  1. It's been known for a while that many people with weakened immune systems can have low antibodies for Covid after two jabs of mRNA, but for many a third jab can give excellent results.
  2. In Chiang Mai the US Consulate just sent a message saying that on September 1-2 there will be walk-in vaccinations for foreigners born 1956 or before at McCormick Hospital - 9-11 AM. Need to register at Wall of Chiang Mai https://www.cm-healthcare.net/CMCVR and bring registration number. They also recommend registering at Expatvac https://expatvac.consular.go.th/index If you do this, be sure to select all photos of passport requested at same time by holding down CTRL, selecting and copying, then pasting everything in the form in one go.
  3. Maybe you should visit the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office (on Suthep Road down from Nimmanhaemin intersection). I did. Although I had registered on Expatvac and Wall of Chiang Mai, there was a problem and after my visit it was corrected and I got the Pfizer jab. If you registered on Wall of Chiang Mai and refused Sinovac and/or AZ, you definitely have to visit them or send an email to [email protected]. The subject line of your email should be “Data Clarification: Surname, Given Name” and you should include the following information in the body of your email: 1. Given name 2. Surname 3. Date of birth (DDMMMYYYY ex. 21Aug1953) 4. 13 digit registration number that you received after registering with the Wall of Chiang Mai system (which should begin with the digits “600”) 5. Passport number 6. Phone number 7. Email Address Do this soon while McCormick is still working through the list of people for the first jab. Good luck.
  4. I was delighted to get a call from Ben. Ironically the last we spoke the subject was Ebola! (2014) I reminded him of this conversation, and told him about some 80+ year-old virologist friends and their activities, such as this: Still active teaching and creating vaccines to this day!
  5. Remember Jo Lho from Malaysia who swindled several billion $ from the country (1MDB)? He went to China several years ago.
  6. Recent thinking in the US is that Delta is deadlier as well as more infectious. This is evident in the increasing hospitalizations of children, some dying in ICU.
  7. If you signed up recently at Chiang Mai Wall, or previously refused an appointment offer from them (for Sinovac/AZ), it's necessary to send an email to be assigned to the Pfizer list. The address is [email protected] The subject line of your email should be “Data Clarification: Surname, Given Name” and you should include the following information in the body of your email: 1. Given name 2. Surname 3. Date of birth (DDMMMYYYY ex. 21Aug1953) 4. 13 digit registration number that you received after registering with the Wall of Chiang Mai system (which should begin with the digits “600”) OR the ID number from your Thai identification card for foreigners (commonly known as a “pink card ”) 5. Passport number 6. Phone number 7. Email Address
  8. Troubles started with a 3-year drought from 1970. Aid bags from America were diverted for sale in provincial markets. Then came the first coup in 1973, then another in 1978 and the Russian invasion in 1979. After the Russians left in 1989, the government which they installed lasted until 1992, when the Tajiks grabbed Kabul and the civil war began. After 3 years of that Kabul looked like a German city after WW2, quite bombed out. So the poor Afghans have really been through 50 years of torment. The Tajiks have now retreated to their stronghold in the Panjshir Valley, and the Taliban are coming. Will it be the end of their warlords?
  9. There was a Thai woman, tourist, going around Afghanistan, so she was trapped in Herat when the city was surrounded. It is very far from Kabul, but only 120 km from the border with Iran at Islam Qala, which was controlled by the Taliban. After Herat fell, some people fled to the border, so maybe she got out then.
  10. 75. When did you register with Chiang Mai Wall? Were you able to upload all required images to the Expatvac website? I got no feedback from Expatvac even though I only succeeded in uploading the latest annual extension of stay.
  11. That is apparently because the Expatvac and Chiang Mai Wall lists are both being used by the CM Regional Public Health Office to make priority lists for McCormick to administer Pfizer.
  12. There was a program about Thai berry pickers in Sweden last May, but the video is unavailable online. That's unusual.
  13. If you are a foreigner living in Chiang Mai, did you receive an email from your embassy about getting jabbed with Pfizer in CM? The American Consulate said to register at Chiang Mai Wall https://www.cm-healthcare.net/CMCVR (in addition to Expatvac) and to send an email to [email protected] with certain details. I posted the complete instructions on the "Expat bad news" thread (Wednesday 7:24PM). I got a response from the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office at 3:40PM today saying that I was added to the list yesterday (when I paid them a visit since my age group was already being jabbed). If you are over 60, even with no problem conditions, you are still in an at risk group, so check the appropriate box (not the box at the bottom which is for under-60s).
  14. I just resent details to [email protected] . This time I got this automated reply: "Thank you for your email to the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office’s COVID-19 Vaccine Center. If you have emailed us because you previously registered in the Wall of Chiang Mai system, previously received an appointment notification for a vaccine and declined to receive that vaccine, or you registered in the Wall of Chiang Mai system after August 17 then we will process your information as soon as possible. The Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office has begun sending out appointment notifications for Pfizer vaccines to non-Thai citizens residing in Chiang Mai who registered for a vaccine and are over 60, have pre-existing conditions, or are more than 12 weeks pregnant. You may receive the notification via phone call, email, or SMS text message. The notification should include information about the date and location for the vaccination. You may only have 24 to 48 hours of advance notice prior to your appointment."
  15. I'm also in the 75 group and didn't get a message from McCormick, either. Unfortunately, I only put my retirement extension on the expatvac registration, since the ctrl selection for photos was not mentioned by anyone until about 3 days after registration started. I have gotten no response since the initial acceptance. Then a few days ago the American Consulate sent a message urging old Americans to register on Chiang Mai Wall (if not already done) and to send a message with registration details to [email protected] . I did this. Did anyone else try this?
  16. The American Consulate in CM sent this message this morning: "Health Alert: Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office has begun sending out appointment notifications for Pfizer vaccines via phone call, email, or SMS message to non-Thai citizens (August 18, 2021)". Then it says that you should register at Chiang Mai Wall if you have not yet done that (even though you registered at expatvac). More: If you declined an appointment from Chiang Mai Wall or registered there after August 17th, you should send email to " [email protected] . The subject line of your email should be “Data Clarification: Surname, Given Name” and you should include the following information in the body of your email: 1. Given name 2. Surname 3. Date of birth (DDMMMYYYY ex. 21Aug1953) 4. 13 digit registration number that you received after registering with the Wall of Chiang Mai system (which should begin with the digits “600”) OR the ID number from your Thai identification card for foreigners (commonly known as a “pink card ”) 5. Passport number 6. Phone number 7. Email Address
  17. This 39% is against infection, which could be aymptomatic. It's still important from the public health standpoint and the reason why CDC in the US is asking vaccinated people to wear masks indoors.
  18. Congratulations. Who would have guessed that any of these alternatives would work.
  19. The problem with India is that the government would not give money to expand capacity at Serum Institute, so they couldn't produce for India and for the Covax contract at the same time. It's a pity that Covax did not think beforehand, investigate what would surely happen when Covid hit India, versus capcity of SII facilities.
  20. So did any images of this pdf show in the window on the registration page?
  21. This is no longer true. Delta has completely changed the picture. We now know that young people can suffer, even die, or get Long Covid. The other problem is that the young can infect some elders whose immunity is not strong in spite of having been vaccinated. I visited Bhutan 3 times and do not remember seeing a hospital. That's a big difference with Thailand.
  22. True, at $3122 it's doing better than India ($1900) and Bangladesh ($1968). Thailand is $7189 as of 2020 (GDP per capita - World Bank).
