  1. Well, I don't know about the cash crop of the future but I grow them successfully for our own enjoyment.

The Pak Chong agricultural station has a small grove and they might help if you ask nicely.

Collecting seeds is a risky proposition because most seedlings will be male and there is no way of identifying the females until they flower.(5/6 years )

What you want is a large ratio of females to one male, females are obtained by removing shoots from mature trees.

In Thailand drying the dates is problematic, start thinking about a solar food drier.

    Two pictures for you:

Young Medjool dates from earlier this year, male and female flowers side by side.

    good luck !

Fascinating. The humidity has caused you no Fungal problems? Is the humidity the reason they are difficult to dry?Or plain and simple, not hot enough?

The fruit matures in August/Sept. when is quite rainy. Drying them to bring out the sweetness is the biggest challenge.

Other than that not too many problems, Need to watch out for ants when the dates start maturing.

    The trees themselves are fine.

See the ripe fruit bellow, extra super yummy !!!

    regards

Any chance of buying some of them yummy date of yours?? I have a soft spot for this fruits from way back but buying them locally is at premium,

  2. Hi,

The time has come to consider employing a new guard company at our Sukhumivt Rd. condo,

the current one has grown to be too comfortable and inept in fulfilling their responsibilities,

As a dominant Committee member i care very mush whom we entrust our security and property with, and yes,

i know that there are many of them out there and at the end of the day they are the same but

with a different name but never the less, I'm hoping that someone will be able to suggest a gourd

company he or she are happy with from first hand experience and save us the hassle of interviewing

endless companies that promises the world but very light on substance,

Worth mentioning that we are a modest condo with a modest and fair budget for the right gourd company,

    Thanks,

    BUYERS BEWARE,

Extra Virgin Olive Oil Labeling Class Action Lawsuit

If you spend extra money on so-called "extra virgin" olive oil, there's a good chance you didn't get what you paid for. Our firm is investigating a recent UC Davis study which found that more than two-thirds of common brands of extra virgin olive oil failed to meet internationally accepted standards. Popular varieties marketed by Bertolli, Pompeian, Carapelli, Mezzetta, and Mazola are just some of the brands that failed the UC Davis tests.

As a result of the mislabeling found in this study, thousands of U.S. consumers may have paid a premium price for a substandard olive oil. Even worse, these phony extra virgin olive oils could pose a serious health risk to people with allergies, as the study found that many were blended with cheaper canola, seed or nut oils.

We are currently investigating a possible class action lawsuit against the companies responsible for this deception. If you believe you purchased olive oil that was incorrectly labeled as “extra virgin” or would like to learn more about our investigation, please contact us today for a free consultation.

    Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin is the highest grade of olive oil, according to standards set by the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the International Olive Council, an international, intergovernmental organization that deals with issues involving olives and olive oil. The council, established by the United Nations, includes countries that produce 98 percent of the world’s table olives and olive oil.

The United States is not a member of the council; however olive oil produced in the U.S. must meet recently adopted USDA olive oil standards, which closely correspond to the international standards and will go into effect on Oct. 25, 2010. The standards include specifications for the grades of extra virgin, virgin, refined olive oil and olive oil.

Extra virgin olive oil can be adulterated by mixing extra virgin with cheaper refined oils such as hazelnut oil or with a cheaper refined olive oil, making the adulteration more difficult to chemically detect.

For some time now, many have suspected that much of the extra virgin olive oil marketed in the U.S. was anything but that. The UC Davis study, the first of its kind by an American academic institution, provides the first empirical proof of this deception.

UC Davis Extra Virgin Olive Oil Study

For their landmark study, researches at UC Davis purchased 14 imported brands and five California-produced brands of olive oil that were being sold as extra virgin at retail stores in California. Three bottles of each imported brand and two bottles of each California brand were sent to the Australian Oils Research Laboratory in New South Wales, where the oils were put through sensory and chemical tests specified by the international Olive Council and also were analyzed using methods adopted in Germany and Australia. Chemical analyses also were conducted at the UC Davis Olive Oil Chemistry Laboratory, in most cases using bottles with the same lot numbers as those tested in Australia.

The research team found that 69 percent of the imported oils sampled and 10 percent of the California-produced oils sampled failed to meet internationally accepted standards for extra virgin olive oil.

Of the following brands, every sample failed to meet the extra virgin olive oil standards:

    Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    Carapelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    Mezzetta Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    Mazola Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Other samples of extra virgin olive oil brands such as Filippo Berio, Colavita, Newman's Own Organics, Safeway Select, and 365 Everyday Value, were also found to not meet the international extra virgin olive standards.

According to the study, the defective samples failed the extra virgin standards for one or more of these reasons:

    oxidation due to elevated temperature, light and or aging;

adulteration with cheaper refined olive oil; and

poor-quality oils made from damaged and overripe olives, processing flaws or improper oil storage.

The study also revealed that the analytical chemistry methods established by the International Olive Council and the USDA often do not detect defective oils that fail extra virgin sensory standards. On the other hand, the chemistry methods used in Australia and Germany were more effective in confirming negative sensory tests, the study found.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil Labeling Class Action Lawsuit

Countless U.S. consumers may have paid far too much for an inferior olive oil that was mislabeled extra virgin. If you were among them, you may be entitled to compensation. 5. I"m doing up a new Condo in Bkk and looking for a source to buy a number of framed or otherwise posters and pictures mainly of art deco or retro subjects,

They can be ordered from overseas but at an extra cost

of shipping and maybe some duties.

