  1. I go back in my office.

    good bye.

    Fox

Believe all you want. Just do it quietly, for the sake of the country. Your red shirt friends have decided to start hitting monks with foot clappers. Care to defend that O?

Thaksin made the trains run on time, did he not?

    No

What he did was rape the country for the benefit of his family and cronies, leaving a trail of dead bodies, broken laws, and reduced freedoms in his wake.

PM Undisturbed by Exiled PM’s Verbal Attacks on Government

    UPDATE : 23 January 2009

The Army chief has declined to hit back following exiled Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's criticism calling him the puppet of a powerful group. However, the Army chief insists he has been doing everything for the best benefit of the country.

Meanwhile, the prime minister is not worried about reported attempts by the ousted PM to sabotage the current Democrats-coalition government.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said before leaving for the Lao People's Democratic Republic that he is paying no attention to an interview that ousted and self-exiled Premier Thaksin Shinawatra gave with the Japanese press, in which Thaksin stated that the Democrat Party was able to form the government because it has received help from the Army and the Privy Council.

While suggesting that such an attack should cause no harm to his administration, Abhisit stated that the people of Thailand are well aware that the current government came into power constitutionally and there is no need for any formal government statement to clarify the issue.

At the same time, the PM urged Thaksin to return to Thailand to fight the corruption charges against him and pledged to carry out all investigations and treat all cases against Thaksin and his supporters under the code of law and the rules of democracy.

Meanwhile, Commander-in-Chief, General Anupong Paochinda declined to comment on ousted Prime Minister Thaksin's claims that the Army Chief has been the puppet of a powerful group.

General Anupong insisted that all his decisions have been based on the interest of Thailand and on righteousness and appropriateness, with no intent to attack anyone.

Democrat Party Chief Adviser, Chuan Leekpai said Thailand has to protect the institutions that have been attacked by Thaksin, particularly the court of justice which is the main institution of the country.

Chuan stated that the court of justice works justly, impartially, and has never been used as a tool for politicians. He added that those who believe the Democrat Party has come to power unlawfully can file a complaint, in line with the legal framework.

The Democrat's chief adviser went on to say that the previous governments had no principles in administering the country. He said shootings and murders occurred almost every day.

He announced that the opposition may have been unable to stabilise since the Democrats came into power, so their grudges have caused them to react like this both inside and outside Parliament.

Deputy Prime minister in charge of national security, Suthep Thaugsuban, stated that Thaksin's comment referred to Thailand's three most important institutes, which could be considered unlawful under several articles in Thai law.

Suthep added that related agencies will scrutinise his interview and will file charges against him, should any of the content of Thaksin's interview be considered illegal. He also commented that the more Thaksin talks, the more tainted he will become.

PM's Office Minister, Sathit Wongnongtoey said Thaksin's movements will not affect the performance of the Democrat-led government. However, he said the movements will add more problems to the country's situation, which has begun to improve.

He insisted that Thaksin's speech was slander against Thailand's important institutes such as the Privy Council and the court of justice.

Sathit believes that if Thaskin chooses to cease his movements, the red-shirt Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship would do so too.

Head of the Office of the Statesman Foundation and close aide of Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda, Vice Admiral Pajun Tamprateep พะจุณณ์ ตามประทีป, said General Prem would not give any significance to or be shaken by Thaksin's comment because none of the privy councillors were involved in the formation of the Democrat-led administration as claimed by the ousted PM.

Vice Admiral Pajun stated that he will allow Thaksin to continue talking until he is broke. Then Thaksin will stop talking.

Ignoring T is by far the best strategy they could have. Its all over for T, all thats left for him to do is talk. Pretty soon, people are just going to stop listening.

  3. Red-shirted people raid Santi Asoke branch in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai - Some 150 red-shirted supporters of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra raided the Chiang Mai branch of Santi Asoke Buddhist sect to hunt for Chamlong Srimuang.

They raided the Phupha Nam Fah Monastery at 1 pm.

They stormed through a police barricade, which was formed 20 metre before the monastery's entrance.

Some 100 elderly people, women, children and Santi Asoke monks gathered at a pavilion and remained in silence during the raid by the angry protesters.

Some monks were standing still and the lay flowers were sitting in meditation without responding the shouts and aggressive acts of the protesters.

Some protesters hit some monks at their shoulders with "feet clappers".

The protesters raided the place following rumours that Chamlong Srimuang, a co-leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, visited the monastery Thursday night.

They dispersed nearly an hour later after searching through the place and did not find Chamlong.

    The Nation

"Hunting" for Chamlong - Hitting monks with Foot clappers. The red shirts are officially a non-entity now. No better way to piss off the silent mass majority of Thais then to start disrespecting monks. The end is near, thank god.

  4. I think the RED will start planning to capture Dusit Hua Hin, and the road between BKK & HH.

I am sure Mark have a back up plan and already book 2nd & 3rd hotel incase the 1st one is deemed in-operatable.

Apparently you are not aware of who owns the Dusit Thani Hua Hin. I'm sure the Reds are very aware, which is why absolutely nothing will happen during ASEAN.

Who own the Dusit Thani? Mark? Thaksin? I really don't know.

I should have been more clear - while Dusit is a publicly traded company, the land all the Dusit hotels are built on are leased from the Crown Property Bureau. Who that group is affiliated with - I'll leave it to you to discern...

  5. So far, after 2 weeks or so, I rate Abhisit's performance a B+. (Would have been an A, but the refusal to allow the UN to see the refugees thing knocks him down a peg). Doing a good job of creating an air of stability, and is such a huge improvement on Samak and Somchai, that I can see him being secure in his position for quite a while.

