  1. google "DTA US and Thailand english"....article 20/21 tells one what is taxable only by the US unless one is a Thai native that gets a US pension
  2. well as a US cit, the thai rd will not get any info on my credit card usage and I certainly will not provide any either.
  3. Yes, I have been hearing this same story from many different forum users. I have a civil service pension and an LTR so I am exempt from getting a TN and from filing and will not do anything different unles the Thai govt Finance or Revenue Dept puts out this change officially as it would be a change and should be published in the Gazette. Then I would follow whatever but I also believe that the reason we are seeing such little information from the govt offices involved is because they are having problems getting a complete agreement from too many of the power people here. Initially I kept reading about how they wanted expats and foreigners to be added to the tax base and pay taxes but then those comments disappeared and at least one of the local tax attorneys indicated that there was some dissension among the people trying to get a new tax law system i.e. negative income tax, worldwide income tax, etc...MY opinion only so far but hope we see something soon.
  4. wrong, where is the source of ALL foreigners MUST obtain a TN and file a return if over 179 days incountry.
  5. jUst had an American friend and has a state pension, not civil service so I advised him if he was concened about it to go to the RD local office in CM which he did and they asked him about his pension and if he paid taxes on it already which as an Amrerican we must pay our taxes always and the rd rep there told him that he therefore doesn't have assessable income so he doesn't need an ID number nor does he have to file taxes. Just saying as we keep hearing this same story from different rd local reps.
  6. and I imagine the women prefer a slender or athletic looking male too that doesn't get wasted every day on alcohol or pot.
  7. I can' speak for All Americans today but from what I read on the news and chats with family and friends in the US, almost every single one says they do not agree with the changs brought about mostly from Dem local leaders to decriminalize the below a 1000 dollar limit on theft/shop lifting. This seems to me have resulted from the BLM riotinng which then led to gang-storming department stores to steal merchandise and when police arrivve they could only catch a very few so most escaped with their minor amounts of merchandise. What results is if able to still get insurance, the cost zooms, many stores end up having to go out of business, costing jobs of innocent folks caught in the middle. But, there aren't enough joils to arrest all these criminals. Regular folks if they have a job can't afford to buy a house or move to a better neighborhood. Many folks are also being replaced by AI that these same folks created! A lot of unhappy people out there, and even more incentive to remain here in Thailand.
  8. I continue to be amazed daily at these back and forth arguments about what the Thai RD/finance ministry/govt here will change or alter the taxation in Thailand. This IMHO is to as they have said many times is to widen the tax base including foreign tax residents as well as the majorit of Thai workers who do not pay taxes or at least do not file tax forms. It seems to me that everyone is anxious to spout some kind of changes but these as we all should realize are just opinions based on what we have been able to read on the revenue department webpage, tax agent webinars, speeches by govt officials, finance officials and RD officials and from what I have heard/read is that it still is anyone's possible opinion as it appears too many powerful people still do not agree totally what it should be. At the same time, if one reads any international tax situations then they will note that many countries at this same time are changing their tax laws too and in some cases really affecting tax residents and in other cases bending over backwards almost to keep retirees in their countries or insearch of potential retirees. Here in the land of TIT so anything could come out of this. While the govt wants to become members of all international groups i.e BRICS, OECD, CRS, FATCA, etc who know what this govt will do or if this govt will fade away and something entirely different might appear. Currently, the best thing for all is too be prepared for whatever YOUR worst case might be so at least no matter what happens YOU will be ready to either move or pay up or sit back and relax for the next act that could follow. I though, from the various tax messages on this forum for the past couple of years am now fully prepared for whatever comes, I have learned a lot from many different people and thanks to all of them who did some research and gave us the source so that we could understand more clearly what could come about. I also now know I can totally relax due to visa and DTA of the US -Thailand type. I fully understand why so many still have no idea how they will be affected because there are too many variables due to number of different countries, languages, financial situations, etc. BUT until the final GAZETTE article appears, everythinig is a GUESS so worry is just about useless prepares for that very worst resulting tax change. I do wish the best of luck and planning for everyone, expat or native.
  9. Dr. William Li, Harvard Doctor and researcher of benefitial foods, especially when fighting diseases says thateating modest amounts of fruits actually dcreases weight gain and combats obesity. Fruit fiber he says feeds the gut micobiome, helping the health defense to improve your blood glucose utilization and overall metabolism - and also lower tridlycerides and total cholesterol. Eat healthy!
  10. well just generally speaking, I also receive just about daily, a news letter from Nomad Capitalist. Since the OECD agrreement in 2023 plus the different stories aobut CRS and FATCA, stories of tax-related stories from different countries with changes affecting expats, immigrants, multiple passports, tax residency, banking changes, visa changes, et al seem to be on the increae evey week! TIT and you can bet we will see some more changes too. Good luck to all and prior to any international moves do some deep probing of what goes on at some other location.
