  1. I used to live in Pat's about 9 years ago for just over a year. I am visiting again for a few days and wanted to take home some frozen food i cannot get in the remote village i live in near Phetchabun, When i was last there about 2 years ago i couldn't find Mr moo's, was near Big C but gone .... so, am looking for various pies and frozen battered fish (know i can do battered fish myself but ...) . Sure this topic is well battered too but i have many pollistyerne boxes and want to fill my freezer with tasty western style food... so where to go ? (map if pos please :)

  2. I live in a remote part of Thailand were all the dealers only have mopeds up to 150cc in them. I have a Honda superfour 400. A year ago had a serious car crash and now get back ache when riding over 20km's. A lad i know recently bought a Honda PCX 150 and give me a go on it. I thought it was great, very comfortable and zero ache's after. The only disapointment i could find was the 105 kph top end. So i got to searching the net for slightly larger models. Found the following, Forza 300, Skywave 400, Majesty 250 and T-max 500.

Would like your views on them plus any other big scooters out there, review including soi use, long distances, comfort, practicallity, economy and anything else you'd like to add.I would like to get a feel for them before travelling to go and buy one and i find reviews from people who have owned one for a while as opposed to some guy from a review site that has been given one for a day to try out is way better.

  3. I live in a fairly remote part of Thailand. Took my Dell laptop to the local computer shop to see if he could get me a new battery for it. He pretty much sh*t himself. Shaking his head and saying no no no, Dell !

So, i'm going to future park next week, can i get one there or in or around Rangsit ? Or is there a website where i can order one online ?

    Laptop - Dell XPS720S

  4. I love you TV members ingenuity . I'm happy to just go out to bkk restaurants and buy a pizza. Especially from small pizza . Italian restaurants .. Yes expensive but ok with me. Keep it up

We who live in Back of Beyond land tend to learn all sorts of ingenious skills. I actually enjoy not having easy access to a lot of the usual western stuff, its taught me how to cook, bake all sorts of stuff, kinda takes me back to a simpler age. Reminds me of when I was a kid in rural California back in the 60's and my Mom made everything in the house.

I'm actually getting that way. If you had told me 10 years ago i can now make my own soups, stews and even bacon i would have laughed my head off. But as you say, living in the sticks, which i ador, has changed everthing i do for the better and its also much more fun and rewarding .... and tasty :)

  5. I have been in contact with someone selling a truck which i wish to buy. I asked them if they had all the required documents for change of ownership inlcluding the document from the British Consulate showing their residency which i have always had to use when putting the vehicle into my name. They said that they did not need it as they had a work permit and a copy of this would sufice.

I dont actually know if it does or not nor have i ever heard of this being used, so, does anyony know if it can be used instead of the letter of residency from the Consulate ?

  6. Makro has pizza bases but, IMHO, they are really crap! why not make your own dough. You can make a big batch and freeze individual portions for later use. I live in the sticks also and the biggest problem that I have is getting yeast that is not dead. i make a universal dough that can be used for pizza crusts, but also flour tortillas and flat bread depending how you prepare it. PM me if you want the recipe.

Thanks for your help.... really appreciated :)

  7. I live in a remote part of Thailand, 120kms from the nearest Tesco, Big C or Makro. But, i am willing to travell to one of them if i can bulk buy deep pan style pizza base's. A guy in town now sells pizza and gets his base's out of a plain cardboard unmarked box and of course wont tell me where to buy them. So if anyone knows where, proberbly Makro, could they let me know. Thanks.

  8. Eight days ago my pension provider told me they had sent my tax free lump sum to my bank (Bangkok Bank). It has not arrived yet and my bank dosn't know where it is and my pension provider, 2 days ago, said they would look into it... no reply yet.

So, if anyone has had their lump sum sent over to a Thai bank i'd be interested to know how long it usually takes as i'm getting quite anxious.