    Continued good luck Mr. PM.

  6. To jail for...?

Swift fall from grace and prestige for him, whatever the case. Losing his position, and on top of it getting cancer. That's a bad last several months.

He was sentence to 2 years in jail for libel. He lost his first appeal, and has one final appeal left. He'll do a runner before that happens, rest assured. He also is under indictment from the NCCC related to the fire truck procurement scandal, and the Cambodia temple treaty.

He might just beat cancer, but he's a nonentity in every other regard (finally).

  8. As a result of the previous election, many PTV executives have been appointed as members of Parliament and ministers such as the former PM's Office Minister, Jakrapob Penkair, who recently faced a lese majeste charge for his speech at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand last year.

The PTV group ceased broadcast from March 30th onward.

Jakrapob Denies Lese Majeste Charge in Meeting with Police

After two weeks of delay in hearing the charge of lese majeste, former PM’s Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair finally reported to the police this morning.

UPDATE...after no progress with the previous government, his case is finally being processed...

Jakrapob under the prosecution custody on lese majeste charge

Former PM's Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair yesterday reported to public prosecutors to face indictments relating to his remarks deemed offensive to the monarchy on August 2007.

Police have completed the report recommending the prosecution of Jakrapob on a key charge for violating Article 112 of the Criminal Code and placed the suspect under the custody of the Office of the Attorney General during the pre-trial preparations.

If found guilty, Jakrapob will face a prison term ranging from three to 15 years.

He has been accused of offending the monarchy when he made a speech at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand. At the time he was an anti-coup activist.

  9. Protect the King website

You don't find something such as the above slightly disturbing?

It reeks of the histories of certain nearby Asian countries.

There is nothing comparable in any developed Western nation and where there are issues over free speech, there is at least enough of an opposition or pressure group to provide some checks. Here you have a case of laws being used to tread on opposition and no one dare to stand up and push for more freedom because of the nature of the law.

Is it just me, or has this thread run its course. To much breaking of TV Rule#1 going on above, as well.

  10. Coalition sweeps 20 seats: unofficial results

Three coalition partners swept 20 of 29 House seats contested in the by-elections on Sunday according to unofficial results announced by the Election Commission late Sunday night

  12. Govt moves Asean summit to Hua Hin

    By: BangkokPost.com

    Published: 7/01/2009 at 03:39 PM

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced on Wednesday the change of the venue of the 14th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to be hosted by Thailand.

The summit, which was earlier planned to be held in Bangkok, will be moved to the resort town of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan province for security reasons, Mr Abhisit told reporters.

The summit would be divided into two parts, he added.

The first part of the summit will be held from February 27 to March 1, while the second part will be held around the end of April.

The decision came after the anti-government group United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) threatened to block the summit.

  13. I want to know why they set the venue in Huahin. This place does not have good beach, does not have big Buddha Lord statue, does not have great Wat and has nothing special to show representatives of countries attending ASEAN Summit.

The reds until this minutes say that they don't block the Summit but they want to let these countries know that they don't accept Kasit to be Foreign Minister. He was in the PAD protests. Blocking Government House and airports are terrorists' actions.

They don't accept a terrorist in that position.

    Don't be so thick-headed...

There is one reason the Summit will take place in Hua-Hin. A very powerful and a very very smart reason. The red shirt idiots will not dare protest in "his" home. Even they are not that stupid.

Brilliant move by the government, and makes them look like a better and better choice, while the reds just seem be more and more desparate. That money must really be draining away, if Thakky can only afford 30 protesters now (in front of Government House).

Abhisit has what most of our leaders have been lacking for so long. A measure of common sense.

  14. PAD has confronted many government ministers in the South, not once any incident of throwing eggs or anything at them was reported.

And then there's the image of Chuan - he's not Samak or Chalerm who most of the time just ask to be abused back.

You guys argue lack of democracy when here we have lack of civility.

Lack of civility is the issue, and it's not really a partisan one. What's needed in Thailand is a more generous spirit and not the assumption one's opponents are sat pralaat.Abhisit is setting a very good example, and actually it's in tune with the best of Thai culture.Bangkok Pundit makes a good pont.

"The same thing happened to PPP MPs and Ministers who visited the South. They were harassed at the airport on arrival and protesters besieged their hotel or whatever venue they were at for their meeting. Sensibly, in one instance, Abhisit criticised the yellow shirts that were doing this and so should Puea Thai MPs criticise anyone who harasses and impedes Democrat MPs and Ministers from doing their job (this should be applied more strictly to Ministers than out of district MPs). MPs are elected to perform duties and people can protest against them, but this is not a protest, it is harassment. Idiots come in all shapes and sizes and shirt colors."

For once, YH, we are in complete and absolute agreement! :o

  17. Chalerm heads non-parliamentary session

    By: BangkokPost.com

    Published: 5/01/2009 at 10:48 AM

Puea Thai party MP Chalerm Yubamrung said Pracharaj party leader Sanoh Thienthong assigned him to lead the opposition during a non-parliamentary session on Monday at Miracle Grand Hotel, Bangkok.

"I will question the Democrat party's populist policy, which is wrong in terms of financial and monetary regulations. However, they appear to comply when they should be ashamed of themselves. If they want to use this policy, they should know that it was Pol Lt-Col Thaksin Shinawatra’s idea,” said the opposition core member.

If Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva still has the presence of mind and is not being deluded, he should resign so a national government can be formed, according to veteran politician Sanoh.

Puea Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said his party will ask the administrative court to revoke the order for a House session called by House Speaker Chai Chidchob as well as the order to appoint cabinet members because they are against the law.
