  1. Having been in farming since I was 15 in 1961 ( not born to a farming family ), had my own farm in South America and later worked in many countries, I CANNOT understand why farmers here cannot start being REAL farmers and listen to what THEIR senses tell them regarding the weather.   Stick their finger in the air at the govt information and stick their finger in the air again for their OWN weather forecast and course of action.

Especially when they are relying on a single crop per year.

In that case, I would simply not file a TM30 until I returned home for more than a few days or a week (since you stayed in hotels the whole time and the hotels are required to report your stay).

If the hotels you stayed in do not report your stay then that is on them and not you.  I stayed in a hotel in Bangkok for a couple of nights and went to my local IO after returning home to file a TM30 and was told that the hotel I stayed in did not report my stay so therefore I did not need to file a TM30 that time.  I asked how would I know if they report me or not and she just smiled and said "you won't".

I then asked if the hotel will be fined for not reporting my stay and they replied that they WOULD NOT be fined.  The Officer stated that hotels don't always report foreigners only staying for 1 or 2 nights and "it's not a problem."

Therefore if you hop, skip and jump around all over Thailand and stay in hotels then you are covered... but at some point you should report that you have returned home and file a TM30 so as not to have a problem when doing your annual extension etc.

    Many thanks MeePeeMai for that

  3. What happens if you are working for a Thai company, rent an apartment in Bangkok, travel every week to different places within Thailand often staying overnight or a couple of nights, perhaps returning to Bangkok before going on to a another place before returning to Bangkok for the weekend ?   How could one report each time to an Immigration office if they were having to visit another place the next day ?

No idea if your System Restore is on? But if so, you could try to get the system back to a time when it worked.

If not, reinstall which is pretty easy. I've bought many activation keys for MS Office via E bay for only 200 to 350 baht.

But did you try to run it in safe mode?

Are you sure that the files are readable? Please try to open one of these files with another machine first.

Uninstall and installation of MS 2-016, or 19 will only take about 30 minutes to an hour.

Having the installation disc could even get you the option to repair your installation. Here's how to uninstall it.

How to repair MS 2013 on MS W 7

Many thanks for the video links.

I tried downloading new PP files but the sound does not work neither are they interactive.

I have Office Home & Student 2013 use 1 PC.  It has Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote.   It is an original boxed disc/s with key.

You said "Uninstall and installation of MS 2-016, or 19 will only take about 30 minutes to an hour".

Do you mean uninstall 2013 and buy / install 2016 ?

If I delete Office 2013 will I loose any Word files etc. I have on my laptop ?

Should I delete the one on my laptop and reinstall from original disc and key ?

Sorry to seem dumb about this.

Speedo, have you tried opening a powerpoint, from your backup drive on another computer with MS Office installed?

Try to narrow down where the problem is, ie, are your saved files corrupt or is your instillation corrupt?

Have you tried right clicking on one of the powerpoint files and use the Open With option?

Thanks chrisinth, no not tried on another machine, people are very wary, will see if someone from my street side early morning coffee and butterflies friends will help out.

Do you think I should delete Office from my machine and reinstall from original disc and key ?   Is it easy to do ?

When I transferred files from my backup drive many did not save properly, many files have a name with a ppt ending and are empty, others have a pptx ending and have pictures etc but the layout is different, others are no longer interactive.

Yes, have tried right clicking and Open With option, still no joy.

Going to try downloading a file again from the internet and see what happens.

OP< have you tried installing Office in safe mode?

If you're planning a new installation, why don't you upgrade to 2016, or 2019? If you don't know how, please page me. I can walk you through it.

Many thanks Isaanbiker for suggesting things I can try.

Already have Office installed which was done when I first purchased the laptop in 2015.   It was reinstalled, for some reason, can't remember why.   Thanks for the offer of 'walking me through'.

Did you mean "Have" I tried reinstalling Office ?    I have the original disc with key.   Is it easy to uninstall and reinstall ?   Now that I have retired from my consultancy work and almost retired from teaching not sure if it is worth upgrading.

Previously I used PowerPoint on a Toshiba laptop ( it gave up the ghost aged 3 years and a few months - motherboard - shame it was a perfect machine design wise - would like to repair but Toshiba said very expensive - but a new mother board is only about $200.   My daughter had a Toshiba aged 14 years and I had a Packard Bell ( built like the proverbial sh,, house, aged 10 purchased in 1996 ).

Will try downloading some new PP files and see if they work.

  7. I run Win7 from choice on my 3 year old laptop

I installed Office Home and Student 2013.

    All installation discs are originals.

I had many PP files from an old laptop ( it has died ), running the same programs and copied them to a backup drive.

This I then copied on to my present laptop.

None of the PP files would allow the interactive option, important as I use in teaching.

None of the PP files seem to have the original layout.

I tried reinstalling PP from the Office ... disc but it keeps showing error and will not install, tried twice but same issue.

Any ideas please, note I am an oldie and not that technically minded.

  8. I have had smaller centipedes come up from the shower drain, I place a small plastic container with water in the drain out and it stops them coming in to the shower.

Having been bitten / stung by a 15cm one whilst in bed, yes it feels like fire.

