Last few days main school area near the big temple has many help services available.

I am thankful for / to all those agencies / places that did help and especially now those from the refuse collection departments.

I live in just out side Banphai.

Govt warning was for Saturday and Sunday WRONG the rains and flooding came Thursday and Friday.

Rained again yesterday - Tuesday - today ?

Water in local river rose about 7 metres+ reached 3 - 4 metres roadside tree level.

Many friends and people I know around me homes completely flooded.

I live in Banphai and there was flooding all around me.   Water in soi rose very fast. to chest level within a couple of hours, it drained in some areas by the 2nd and 3rd day.

Water levels rose 2 - 3+ metres around houses.

It has been followed by half day no rain and a day of nonstop rain.

Local river rose nearly 10 metres water level on roadside trees 2 - 4 metres.

So many homes completely flooded, including those of many friends and people I know.

No electric for 2 days, govt cut which is good as many people still leave electrical goods plugged in as the water rose.

Livestock herded to nearest 'high' point.

Wonderful response from Chiaphum / Korat rescue services, local clinic etc.    Did not notice relief efforts of any kind ( food / refuge ) by main temples and schools.   One school started yesterday I think.

Unfortunately JIT ruled again and failed miserably.

I live where the nearest supermarket is some kilometers away.    I can buy most of what I need cheaper in the local big stores ( those supplying local shops ); savings often 5%.    As for fruit and veg,, with a good eye and a nice smile prices beat anything in the supermarkets - example 3 lettuce 15 baht enough for 4 - 5 salads.

Was overcharged 100baht on a special price offer at local BigC, complained and given refund.

A slight twist on the geothermal heating of houses / pavements etc. in Iceland.

There was a very interesting discussion on BBC Radio 4 Business News recently regarding solar power.  A man had designed and tested a solar panel which uses not only the sunlight to produce electricity but to use the heat of the panel to provide heating for water etc.   A single one metre panel was sufficient for one house.    

I wonder if you could use the heat from silage clamps ( silage is stored compacted grass that is fed to cows in the winter - not sure if they are still part of todays farming practices - they were back in the 1960's ).

On the opposite side of course are the underground houses in Coober Pedy Austrakia.

Way back in the 1980's the Greek side of Cyprus had made it law that all new houses had to have solar panels for hot water and heating.

I have needed their services a couple of times, once following 2 days on the floor unable to move any part of my body after a stroke.

The up side is that the hospital is only 10 minutes away and the emergency teams do have some knowledge of English.

Someone found me, called 1669 and as the person was aware that i had made out a DNR and that it was on a wall of my house in clear view, showed it to the emergency team.   There is also a copy at my local hospital.

The local hospital gave correct emergency treatment before shipping me off to Khon Kaen.

Urinary therapy, how ever it is applied, is still seen as quackery, even by the well educated.

Male urine is sterile because the prostate destroys the bacteria.

May not be "free" of bacteria once it leaves the bladder if one has a urinary tract infection

I use the talcum powder available in 20 baht shops - no preference to taste or smell.

Have tried dog flea powder, seems to work.

What is standard rice-farm management ?   Perhaps the farmers should go back to the old ways of watching / listening to the weather and plant when it is the right time not wait for a government weather forecast.    The farmer knows his land - or should do - and knows the type of rice suitable for that land.  Unfortunately as in many other countries the big companies demand a rice suitable to them, although lessons are slowly being learnt in other countries that some of the old rice breeds are more tolerant to today's weather.

Who pays for these courses, are they free ?     Who pays for the teachers, is it from government tax, i.e. from the people or, is it the big companies ?    If not the big companies why not ?

And perhaps I should ask similar questions for what is "standard dairy farm management" ?

Having been in farming since I was 15, now in my 70's and in many different countries the partnership between the farm, the farmer and the big companies no longer seems to exist.

Not intended as an anti-Brexit jibe.   I was thinking about possible visa requirements whatever ones nationality may be.   My own family have 3 different 'status' within the UK going back to the 50's and 60's.

I bought a HP printer about 2 years ago, HP Officejet 6830 All in one.

Unable to print a word doc without there being an extra large bottom margin, have to revert to some old word docs that I have and use them as a template.   HP were "not aware" this was an issue but despite trying different things said "Sorry. no can fix !"

Found the red cartridge often would not work, discovered that the slightest vibration stops the cartridge connecting properly, sometimes have to press down on the printer to get red to work.

An old HP printer I had lasted years with never an issue.

Can't find the thread you mentioned although I remember something along those lines last year, if not before.

Suggest you start a new thread asking the same question, "What are you reading now ?"

I could always name a few.

I am now in my 70's.

Most of my work / life has been outside the UK since the late 1960's especially from 1983 onward, including working freelance.   Unfortunately 'too much work experience' was not a good thing to have and I found myself almost unemployable.

Came to work in Thailand in 2001 as a freelance advisor.  I went back to UK in 2012 and 2014 but could not get a credit rating despite having been with the same bank for 40 years.

I found very suitable apartments to rent each time, one had a warden on duty during the day and not far from my childrens places.     Even when I agreed for a six months rental deposit I still couldn't get an agreement.

A few pointers that may help, but as most people have already mentioned "England ain't cheap" to live, especially when you take utilities, water, gas, electric in to account.

Do you have a good credit rating ?

Are you classed as resident in the UK ?     I am not so, my state pension is reduced.

Are you still registered with a doctor in the UK ?  this may help with residency.

If you return there could be a benefit with acceptance of your current status if you tried in the place you were last resident.

If you return contact CAB as soon as possible irrespective of the area you may finally wish to settle.

Depending on your circumstances you may wish to consider council housing.

If you intended moving there with your family this would open up a range of questions that people here may be able to offer advise with.

It is surprising what we can do work wise if the need arises.

Thanks KittenKong, I used something like this when I was working in Holland back in the early 80's,think it only had 4 jars.    I was a vegetarian back then so the yogurt was for my family.    Can't remember ever seeing soy milk back then although it was available as a powder for feeding babies.   Think I tried baby formula soy milk and it curdelled.

Will try to find the starter and give soy milk a go again.

I think for your soy yoghurt I would definitely try using a tub of live supermarket yoghurt to get it going, if you cant get the freeze-dried starter.

Are you using natural fermenting - meaning open air - or do you use a yogurt maker ?

"Added things" to the soy milk is possible but I am using the same brand as before.    I use no added sugar or flavours soy.

Previously I made cows milk yogurt as a test just leaving outside in cleaned jars during the day when temps were high but not in direct sun.    Brought inside from late afternoon and in morning yogurt was fine.    Drew off the separated liquid with a plastic tube.    Settled yogurt was fine.   The last batch I made was still good more than 6 months later.    A friend who practices alternative medicine used the yogurt for treatment.

As a vegan I do not use cows milk although I have to accept that the first 'starter' came from cows milk yogurt; further production used the starter from my own yogurt.

I like to use yogurt as a salad dressing, making lassi etc.
