  1. And all Brits are <deleted>? Neither is true. I find most taxi drivers to be just fine and very nice, but there's a few bad apples in every bunch.
  2. To all of you who are piling on with endless criticism and complaining about her "xenophobia" and supposed bias, how many of you have ever lifted a finger to do anything about the world or for the greater good besides sit in your chair, at your keyboard, or at your local pub and complain? At least she's trying, and her intentions are without fault. She knows what she's doing, the issues she's pointing to are valid and sound for the most part well informed, in spite of all your comments to the contrary. I was an activist in the US when I was young, and did nowhere near the amount of work this young lady has done for her cause. She's trying to give voice to those who would be silenced. She's trying to take care of her own, get everyone their due, just as any and every one of you would do if you had 1% of her ambition and motivation. God bless her.
  3. God bless her heart for her dedication and activism, on top of being a wife and mother.
  4. She sounds like she knows what she's talking about. Do you? For you to compare anyone at all to Trump shows your viewpoint to be grotesquely warped.
  5. When is anyone gonna "wake up" and realize that no one ever "wakes up"?
  6. From the wreckage it doesn't look like seatbelts would have helped much.
  7. In a word, no. The perception of Brits or others remains the same no matter what. A country that derives most of its income from tourism is never going to discourage foreigners from entering. The only thing that I imagine might change is medical insurance requirements, but those are already in place for certain types of visas like the O-A. But it's doubtful that such insurance requirements would cover major unforeseen catastrophes like this one. If anything, hopefully, stories like this will encourage people to be sure of their own coverage. It certainly gives me pause, although I have a substantial emergency savings fund, which I don't touch, of about 350,000 baht available if needed. Otherwise I actually make very little, about 50,000 baht per month. And I don't drive or own a motorbike.
  8. I'm sorry if I embarrassed you, I know that math isn't everyone's best subject
  9. I'm with you. I've ridden Harleys and big bikes in the US for decades, never more than a couple minor fender benders, one was a car door opened when I SLOWLY passed a stopped vehicle, I swerved in time but she took out my signal light, the other was a drunk driver bumped me from behind at a traffic light while stopped, crushing the fender. I avoided accidents because I anticipate what may happen in any circumstance, but other than rentals in very small safe towns here I would not ride here. Opposite side of the street from the US right side is a big factor as to my reflexes. I'm not about to try to second guess drivers in a densely populated Thai city. If I did drive here I would make sure as to my insurance. Even without riding here I keep an emergency fund of $7,000 to $10,000 (238,000 to 340,000 baht) US to cover any disasters that might occur. I've kept that fund ever since I first set foot here in 2013. I also have a decent sized retirement mutual fund I could tap if things were worse. Lastly, I'm not going to be so arrogant as to single Thailand out, there are crazy murderous drivers everywhere, and in the US half the time guns get involved. I feel bad for the guy, and I'm not going to judge or preach, nobody expects such outcomes and it's easy to think you're prepared for emergencies only to find out the hard way that your preparations were inadequate. It looks as if he will be fine with those donations coming in. I wish him the best, and I hope all of you can take this experience to heart and learn from it. Cheers.
  10. Actually, "Hahahahahahaha" would be 5555555 (5x7) 555!
  11. You think people are going to just "wake up"? What exactly does that mean anyway? That the world shall change according to your or someone else's opinions? Your comment is neither practical nor constructive. I suggest you not run for prime minister.
  12. Isn't that the definition of the teachings of many religions including Christianity (old testament such things as punishments for certain things) , barbaric and primitive? If things weren't barbaric and primitive where would the fun be in most religions
  13. As an experienced motorcycle rider of many decades, safety begins and ends with the driver. 99% of accidents are avoidable. It's quite sad that so many riders here give little or no thought to basic riding skills, only to having fun and partying.
  14. Why do I get the feeling that you don't "fork out cash" to very many people, needy or not? I guess being dumb or ignorant and making mistakes is a crime punishable by death. Me, if someone is in need, I don't judge them for their mistakes if they are otherwise not inherently bad people. There are plenty of truly bad people in the world worthy of scorn.
  15. This happens everywhere, not just in Thailand, in spite of "official" policies. There was a guy Jeffrey Epstein who, in spite of being a billionaire, was neglected just long enough in a NY jail for the exact thing to happen. So get off your high horses people, Thailand is making slow progress in many areas, it exceeds the rest of the world in many other areas, and I imagine that it's in the country's best interest to look into its policing practices, and I'm betting they will. This kind of thing is liable to hurt tourism. Ya think? Meanwhile here's a guy in the prime of his youth, one night of drunkenness and bad behavior, and in a drunken fog ends it all. He will never have a chance to learn and rise above the misbehavior of his youth. May he rest in peace. Remember, he's the one who committed suicide, he was not abused in any way, the police were negligent in not taking precautions, but were not directly responsible. Now there is nothing to be done except hope the police will learn, and that any dereliction of duty is properly addressed and publicized.
  16. I've never had any problems accessing CCTV footage anywhere. Maybe they just didn't like you.
  17. Many wore masks before covid, but yes, that's a good thing
  18. Reasons why girls shouldn't go to strangers' apartments alone at night # 5,267
  19. The writer being Thai, maybe she doesn't know the fine distinction between English terms, perhaps she thought that getting tied up was akin to kidnapping or abduction. In the US we would call that unlawful imprisonment, even when no one has actually been imprisoned, only prevented from moving freely fits that definition.
  20. Well I see that you're here to argue, but I'm not going to it to you. Nor am I going to go any further into the subject. I've got more important things to do and more positive things to think about.
  21. Yes I do. You know, you could answer your own questions if you were motivated enough to do some online research. Most countries have reasonably aggressive immigrant policies. I'm from the US and the things they do to immigrants there are horrendous - taking little kids away from their parents, deporting the parents without keeping track of where they go, and keeping the children warehoused in chain link cages. They are still trying to unite families that were separated under Trump in 2017 - 2020. No health care is provided and children have died from such things as the flu, migrants have been shot and beaten to death by ICE guards.
