android Accessibility features are for hearing/visually impaired individuals. Enabling some of these can put the phone at risk, so it's easy to understand why banking apps may wish to restrict this. This is also why most financial apps won't run on rooted phones. Allowing accessibility permissions can put the device owner at financial and personal risk. Attackers can steal sensitive information, such as banking and other personal information (chats, device PIN, passwords of different accounts, OTP passcodes, contacts, and so much more). https://www.bitdefender.com/blog/hotforsecurity/accessibility-service-an-android-blessing-and-a-security-challenge-in-the-same-package/

Thailand’s tripartite committee to reconsider new minimum daily wage
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Thai propensity to form committees reaches new heights, No one wants to own this one so there is a need for a massive committee to share the blame/risk. -
Yeah. Been there, done that, 10-ish years. So the first IO raised the issue of the contract? Did she stamp your passport, and collect the 1,900 baht fee? Or did she refer you to the second IO. There is, at least, a third-level review, done outside of your presence. I always have a contract in hand (and the twelve most recent bills and proof of payment), which runs for at least the duration of a new stamp, so 1+ year. I include it in my doc pack, but it is usually removed and handed back to me with no obvious review or comment.

Police chief says too soon to determine impact of 4am closing times
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Translated: "We must collect at least one month's protection money, to see if it is worth it." -
Was this the first IO you met with? Or was this the first IO's supervisor/manager? Not sure what to say but I know what I'd do. Get the damn extension Work with the landlord to get a one-year contract but with a single term that says either party can cancel this contract with one-day's notice. Register the apartment on the TM30 site, and file there. Get a copy of the Blue Book and the Owner's ID. Both signed. (These are needed to register for the TM30 site, and your extension doc pack.)

So your landlord is subletting this apartment to you? This makes things more challenging. Does the owner know about this relationship? Is your "landlord" some sort of agent for the owner? I'd try to contact the owner, get a copy of the Blue Book and owner's ID, and then register the apartment myself on the TM 30 website. Ask the owner to scan and email these documents, some Thais prefer to draw a few lines through the copy of their ID and write "For Immigration Only" on it for fear of identity theft. Registering is quite easy.

Phumtham defends PM taking a break to be with his family
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Selling a "land" bridge can be exhausting. Not having to listen to him opine on any number of issues and concerns will be a relief, at least for a few days. Maybe he could take the next few years off? The country would benefit. His list of "accomplishments" was embarrassingly devoid of any concrete solutions. -
Supreme Court asked to probe convicted Thaksin’s privileges
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
He's just got to make it two more days, then he's free. 22 Dec - 22 Feb in home confinement, most suspect he; 's already there. Then free and clear as of 23 Feb 2024, having served half his one-year (reduced from eight years by the Royal Command) sentence. That was a lot easier than any could have imagined. -
Thai tourism revolution: Duty-free ditch and booze bonanza
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I prefer to buy on arrival, no need to schlepp bottles on/off the plane. Savings at King Power Duty-Free on Arrival compared to shops in town, for items I'm familiar with (Single Malt) is ~ 45 - 50 % Arrived Tuesday HND-BKK, purchased Glenlivet 15 Year - 1L, 3,700 THB (QR Code) in the baggage claim area; price in town is 4,000 THB for 700 ml. Still waited 20 ish more minutes for my bag. We all assign acceptable values for purchases, well some anyway. For me, buying duty-free on arrival represents a significant value over LOCAL purchase. -
Thai tourism revolution: Duty-free ditch and booze bonanza
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I casually make my purchase while waiting for my bags to pop out. If one doesn't have checked luggage then your point might be valid. Arriving passengers can make purchases in the main hall as well as the baggage claim area. If "no one buys duty-free" then King Power might not be the successful company that it is? If they ban duty-free on arrival then that means duty-free purchases prior to arriving (on the plane, duty free shop in previous airport) in Thailand too. -
Revolutionary reforms: Government’s 90-day plan to boost economy

Thai tourism revolution: Duty-free ditch and booze bonanza
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This excuse, and the entire proposal, seems idiotic. Given the duty-free limit, 1L, and the relatively limited uptake on arrival, this will lead to a barely measurable increase in domestic sales. Who comes up with this stuff? Full disclosure I always buy on arrival at King Power in the Baggage Claim area. Usually, a single malt, where you can get 1L at the same price you can get 700/750 in town, so a significant savings.- 78 replies

90 Day Online Report Rejected
bamnutsak replied to SmokeandIce's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It is only my opinion, with regards to CW and the 90-day online report, that it is best to file a new TM30 on the NEW system at your earliest convenience. Don't worry aboutt the 24-hour reporting requirement, just get registered and file ASAP. After that online 90-day filings should be approved quickly. My GUESS is that they want to get everyone on the NEW system, and cannot be bothered to migrate the data from the OLD system to the new system. -
Thai woman attacked and robbed in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit (Video)

Huh? The two guys on the motorbike attacking a solo woman, usually knocking her down while snatching her purse is the most commonly reported "mugging" related crime here. -

Why the Supreme Court Is Blind to Its Own Corruption
bamnutsak replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
Clarence being Clarence...that's a nice Supreme Court ya got there, be a shame if something happened to it. A “Delicate Matter”: Clarence Thomas’ Private Complaints About Money Sparked Fears He Would Resign In early January 2000, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was at a five-star beach resort in Sea Island, Georgia, hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. After almost a decade on the court, Thomas had grown frustrated with his financial situation, according to friends. He had recently started raising his young grandnephew, and Thomas’ wife was soliciting advice on how to handle the new expenses. The month before, the justice had borrowed $267,000 from a friend to buy a high-end RV. At the resort, Thomas gave a speech at an off-the-record conservative conference. He found himself seated next to a Republican member of Congress on the flight home. The two men talked, and the lawmaker left the conversation worried that Thomas might resign. https://www.propublica.org/article/clarence-thomas-money-complaints-sparked-resignation-fears-scotus -

Thailand to boost protection for domestic workers
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Day off is always "tomorrow". The entertainment industry is excluded. I wonder if military recruits, who function as domestic help, will be treated under these new "regulations"? -
Government spokesman touts government’s first 90-day performance
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. All the subsidies (electricity, diesel fuel, train fare, hundreds of agricultural price supports, commodity price supports), help people with their daily lives, but at the end of the day, you're still kissing a pig. And the government is paying for your happy ending with a pig. (Which was probably illegally imported.) -
Chase supports 2FA within their app. That's the only 2FA I've encountered with them. But I do have several numbers in my profile, including GV and UltraMobile. Some (like BofA) support a FIDO security key. I need that for id.me, which provides access to many government resources (IRS, SSA, Pay.gov).