  9. I have a small snooker hall in the middle of nowhere. I used to have a lad work for me who used his laptop to top up mobile phones using a Thai website. He has left now but i still get loads of people coming in asking to top their phones up.

So, does anyone know the website used for doing this, if so could they post me the link to it please.... or, how to use my mobile phone to top up another mobile phone.

Any links or advise on this would be most appreciated as i'm not too savvy at this tongue.png

  10. Ive used several immigration office's whilst living in Thailand from Bangkok to ,Pattaya and Phitsanulok is like being in another country by comparison. Friendly and helpful. I've actually got my 90 day report back the next day (by post).

I've needed to photo copy a form that wasn't needed the year before and they said "give it here, we'll do it for you". How many other office's would do that for you ???

  11. Interesting that none of the replies talked about the 802.11 standard for routers. The version to which the router was built to determines its capabilities.

My investigations after getting True cable internet and their provided Cisco modem router says that most wireless routers are built to 802.11g like the Cisco is. The 11.g spec is old and has limited range plus, when you do get a good connection it is limited to 54MB from the router. Just like with computers, technology advances and performance improves and standards change to keep up and try to form a common baseline for the different manufacturers to work to.

The latest spec is 802.11N though an improved, updated spec 11a/c has been or is in the process of being released. Some early 11a/c routers are available in the U.S. but not here yet that I know of.

I have problems connecting within the house and on the front porch. I want more power and more range, so I intend to bridge my Cisco cable modem/router to a 802.11N wireless router.

For talking purposes, in my local store Belkin offers N150, N300, N450DB, N600DB, and N750DB wireless routers, each of which tout a maximum download speed of that number (e.g., the N150 speed is up to 150MB).

I then down selected the N600 DB because I wanted the dual band transmission and equal data rates on both bands. The N450DB said it rates were 150+300 while the N600 is 300+300. And it has a USB port..... which I will probably never use.

Round about way of suggesting that you get the stongest 802.11N router available if you want the 300 meter range. You may still need the other suggestions for antennas and repeaters, etc.

You can find a sample selection of routers available in Thailand at http://www.invadeit.co.th/search/wireless-router/

Thanks for that... most helpful :)

  12. Could someone recommend a wifi router with at least a 300 meter range. Looked on many websites that deliver to your house (in Thailand) but none of them let you know the actual range. They just say "long range" or "high power". I've even googled the products and they never say the actual range either. I own a snooker hall around 200m from my house and want to get wifi there.

Also, if anyone has one they'd like to sell let me know the range and price.

  13. Recently came out of the dark ages and got a new computer with windows 7 and got a 10Mb package from TOT. Decided to download and watch free' movies. After about an hour got really frustrated with all the BS about giving your credit card details though no money will be removed from youe account or tonnes of adverts popping up or having to do a survey first etc etc.

So, for all those that have navigated the mine field already.... where's the best place to look for free movie dowmloads ? Also, any links would be appreciated.

  14. To OP, very unlikely you'll get a loan from a bank. Banks generally lend vs ability to repay, and don't want to be in the business of owning properties they then have to offload. The property is simply collateral / security in case things go wrong. Primary importance is ability to service the debt.

Equity-release mortgages aren't really a part of the Thai mortgage market.

Stay away from that 18% loan. Yes it may be similar to a credit card rate, but credit cards are unsecured. That rate is secured by your house title deeds so a secured loan should be a lower rate.

Given you're looking at 9 years before being in a position to even start repaying from what you describe that isn't in either your or the lenders interest anyway to do. Unless of course the lender charges an exhorbitant rate. 18% compounded for 9 years with no repayments would quadruple your debt. So the debt starting at 3mio would soon be more than the house. Even at 8% it would double over 9 years.

In your shoes I'd be looking to sell and downsize. It might be a possibility to sell it and rent it back to you if you could find someone interested although that's not that likely, it may be an option, as someone may take say a 6% rental yield. Still leaves you without ownership but at least in the same house.

    The best advise right there
