  1. Have heard various rumors that ' money has changed hands' etc but no actual evidence that it'll ever come back on. so, the question is... is it time to get something new or just be patient.

I, like many others, think True visions is over priced and the fact i only want to watch the Premiership football makes it even more 'not an option'. So, how does anyone who doesn't have True visions watch the footie ? I've been streaming it but am sick of the adverts and buffering problems and would rather buy a new box similar to the dreambox but don't know which, if any, to get.

  2. I've been here a decade and can speak fairly decent level of Thai but i've decided its time to take the next step and learn to read and write it too. As i live out in the sticks i can only do this online so would like to know of any decent free websites that people have used to learn to read and write Thai.

Also would appreciate any tips they learnt along the way as the huge alphabet seems a bit daunting (44 consonants !).

  3. I'm looking to start running my car on gas (i know about the price rise coming) due to the local pump station is going to introduce it where i live. So was wondering what the cost would be in order to justify doing it or not. I live well away from any major city so would like to know the actual price so as NOT to get the 'farang' price when i get there.

  4. Came out here over a decade ago with 5 mates. 3 are now dead due to accidents and a heart attack, all in their 40's. So i've decided to cash in my pension whilst i can still enjoy the benefits as my financial future is fairly secure. This though is way easier said than done. I've a couple of U.S. friends who had no problems 'selling' theirs as in the USA a pension is classed as your money and you can have it any time you want. In the U.K. there's little chance of getting it until your at least 55yrs old if not even older.

So, does anyone have any advise on how to get my hands on it at 49 years old ?

  5. ..hardly a loser if you're getting reliable internet access @ 9mb for 200B/month...

You will only get the full 9mbs if no one else is using the connection. If all the other 9 people are using it then you will only get 0.9 mbs. Most of the time you would be getting something between the two.

This is what sharing is all about.

Come on, this is perpetual motion machine stuff: it just cant be done.

There are only 6 people in my village with wireless capability, 5 up and running now and very fast, i'll be the 6th and final. I'll get it for 200baht/month as opposed to TOT's 590+100baht line rental = 690/month saving me 490 baht every month (winner). The guy who is doing the wifi service has had to pay for the transmitter, tower which its mounted on and a transmitting license. He also has to pay tax on this income (which i've seen. all legit). So, he's a winner making a profit, i'm a winner saving money and the Thai government is a winner as the get a tax return making the only real loser the big mouth who didn't know the facts before opening his big mouth and that would be ..... you Darrel ! Get a life and stick to the opening question in future !

  6. The village where i live now has a guy selling 9MB WiFi for 200 baht a month. Way cheaper than TOT. What i' looking to buy is a wireless router that can both receive the WiFi and then transmit it so i can both use my home computer, TV box and mobile phone. when i've looked on the internet none of them explain what they do, some say 'all in one' router, 'wireless' router, modem router etc etc. Its all over my head as i'm not too computer literate.

So, i ask those that know ... what am i looking for ? I've been using tohome.com which has a large selection of routers so if someone who know could have a look and help me i'd appreciate it.

  7. Another option may be going to your nearest city Amphur and seeing if they can help.

I once got a letter from the main amphur from Kanchanaburi confirming my address when my local amphur wouldn't issue one.

They even called my local amphur and told them to do their job properly in the future and lo and behold next time I needed the letter from my local amphur it was issued without hassle.

Hi guys, when the Thai wife did mine for me the first port of call was the 'tessabahn' office which had all the paperwork there. Needed my Thai wifes parents and the 'poo yai bahn' to attend as well. There was an interview about the usual... how long have you been here, parents name etc etc, copy of passport and they sent it off to the Amphur to process, about two weeks. I've asked since and the big chief at the tessabahn said that once they've issued the Amphur with the filled out paperwork they can't refuse (or ask for tea money).

  8. Got a new android phone (HTC Desire). Have been looking through the 'thousands' of apps and games available and its pretty overwhelming. So, all you who have had an android phone for some time must know the best apps and games from the rubbish ones and it'd really help if you'd post them to help get me started. Also, if theres any good web sites, i've only found 2 being androidfreeware and androidsoft4u but i'm sure theres loads more.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. i have a spare 4 camera input x2 monitor output Kenpro DVR with a new 250gb Seagate hard drive

just serviced by Fujiko and under a 3 month guarantee from them

a new one would be around 10-12,000 baht

i am looking for around 5,000 for mine

you will then need 4 cameras and a TV

i have some lengthy cabling you can have for free with the DVR

the advert was on classifieds but it may have been taken down now

If you'll take 4500 for it i'll be round tomorrow evening for it. Let me know a.s.a.p., ta.

  10. My pool in the rainy season has developed black dots all over. After looking around for the black algaecide treatments i found dramatic variations in price and type.

So, can anyone who has used the treatments or know of a supplier, post some treatment prices (including delivery to Phetchabun if pos) and how good they are (crystal and liquid).

    Thanks in advance, C.

  11. My sister in law had it done an an Toyota Altis and you don't notice the performance loss so much, but she had an accident and borrowed our spare Yaris, which I think is pretty cheap to drive and said it was way more expensive than her car, ..... So she has a much more economical, larger ect. car and seemed even happier for doing it after she borrowed the Yaris ! lol

CNG or LPG, 1600,1800 or 2000cc?

Its a 2000cc model and i'm looking at LPG though either will do.

  12. I've got a Honda CR-V i-vtec model and am thinking about getting it converted to gas as its only 8.5 baht/liter. But, the only one i've ever seen or driven with the conversion seemed sluggish to say the least. As i dont know if it was like this before the conversion i'd like some reviews from those that have had it done and how it effected their performance and distance per liter of fuel. I've read that its around about a 10-15% drop in power output but would be interested to know if after its done how much you really notice it.

Also, how much does it cost. I'm thinking about getting the 'doughnut' shaped one that fits under the mat in the back as its out of site and dont want to be unaware when they offer me the 'farang' price first :whistling: .

Plus, anyone know where to get it done in either.... north end of Bangkok (Rangsit area), Saraburi, Lopburi or Phetchabun as i live out in the sticks.

    Thanks in advance, C.
