What do they know that we don't ?

They discovered the secret plot by the Chinese to wipe out mankind and destroy the world economy with a bioengineered virus. Happy now? Ok, facts. They know exactly what you and everyone else knows. That there are 45 cases. Out of a population of 70 million. That's .000064% of the Thai population. How many cases in your home country if you're not from here? They are acting out of fear and paranoia. You know paranoia, right? It't what you have in place of common sense and reason. There have been 16,000 deaths from the flu so far in the US this season. Shall the world declare a quarantine on the US?

If you have a good lawyer you would make sure that is was. You would let them check CCTV too. Check the persons finances to see if he gets payments above his normal salary.

CCTV should conclusively show whether the bag was tampered with at the airport, assuming no one tampers with CCTV. Otherwise it's quite possible the guy was stupid enough to knowingly have that bullet. People will pick up and take just about anything as a "souvenir". I once saw a dumbass stoner backpacker get stopped at security because he had an empty shell casing minus the bullet, clueless as to why it was a bad idea.

Makes me think he was set up because he was black, just saying, you know how immigration don't like blacks apart from farangs, just saying, yes I know, paranoia lurkes.

You know this is Thailand, not America, right? No historical cottage industry of racism and lynching against blacks here. The trouble here is, no it didn't "make you think". Your statement reeks of ignorance, there is no "thinking" involved. Now here's your chance to actually "think": "Think" about how stupid your statement sounds,  and how ignorant it makes you look. Do you find yourself falling back on the phrase "just saying" every time you know you've said something you know is idiotic?

I am not a navy person. But if the engine fails, the sails don't work? Am I missing something?

I'm not a "navy person" either, but it doesn't take a genius to know that sailboats are at the mercy of wind direction and strength - that's why they DUH! have engines as backup. If winds are not favorable you won't get where you wanna go. I can't believe how many people here are so stupid as to not know that most basic and common sense fact.

Why not take the 1 million and then say, "Sorry, we don't accept bribes!!  Lock him up!!!"

I'm sure they will take everything from his house......plus have him politely tell them his bank account information.   He's definitely not cash poor.......

1 mil confiscated as "evidence". Perfectly legal. Cops have done it in the US ever since there were drug dealers.

  6.  still promoting the false belief that off the shelf facemasks are effective. Viruses are infinitessimally small, little bigger than the thin strand of a DNA or RNA molecule they contain. Masks will not filter them. Anyone who paid attention in a high school science class should know this. Anyone who reads accurate qualified news on the subject knows this. Additionally, these viruses are spread through hand contact with surfaces or other peoples hands or bodies, not though the air, unless someone sneezes right at you.  But monkey see monkey do carries more weight than actual fact

  8. Face masks won't do squat. It's just something officials can pretend is a good public service posture, something to calm the people and avert panic. Like just saying "don't panic". Even if the titanic is sinking, don't panic. These viruses are spread by peoples hands and the surfaces they touch. A mask cannot filter anything as small as a virus. So the washing of hands is the only effective advice

if someone complained about my second language ability, for example my french, and especially if i was using that language in order to be successful in business, i'd work hard to improve my language skills. that would be common sense/good business sense, wouldn't it?!

How do you know how hard they have worked at it? Do you speak an Asian language of any sort? You think it's easy?

Is this for real? Experts in the study of clothes? This place gets weirder by the minute . . . ????

This is exactly what any developed country would do in an investigation of this sort. So yes, there are "experts in the study of clothes" and just about any and every thing that may reveal clues. If you have enough space between your ears to further your education you might actually read a few crime stories as well as read about the FBI's investigational techniques. Clothes can be analyzed as to manufacture, where sold, as well as styles of dress can fit established criminal profiles. If his dress style stood out it also makes him identifiable by witnesses as well as easy to spot in video. You know, it's never too late to go back to school, I think you'd find it useful. although there is one school in Thailand I wouldn't recommend

I'm used to making a fool of myself so I will have a go at stating what I find wrong ????

The motive changes by the hour, was it a "hit", did he do it for the money as he was in debt, or did he do it for the "thrill", jealousy was a part? regardless - he then went calmly out that night for a meal!

DNA, do the 'Police" now have a mobile testing lab, if so where is it accredited? Sweat sample, murder, carnage, chaos, lots of people, yet this newly established unit managed to match sweat samples from the perp, given their history with all things criminal & DNA, I can't help but wonder?

Good points, but one also wonders about the caliber of the "journalists" writing this. I know from personal experience that it means more to make a slick sounding story than to be sure of the facts

People can't be allowed to be this stupid. We all must know and understand how are immigration issues are addressed and processed. I for one have never used an agent for anything including a 90 day. By doing it myself I learn about the process and understand any issues that may arise.

Amen. How stupid, lazy, or irresponsible can you be to ignore such common sense as you stated. I studied all of this EXTENSIVELY before I got involved. After a while I stopped listening to what foreigners told me, or the different things stated in forums like this,  and simply went to the immigration offices to ask them in person, and mostly they were very clear and helpful. I handled my retirement visa myself, although I didn't understand everything they did at first, switching my tourist visa to a temporary non immigrant visa of some sort and 2 weeks later giving me the retirement visa. I think I was charged a fee of 1190 baht twice for both visas. I like traveling around here anyway and so such trips are always enjoyable to me, because I make it that way. The Bangkok office in Chaengwatthana has lots of young trainees going around the waiting area and making sure everyone was sorted out. Nice, smiling, helpful kids, although the clerks were someone dour and overworked, understandably.

So .... those of you who have gone through 'agents' - is your stamp real and proper?

Won't you be a little worried when a real immigration officer has a look through your passport?

    Is it worth the risk?

They have now arrested an officer at CW - how deep will this go? and if your extension/visa was processed by the same guy, then there may be a knock on your door. ????

    Good luck to you all.

I wouldn't trust any "agent" other than an established and well known law firm such as Siam Legal, whom I've consulted on such matters. It's not worth the risk of deportation and prosecution and possible banishment. I will do everything myself as I did with my retirement VISA, and if I need to I'd use Siam Legal and pay them the $800(US) legal fee, which is reasonable and modest in the overall scheme of things.

A 400K would have been enough for his marriage visa which is actually a small amount for Americans.

I have seen an increase in the number of foreign students 'learning Thai' on education visa just to stay in Thailand.

Guess he will also join the queue.

What Americans are you talking about? Are you one? 400,000 baht $13,000 US is not chump change to be parked forever in a useless account. I am (sensibly) using the 65,000 baht per month income option for my retirement visa. The rest of my funds are invested and generating dividends as well as capital gains.

Yes, the taste is far different. There is an Indian Club in BKK Soi Nana called Bad Shah, their "coyotes" really are canines.

With all the screeching about the Pattaya sex industry pro and con, perhaps this business plan would be better served by repurposing some of the now less frequented venues in the more shady area.

Use a compass or read maps much? Badshah is not in Soi Nana, but further down on Soi 4 across from a normal lively pub.

No i have never been to Nana complex in Bangkok

but you misunderstanding my comment, i am not talking about

the noise created by the establisments themselves, but more than

the noise of the drunk customers shouting on the parking area

    a sort of collateral damage.

Out of curiosity how works Nana plaza in Bangkok?

I have heard from differents sources from the last months

it was pretty calm and not far to die

Go there, dummy. Don't ask us, see for yourself. Nana is well managed with tight security