    Thanks,

  6. Hi,

I live in a hi-rise condominium building in one of the soi in middle of Sukhuvit Rd. Bkk

Right next to us they have started putting up a new hi rise condominium that is way to close

to ours, about 10-12 meters apart from one exterior to the opposite one,

My query is, according to building code in Thailand, what is the minimum permissible distance between two residential buildings allowed in Bkk? or maybe there isn't any laws governing

such blatant disregard to people comfort zone and privacy, not to mentioned a drop in resale

value for such property now being blocked by another monstrosity,

  7. open a new bank account in Thailand and send your friend the ATM card. Then fill up the bank account with the amount you wish to give him , he will just take it out of any ATM in the Phils. Charges should be 100 baht + exchange commissions only.

Thanks, that could be a good idea if the receiver were a close family member,

I was looking for more on-line arrangements, like using credit cards or Pay-pal.

  8. Hi,

I use to send money to my friend in the Philippines using xoom people but now they have stopped

their service and i had to do it with Western union having to go to one of their brunches,

Is there any other similar service that one can send money worldwide, online, using PayPal

or credit cards? ( except western union)

    Thanks,

  9. Happened to walk into a Honda dealer in Melbourne and saw top of the line, current model Crv,

manufactured in Thailand going for anywhere between AUD $ 40,000 to $ 45,000 depend on the paint job,

Here in Bkk, the same car will cost you 1.4 million ++ with the current exchange rate

    it translate to AUD $ 47,000 +

What gives? are we missing something here?

I've been down this road before except in the case of UK prices which are similar by comparison to the price differentials you note in Australia - exchange rates play a significant role in accounting for the disparity, try doing the calculation again using exchange rates that are not so Aussie favorable.

    STILL,

Which ever you look at that and blame exchange rates for the ridiculous prising structure it is still incoperahansable

to accept that a motor vehicle that was manufactured from scratch 100 km from my home will cost more than

in another country 10,000 km away.

  11. If you have time to fool with it, I think you could successfully put XP on that model HP--to judge by some postings on the web. If you fail, can't you put Vista back on?

I hate Vista as well, so anybody who wants to get rid of it has my sympathy. I have XP on all my boxes and it runs and looks great. So, here's help.

There's a great thread here about installing XP on your model:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/insta...ta-on-hp-laptop

Here's a youtube video, has drivers. Author says:

i was fixing this laptop for a friend and he didnt like vista... soo i re-formatted the hp and put xp.... but hp drivers for xp didnt work... soo now i had to go do some weird shit to ge them

now that i got them im giong to share them... these are all the drivers youll ever need

maybe it will help someone trying to get out of vista.. i hate hp.. but their hard ware is awsome.. just their programing skills suck balls... oh no sound in the video so dont adjust your speakers..

Cd that i made with all the drivers of dv6000 for xp

    Rapidshare:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/135427294...

    Megashare:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YSVCQYNF

Base System Device---- its just storage driver below link

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-335 00/sp33413.exe

update to the audio driver if the audio driver on the cd dont work for you use this driver...

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/d...

    on more news

OK looks like when your installing the audio it wont work from the CD... this is what you have to do 1st install the sm bus then the AMD update and restart your PC then install the audio driver from the cd and ta da it works.. and as for the wireless driver it does work, you just have to turn off the button for the wireless that's in front of your PC and then install the wireless and then restart your PC and ta da it works :)... hope that helps

    -----------------------

    and then there's this:

    http://cegeekbook.blogspot.com/2009/06/hps...talling-xp.html

has a link for the drivers:

    http://www.topix.com/forum/computers/hp/T4E1C3AVFVG1DB1C9

And these guys (http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-5007-i-need-all-the-drivers-for-hp-dv-6000; lots of posts there) say:

There are no SATA drivers in XP - however what you are looking for is in BIOS. I don't have a HP Laptop right now maybe somebody can enlighten you, what you need is in the SATA section of BIOS, it comes set to AHCI or something and you change it to standard, reboot and Windows XP can see your drive. Sorry that's a bit vague I did a XP Downgrade on a 6700 box a few days back (number 23 I think by now) but I can never remember the exact setting till I see it and the box is back with the happy owner running XP

to install XP The method is here

    http://www.fastfs.com/help_pages/hp%20downgrade.htm

    and:

There is a driver file sp32646 you need to down load from the HP site (if you type the sp32646 in Google its faster), Install this first and then the audio drivers and then the Modem drivers, this will sort out the audio problims,

(all other drivers are on the Hp.co.uk site)

Seems you need to install XP2, then drivers, then SP3.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista-7/...ta-install.html a guy says re: SATA

Make a recovery disc (as mentioned before)

Go online and download all available XP drivers and save them to a flash drive

    Disable native SATA support

    Install XP pro

Click Control Panel > Add New Hardware

    - This should tell you what hardware needs drivers

Use your recovery disc to search for and install drivers

For each driver that won't install, try the ones you downloaded

Your XP installation should be working

The only problem is, you don;'t have SATA support, so the hard drive won't be as "good". I couldn't even tell a difference, personally.
