The (Thai) wife just said, why not stay in a hotel in Mukdahan ? Cheaper than Laos and don't have to pay 250/day to par the car ..... man, that makes sense ! Been on Agoda again and found better hotels at better price's !

Can't beat a personal recommendation though!
Totally agree, also on Agoda you can read the personal reviews as well as see what Thaivisa users think.

Any hotels anyone can recommend?
I've looked on 'Agoda' website and there are plenty of well rated hotels near by.

I'm going to Savannakhet at the end of the month to get mt multi entry visa based on marriage. The plan is, travel by my car Monday. Staying 2 nights in a pre-booked hotel near the Embassy. Tuesday, take PP+docs to the Embassy and submit. Next day around 2pm pick up my PP and go home.
Advise :-
Can i drive into Laos over the friendship bridge and onto my hotel ?
If not, is there a safe car park on our side ?
In another thread i read that Tuesday is quiet compared to when the mini buses go, is it very quiet can i go to the Embassy anytime ?
Payment for such as food and tuktuk's, can i use Baht in Laos ?
'Any' other advise most welcome !

Flying is out of the question.
Elviajero sent me a PM of a company in Bangkok that does trips to Savvanahket via Saraburi which is a short 50 baht bus ride from me. They help with the application, put you up in a hotel and feed you for a lot less than i could do it by driving myself. Takes the pressure off the long drive and unusual settings that comes with doing it yourself.

Rather than cancelling, just get the single entry visa. As someone else indicated, you can extend for 60 days at your local immigration office. They will not be curious about cash for the old extension of stay because this is a brand new visa and permission to stay. At the end of five months, you can decide what to do next.
Yer, i was thinking about that. The extra 60 days cost's the usual fee of 1,900 baht. Have to way my options up as i may have the funds in a couple of months.

Elviajero, sorry about how this looks but, open the Vientiane Consular web page :-
https://thaivisavientiane.com/
and open the download application link, The heading of the form is Vientiane Consular and at the bottom asks if you want multiple entries, guess it a mistake.
Just got this from ubonjoe - They only issued multiple entry visa to Laotians and legal residents there.

You may wish to read current thread running about Savannahket. Has pics. Looks horrible. Perhaps OP went on bad day.
Yer, just seen it, ridiculous queue's, scared the sh1t out of me. If i can find a visa run service i'm going to use them.

They won’t issue a multiple entry visa there; only a single entry.
You will have to go to Savannahket to get a multiple entry.
Are you sure ? it has multi entry on their web page and their application form.

Where to start....just couple of things. I assume you are aware that you need to make appointment with thai consulate in Vientiane.
You cannot do it in one day. You will remain overnight.
Most people don't take their car into Laos. There is a carpark at nong khai border.
You take bus for short trip over river. Then you have a choice of shared taxi or tuk tuk etc to consulate.
Numerous hotels in Vientiane. Any would be fine for a night.
Thanks, just finished booking for July 1st.
Do the hotels in Vientiane take Baht ?

From previous good advice from ubonjoe I’ve decided not to use an agent to get an extension of stay but go to Vientiane and get a multiple entry non-O visa based upon married to a Thai. Agents don’t put any money in your account so if immigration ever check, say when doing my 90 day report, I’m screwed. (I live in the district of Phetchabun so difficult to use Jomtien immigration for 90 day reporting. )
Having never even crossed a border in a car I need some advice. Whats the border crossing like ? Plus, is the Thai consulate easy to find ? are there easy to follow signs ?
Also, when I’ve applied I have to wait till the next day to pick up my passport. Is it ever possible to pick it up the same day ? (perhaps with the help of a little tea money ?)
If not the same day, would you recommend staying in a hotel in Laos or coming back into Thailand to wait ? Any recommended hotels let me know. If staying in Laos, do they accept Thai baht ?
Plus, Joe told me I can get an extra 60 days to visit my Thai wife (150 days), how do I apply for this as I cannot see it on the application form ?
Plus, ANY other advise would be appreciated.

1 hour ago, ballpoint said:Why abandon the family? Why don't they sell their house here and move the family back to their home country? Could it be because their own country's immigration requirements are far stricter than Thailand's?
If i could sell my house i'd do it in a heart beat. I cannot meat the requirements and would literally do anything for 400k right now. I invested everything i had, mid last year, into my business and employ 4 Thais. I am slowly recovering the money but will not be enough for a couple of years.
The rural housing market is all but dead so before you comment use your dead brain ! I know 2 other westerners who have small business's and cannot come close to the new requirements. They will lose their families and home and are really scared right now, like many others i suspect.
It looks like only 2 options (realistically) are available, leave the Country and get a non 'O' or use and agent and take your chance's of not been caught. Both costly and time consuming but there's no other choice's i can see.

OP, if you still want to consider using the agent, I would call them, perhaps they did not want to provide a lot of details in an email. Get clarity on everything you need to provide and how they will process your extension. If you are 10 hours away from the agent the biggest question to ask is which immigration office would they process the extension at, as that would be the office you would need to do 90 day reports and probably other immigration related activities. Best of luck to you.
Thanks Scott, just done what you said, emails are vague but ask all the questions and i just need to visit once, 90 day by post via the agent.

Then it can be done legit w/ 400K bank (2 mo prior - possibly 1 or 2 mo after application - not sure about this in Petchabun), or 40K/mo of foreign xfers. Maybe they will want you to also provide secondary-docs showing origin of income from the trust.
My problem is meeting the financial requirements (as said line 2 of my post)

Thanks for the post.
Trans border pass, do you have to pay for it ?
How much is the bus across ?
Laos visa on arrival is 1,500 baht, correct ? In another post someone said they asked for 200 baht when they gave you the visa on arrival, did they ask you ?
How much was the taxi to the consulate, metered or haggled for ?
Why so long the next day, big queue ?
I live in Phetchabun so i've got an 8 hour drive, going Tuesday and staying in a hotel as like you i've heard Wednesday's are quiet. Also, like to know approximately how much everything costs as to not get ripped off.