  11. I did my transfers last Feb (2024) in CM and didn't need any bank statement or passboolk statement or oher paper statement., only the transfer of visas form from immigration.
  12. that should depend on whether or not you have assessable income. Many users here have visited local trd offices for a tax id but learn that they don't actually have assessble income and the office doesn't issue a tax id as not tax forms are needed to be filed.
  13. what is the confusion about? from all the different weinars of tax agents as well as TRD officials, I do believe the current tax situaion has been way overdone based on the repititions of so much data. If you haven't figured it out yet, just google the Thailand Revenue Dept website in English and read for yourself, then you can make your own guess. htpps://www.rd.go.th/english
  14. concept similar to "preventive maintanance" or workman or delivery date and time for your residence problem or purchase.
  15. We'll see, just like the initial Mexican and Canada claims or payback tariffs prior to calling Trump and actually agreeing to a more active participation in border control. We'll see as the public will not rest if they continue to see the hordes arriving at the gates...
  16. Yessir, the whole problem with fentanyl and the other dangerous drugs is all due to the IDIOTS that use them, not just pushers and sellers, if there were not so many stupid people out and about that use drugs for whatever reason and continue to ruin so many lives. IMHO pushers/sellers should get the death penalty or the very least lifetime prison with no chance of parole - plus should be a work prison so that the inmate doesn't get any benefits except food for work completed.
  17. Yeah the US banks closing accounts hit mine 5 years ago.
  18. yeah he recently said that if the BRICS try to remove the dollar as the go to currency for inter transfers then he would put a 100% tariff on all BRICS countries. Should be interesting anyway.
  19. but, not cheap, but US govt employees can keep their govt sponsored health insurance into retirement. GOvt picks up almost 2/3 of the cost of the insurance but still that 1/3 is not very cheap but also all existing health issues remain covered around the world.
  20. wrong in that while I was on a retirement O for 20 years, I now have an LTR - cost effective and better benefits, less papework for ME anyway as my financial and health insurance issue is really simple and takes care of me an my family.
  21. Yessir mentioning how great a negotiator he was for Afghanistan, look at that country today - back to the stone ages! He just gave in to the Taliban as he knew he would be out of office by the time the US troops had to leave. Hope the world can survive for the next 4 years until hopefully someone more qualified for that office is elected.
  22. as much as I am surprised and probably others too, so far those tariffs seem to be working as both Mexico and Canada while expressing their promises to counter "tariff" they appear to be making some initial efforts to respond positively to methods to help stop the practices at the border. Same with Colombia one the immigrants, and Panama on the Agreement with CHina about the canal use. I don't agree with everything that Trump promises to do but much better than Biden and Co.
  23. For anyone with local banks, especially Bangkok Bank. I know in december, that Kasicorn Bank sent out forms CRS and FATCA or their customers and said that it was mandantory to fill out and return the forms to the bank. Has anyone with other local banks been informed about these international banking exchange systems? just wondering as from what I have read about the systems, ALL international banks are affected and have to coordinate with their customers.
  24. Most big US banks have already done that - began with FATCA and my bank BOA closed my acct that I had for over 50 Years! fortunately, the State Department Credit Union (bank) opened an account for me with credit cards etc and for 5 years i have had outstanding service. I send my annuity payment to them and then send whatever to my BKK bank and 1day service each time. One does not have to be a US govt employee or State Department member - they just ask that a prospective customer join one of a long list of organnizations in the US. I join American Citizens Abroad (ACA) and so far all seems well. The US Congress/Trump are changing some taxes on Social Security folks (dropping tax on seniors) and more changes I think on double taxation avoidance. Since I am not impacted by either of those (YET maybe) I haven't paid much attention to them. But for anyone that is dropped due to lack of a US mailing address/phone number, contact "sdfcu.org". Good luck. For other countries doing the closing of accounts, suggest you go on line (google or elsewhere) and query any banks in your area that will open accts without your address there. What will happen eventually, is some kind of penalty for folks using a friend's or relative's address as most countries now seem to be delving more and more into expats' locations reported. Just saying, and only hope all expats are not just dropped without any legal options out of that situation.
  25. yeah, shelved Canada afte Trudeau spoke with Trump and probably sending troops to the border area and Mexico after the Mexican govt sent military to block the immigrants going to the US. China - who knows what they are up but I also read that Panama is trying to break the long-term agreement with China and the use by China of the canal. Just saying, I am not a fan of useless tariffs, any price increases due to the tariffs, only means consumers don't have to buy those products. To buy many products from other countries, usually means that someone in the US could not producce the same quality product at a better price. My opinion anyway. and I have never been a fan of Trump nor of Biden and any Democrat.
