  1. Well, the PM started this little war a few weeks ago by insinuating that the Singapore Government and Swift's management team had colluded. Now that he looks like a whiney little loser he's gone all passive-aggressive. Thailand has no facility capable of hosting the ERAs tour. Nor does Bangkok have the infrastructure to support such an event. And because of the endemic corruption in Thailand, money usually flows from promoters to the government, hence the PM is "shocked" at Singapore's strategy.
  2. The PM seems to have abdicated his position of PM and assumed the role of traveling salesman. He's just back from Australia and we're subject to a fire-hose of "pronouncements", most of the "Hub" variety. Has he accomplished anything? In Thailand? Has he closed any "deals"? If his was a real job he'd be on a performance improvement plan pending termination for cause.
  3. I think she'll arrange a reduction on the Rice Scheme charge from five years to one, based on a Royal Pardon waiting to be executed upon her return. Then she can spend six months under house arrest. All three charges were trumped up and used to force her to leave the country. There is no way she'll spend any time in jail for the rice scheme.
  4. Been there, done that. ~ 2013 https://www.google.com/mymaps/viewer?mid=1l7qC8cFD0dMJz_7wp4uyUiFLVrc&hl=en_US https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayJOxRbzdhY
  5. Probably not. Very easy to watch Dune Part 1, currently streaming on Netflix. And must be available via sources often referenced in this thread.
  6. Yes, at a minimum I think we'll all have to spend a week or two in an Attitude Adjustment Camp.
  7. Sorry but how much did this system cost? 400 million baht in total, or 400 million for each operator (two or three)? All in response to the Siam Paragon shooting.
  8. Who Is Really in Charge In Thailand? Uhm, the Thai Constitution is quite clear on this question. Chapter 1, Sections 2 & 3.
  9. Amazing this chap didn't kill someone already. I'm normally not the "hang 'em high" type, but the authorities need to arrest, confine, and indict this man, assuming there is incontrovertible evidence and/or a confession/reenactment with pointing. If only to send a message for everyone to calm down. I am concerned that these sorts of incidents, and informal retribution will escalate.
  10. The article suggests that Thai authorities (Immigration/RTP) think that there is an organized Human Trafficking effort here. Not sure if they think Influential Thais are behind this ring, or if it is organized in the Philippines. So I think the Human Trafficking angle is more noteworthy than a few foreign sex workers "encroaching".
  11. When lifeguards realized it was Dave the dog-cafe Brit they tossed him back in.
  12. I think this was in Bangkok? Soi 11. Last night. https://aseannow.com/topic/1321574-violent-clash-between-thai-and-filipino-trans-groups-rocks-bangkok/
  13. I think the exchange rate is defined by Visa or MC, unless you specifically choose DCC. It is for me anyway. As my cards are issued in the U.S., and all have 0% Foreign Transaction Fees, I use this site... https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html https://www.nerdwallet.com/best/credit-cards/no-foreign-transaction-fee
  14. ~ Four Filipino LBs whupped one Thai LB, filmed it, and posted on social media making fun of the Thai LB. Thai LBs in the area saw the video. Mayhem ensued. I'm surprised Filipino sex workers and musicians don't face more "hurdles" here.
  15. Thai Vietjet rules https://th.vietjetair.com/page/terms-and-conditions 32 weeks + cannot fly 28 -32 weeks need Fit fo Fly document from Doctor 28 weeks - OK to fly Bangkok Airways: https://www.bangkokair.com/traveling-while-pregnant
  16. The airline has rules for this situation. That the Captain felt it was acceptable to leave the cockpit and assist with the birth tells me that VietJet allows such a thing. The Captain is responsible for all souls on the aircraft. There are also rules about pregnant women flying after a certain period, with or without a Doctor's approval. Strange. If "trained" why not mention that?
  17. I'm surprised Thai banks/credit card issuers aren't charging Foreign Transaction Fees. I thought that 2.5% was pretty standard here? The SCB Planet card is one such option. https://www.scb.co.th/en/personal-banking/cards/prepaid-cards/planet-scb-card.html
  18. I can't understand why a Real Estate Tycoon/Prime Minister/Finance Minister would want lower interest rates.
  19. He already took his "commission".
  20. Interesting that the Swissman's Thai wife seems to be collateral damage. I would have expected the authorities to treat her, and by extension in some small part, her husband better. But everyone seems to be racing to be the most vindictive so this won't reflect well once the initial rage has worn off.
  21. This is the second case that the courts have "cleared up" for Yingluck. All that remains, I think, is the rice scheme "case".
  22. "In principle." Translated: Don't hold your breath. The RTAF/military agreed in principle last year, then reneged. Their TV station(s)? Overthrowing and forming governments might be considered non-military business activities.
  23. Sounds like this may have been Bolt? A lot of visitors use that service as it allows for cash payment. There shouldn't be any confusion as the passenger and the driver have the same route/price info. Any tollway option needs to be discussed and agreed to. Probably some confusion on the options, but the driver has the receipts. There are a few toll routes and non-toll routes from the DMK area to Wat Bowoniwet. I am curious about the disputed amount. I don't think it could be much more than 50 ~ 60 baht.
  24. The Russians seem to have had much better success annexing Phuket than they have had in Ukraine.
