Maybe they are put off by the fact that after doing the paperwork online, you still have to go to London to get the visa.? France has the same problem, do it all online and then go to Paris , which is 900 km from where I live, take a flight and maybe pay 2 nights hotel !!!! I don’t bother and sort it out once over there. Why spend around 300 + euros on a visa ?

From what I know, the well known agents are all legal businesses who employ foreigners and Thais .

loads of Russians working in Jomtien, all along the’ sea front’ and market, and in the restaurants’ on the ground floor of that big condo.

Also hanging heavy black out curtains helps with noise, and sun. I did this in Phuket.

So, what was this strange parasite that made them sick and unable to function for 18 months. ? Just curious.

Holiday money for many Europeans has shrunk in the last few years , and noticeably this year. The cheaper countries are the best off as far as tourist numbers are concerned, Spain, Portugal, Greece, all easy to get to with super cheap flights, legal Airbnb’s , and a choice of hotels and B n B s to suit everyone’s pocket. We have the euro , and no expensive currency exchange. Also, lots of people are staying at home , or with family , camping ,and enjoying the hot summers. Thailand was a fashion, the early visitors gave it all the praise they needed’ to make it a success. Prices were cheap, beaches were clean and the sea water a blue dream. Bangkok was an exotic city, Chiang mMai, everyone went to on the way to their trek through the mountains. The Thais were kind and helpful and the girls of the night weren’t screeching obscenities on the streets and walking around half naked. No, I’m not a prude at all, but the videos and pictures on the internet and tv documentaries have gone all around the world many times, turning thailand into a very unsavoury place to holiday for most people, especially those with families . So what’s left, single men come for the not so cheap anymore sex, and certain people who can easily get what they want in Thailand and cannot back home, the beaches’ are ruined, the islands are over run with stinking speed boats and’ the sea water is polluted and filthy, bordering on dangerous to health in a few places. The poor Thais are just as poor as before, still have less than basic education and a government who doesn’t care. Risk your life taking a mini bus or a day trip to the islands or run over by speeding cars and buses.Honestly, do the authorities not know that all this is broad cast to the’ world of potential tourists ? Anyhow, doom and gloom I know, but a lot of truths.

So, there’s no food poisoning or parasites in Australia. ?

Cameras on every crossing/ lights. Speed cameras on the roads, heavy fines. Surely the heavy fines would please the authorities?

Hi, m surprised no one has mentioned Khanom . Never been there, but might go having heard nice things about it. Looks like the beach is clean and inviting. I’m sure there’s a small expat corner with a decent bar or two for sundowners. Also, if you are thinking of building a home there, maybe the prices could be reasonable. Or is it too close to Thungsong. ? Further afield I could only say Koh Chang, but that’s not a 2 hr drive. Enjoy !!!

Move into a cheap hotel for a few days, do your extension , give a months notice, and move somewhere with an honest landlord.

THeres à super pizza/ italien restaurant on Soi 3 ( i think) the soi before immigration. Pizza done from scratch with real italien cook.Uses italien flour.
best I’ve had. There’s Marcos too, on the way down from the Provincial court and before the Jomtien / Bangkok bus station. Haven’t eaten there but heard good things from people who go there often.

The trend is huge malls all over the world. Unfortunate for small business owners of course. Many town centres globally have been emptied , closed down shops everywhere. Parking problems being one of the main problems. Of course, having a super air con to do your shopping / eat, have coffee, or a nice roof over your head when it’s cold or raining is great too. It’s called progress, and there should no going back .

From what I see, Indians come in groups and are mostly men. So , not much imagination needed to know why they come to Thailand.

Rent and electric bills aside, I think you should be ok on 18000 B a month, eating good food at home and eat out once or twice a week., Not much else to do in Krabi , is there ?

Sorry, you don’t have a choice. Get a good lawyer , divorce, and put in for visiting rights immediately. You won’t get custody. Go back to OZ and send her upkeep and school fees for her children. At their age, you have time to sort that out. Do it all now, the longer you wait the worse it will become.

Forget Sihanouk, go to Kampot. Say hello to jean Jacques at camp potes bar .

So, I was told years back at Jomtien that I must also go myself and fill in the document Notification of Address as, on a tourist visa 60 days, when I want an extension, I will need the slip of paper stapled to passport. So, my condo management does it all online and gives me the copy, then I also must go myself. I do this every year as I stay 3 months and need my extension.
I think if you don’t want/ need an extension, you don’t have to bother with reporting yourself, and only condo management will be enough.

Sorry to butt in, does online applying for rdv also work at the Cardiff consulat , or can you just go there to get your visa?

I think the Bangkok post has a full page of publicity for flight tickets etc. Where do you live ? There’s a nice English speaking agency in Pattaya who would know all about tours.

While I am not against this idea, I would never trust them to have a good coverage. I prefer my own insurance who are experts in international travel and have their own doctors and repatriation cover, and guaranteed under Eu law.

While I agree that this man should have a heavier payback, court/ bigger compensation, the idea of different price buffets where a family can’t share the same table is ridiculous ! Have never heard anything like it. How unprofessional to do this, did they never think that a couple, for example, might choose different menus ? Some restaurants do children’s menus, which is very fair considering the child’s appetite. Some small kids eat free. Some people do have stupid ideas.

MAybe they should ask themselves that if there are all these illegal hotels, then the authorities are not doing their job .

On a larger scale the op makes sense. It’s happened all over the world, trade drops, tourist numbers dwindle enough to make the authorities sit up. Only then will something be done to attract more tourists. I don’t think it would help the expat situation though.
