  1. However, the owners of H. Y. M International Co., Ltd say that Mr Bender never gave the the diamonds to the customers and instead fled to Chiang Mai in possession of the precious stones.

I know if I had stolen 28 million bahts worth of diamonds i would be leaving the country pronto not moving to Chiang Mai

I doubt any thai jeweller would trust a farang employer with such a sum

    its obviously a fit up

No one just gives 28mn baht worth of diamonds to deliver.

No one. This is a complete stitch up.

There's a guy I know from NYC, he moves large amounts of diamonds around the world for DeBeers.

In the jewelry industry, it is common to give something on a signature. Since their Israeli and involved in the diamond industry, they're probably Jewish, and that's a tight community. If he put the squeeze on someone, he'll never be trusted again.

Keep in mind, there are enough diamonds in the world for everyone to have at least a carat. The value is high because the market is controlled. Diamonds only have a perceived value, and the people in the industry know it.

  2. Its amazing just how balanced (unbitter) he is about the whole thing -- you get used to reading people ranting on here about the loss of half of a 2nd hand car when their marriage & relationship with their children is falling apart.

I do hope that shinning the spotlight on it once again (his case has been aired here before ---links to YouTube etc) gives him some help.

I have mentioned it before---its not fool proof but where are your (ownership papers) Chanuk--- its a lot more difficult to be cheated if they are in a safe deposit box, (or even with a friend)

It means new papers have to be applied for at land office----the loss has to be reported to the police--affidavit signed at land office .....etc ...etc.

Fraud occurs worldwide and is not only in Thailand. All important papers should be kept in a safe deposit box as oxo1947 posted. Never invest all of your eggs in one basket...diversify. Inspect what you expect at all times. Be prudent in your business matters and keep your money and investments in areas in which you have full control. Keep much of your money outside of Thailand or anywhere else you may have retired to.

Most of all, never invest more than you can afford to lose, both economically and emotionally.

One simple addition Thailand can do in regard to transfer of ownership of property is to:

    1) Use fingerprints along with signatures

    2) Have insured and government approved Title companies handle all purchases and transfers and that they be considered liable under any fraud.

Simpletons run a muck here. Simple solutions, not so much...

  3. Shame on you EU. All talk no action.

Its good for Thailand, so good for us. I don't understand your rant.

Why is it that what's good for Thailand, always seems to be something really bad for someone else? Do you enjoy knowing slaves work on Thai boats? Are you proud of this rich cultural history? Yeah, there's a reason me no unstan thainiss.

  4. Is this guy for real? The very worst kind of le#der [a total xenophobe] for a country that is trying to develop and move forward. 'We welcome help, advice, and expertise from around the world to help solve our many problems', should be the way to go.

Sadly, here,...common sense, isn't that common.

  5. Ummm, ground control to space cadet. Come in space cadet....

Pay the teachers well, get rid of the visa problems, create a culture where people want to help you.

    Nope!

As long as you have a system where you have 55 students crammed into one room, everyone is copying off everybody else.

There is so much noise not only in the classroom but in the hallways that one must use a portable loudspeaker and still the students that want

    to learn cannot hear you.

What has to change is the behaviour of the students. They don't care, they know they will pass no matter what.

Admin doesn't care to help unless the students are a part of the EP program because those parents paid therefore said students are considered more valuable.

You can pay the teachers a million baht a month, but this culture still won't want you because you are not Thai and you actually don't belong here.

The more you make the more resentment it generates from the educated Thai professional vs the uneducated native speakers.

Equality is where it's at. If you want to live and work here, then there should be no visa special requirements, but you do earn what the others earn.

No Thai teacher in the US or UK is going to make 2 or 3 times what an American or Brit makes just for being a native speaker.

Equality is the key. We should be able to live here, we should have no visa issues, we should have a "green" card to pay our share of the taxes.

Stop comparing wages in the west to those here, that makes you a temp or substitute and you really can't be taken seriously.

My statements were to be taken as chapters in a book. The key details are in the chapters.

Re: The more you make, the more resentment it generates from the educated Thai professional vs the uneducated native speaker.

Whew! Where in the world do come up with this?

First, lets take the word, 'educated'. I haven't met many 'educated' people, Thai or otherwise, who resent someone because of their income. If they do, they might be educated, but they aren't balanced properly in the cranium.

Second, your argument re: 'educated Thai professionals vs uneducated native speakers' doesn't hold water. The educated Thai professionals, for the most part, got their education in the west. You know, that place where you can't buy a degree...

Third, I didn't make any salary comparisons. You pulled that rabbit out of your.....hat?

You can now return to your regularly scheduled programming. Chok dee.

  6. i think everyone should read the review's on this place before commenting,2out of 3 that i read, cheated, very very unfreindly.

the first being 2yrs.ago must have been a bad yr.for them.

“A mixed experience, one that will take me some time to get over”

Please read this review from Sara, an Australian who stayed there with her two children in June 2015, she ended up getting arrested too, the owner is obvious big time mafia in Phuket and controls the corrupted Patong police. bah.gif

Nobody goes out of their way to write a review like this with out great reason. The court of public opinion has spoken. thumbsup.gif

  7. There needs to be a totalitarian dictatorship in one area of Thailand. Education. Hire one from Singapore not Cambridge. One does not need to be a brain trust. Rote learning over and over again learn 100 English words and when that is done learn another 100. Over and over again speak English. Forget the grammar lessons. Speak and understand. Speak with the mouth and understand with computer games in English. Forbid anyone who can't speak and understand at least 200 words in English from teaching.

It is basic. Teach with rote learning until the basics are taught. India and the Philippines get all the outsourced English help lines both countries could supply English speaking teachers for Thai prices.

This is Asia not America. Cheap English teachers are available from native English speakers in Asia.

Indians and Philipinos, working under a totalitarian dictatorship? I can't see it.

Rote learning? The brain of a child works at a different frequency than that of an adult. Their like sponges, soaking up everything they can find. At this stage of life you need lots of language input, and the development and use of the imagination. You need other things, too. Rote learning creates lifeless drones and gives control to those in power.

  8. Ahh, a new twist...

Our scams are now retroactive, with police support of course.

One more nail in the tourist coffin, Thailand. At least you've found some degree of consistency.

and you write this without even knowing if they are guilty or innocent of leaving without paying their bill?

Considering the history and the quarry, it looks like another squeeze play.

Food for thought; the way people are scrutinized when they leave Makro, Big C and other stores, with a 15k bill, do you really think the restaurant didn't have an eye on the table?

  9. In perspective, 500 convictions/dismissals. ok that is 1/3 of the charged... over 5 years is 100 per year... how many on the force total? what percent is that? Still too many IMO.

In the US there are a lot of dirty cops, immigration, border patrol, corrections officers, etc. People do bad things and just because they wear a badge doesn't mean they are any different.

McDonalds workers to postal employees to cops to judges to lawyers to doctors to corp exec to..... ALL dirty. I'm betting half of the people on TV have done something dirty in their past or career...

    Just sayin....5555

In the US, the corruption starts a bit higher up the food chain. There's a 'I have a badge' mentality, but they are usually honest about money.