  9. Could any one tell me the name of the birds in the photo ?

The previous day I had seen a similar bird flying solo in the evening about a kilometre away.

The sighting of the flock of birds was a strange event.

Driving past the same area in to town ( 2+ km ) there were no birds but, rain was falling in a very confined area of less than 100 metres.

An hour later I returned, still no rain until until reaching the same location where slight rain was falling and this time there was the flock of birds in the photo.

There was rain falling in a very small area around the birds, probably not larger than a hundred meters.

The birds did not seem to be moving around very much, no sounds just some raising of heads and wing stretching.

Could anyone suggest why the birds were there ( there is a small lake about 100mt away ) ?

Is it in advance of a moving weather pattern e,g, storms ?

About 6 years ago my stepson(Thai) sent about 2M baht from Kbank to his own account at Bank of America.  He had to supply a reason on the transfer authorization form.  He said "expenses".  There was no problem with the transfer.

    Thank you for that information.

My situation would be in the event of my death that my long standing friend could pay expenses here and send some funds to one of my daughters account in the UK to cover flight costs etc.

My own UK accounts would of course be closed on notification of my death.
I will ask my local KBank out of curiosity.

You may want to revise your opinion and bring it up to date regarding Thai commercial broiler welfare.

Commercial broilers are not treated cruelly. Mistreatment equals stress equals dead birds equals lost income.

Welfare standards are higher here than the west regarding stocking density, especially the USA.

Hormone and antibiotic growth-promotors are no longer used in Thailand. Neither is animal protein.

Whilst antibiotic is used to treat birds with infections, antibiotic treatment is never given after day 25 (of 45 days growth before slaughter) in order any residues clear their system by the slaughter date.

Much of the chicken produced here goes for export to Japan, Middle East and Europe.

I run a commercial broiler farm in Thailand.

Do yourself a favour and save on your grocery budget..this from the Australian govt site:

    http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/generalissues/hormonalgrowth/Pages/default.aspx

Having started with poultry in the 1960's - and later with duck - working as a freelance advisor since the 1980's including 20 years in the ASPAC / China area I would accept that standards as in the written form have changed considerably, so also has the advertising to suggest a product is safe.

I agree with your point regarding the consequences of external sources of stress, remember the animal is already under a great genetic stress.

Welfare standards may be higher than other countries and if they are strictly followed it will certainly add to the shelf price of the product.

If one is under the strict contracts of some Poultry Companies standards are high and difficult to meet.    There are of course contract growers who have contract growers.

I have seen antibiotics in various forms ( both those specifically for livestock and for humans ) given to both poultry and ducks well in to the grow out stage.

I have seen growth promoters meant for one form of livestock given to others.

Yes, poultry produce ( meat and eggs ) produced here does go in to Europe and Asia, for which we expect it to be antibiotic residue free.      However, that which you may buy in your local fresh or cooked markets may not be.   Neither may it be of general good health etc.

There may also be a further issue where poultry / ducks are housed over fish ponds.

On the point about calcium you can always use dried and ground egg shells.

This is getting a long way away from the original topic about bones for dogs and I am as guilty as others of having done something "not good" in my almost 50 years in farming: as a vegan for much of that time I have endeavoured to teach compassion irrespective of the animal.

My point about giving bones to dogs remains the same - be careful.

I was contacted recently via email by a Bangkok visa agent offering their services of a a hassle-free extension and "sponsorship of financial requirements".

    I wondered how they knew:

    1. my email address

    2. that I had retirement extensions

    3. my nationality

    and then I stopped wondering...

"Support your local Immigration office / r"

Sometimes its who you know through who you know where help is available.

Having worked with a major company here and doing a 90 day on my work permit, the stacks of paper for me each time was ludicrous.

As of a few days ago DeeMoney lost it's capability to send to the UK, US, and NJ.  Something about they must find a new money transfer partner for those countries.  Not familiar with Superrich funds transfer capability but Thai banks can sure transfer funds to other countries for certain purposes.  But you can't transfer funds from "another" person's account....like a dead person's account without court approval.

Pulling funds from a death person's account is illegal.  The court needs to give such authorization under the probate process.  Yes, yes I know the person may have given his debit card PIN number to a loved one but that does not make it legal.

It was a real hassle trying to send funds out to the UK when I first started here full time nearly 20 years ago.

Not sure if a single bank here would allow a Thai person to send a large sum to the UK, can but ask.

Perhaps if one of my children comes to Thailand when I die they could exchange Thai baht in to sterling and put it in their backpack - obviously a No No at UK immigration !

No problem.  The still alive joint holder can withdraw funds.

Now, I've heard stories that some banks freeze half of the account's balance pending probate, but I bet that was due to another other family member(s) filing court papers contesting a person's estate and wanting to freeze as many assets as possible pending probate.

Thanks for your comments, will ask the bank on Monday.

Have only recently moved my accounts from Bangkok despite having left there some years ago, got fed up with the extra charges.

  15. I am not sure if I am allowed to post this question and / or whether or not in the correct forum.

The questions relate to closing an account kept for a retirement visa.

Has any had the unfortunate task of having to withdraw funds by ATM from KBank following the death of a loved one ?

If so were restrictions placed or were there other difficulties ?

Secondly is it possible for a Thai person to send such funds to the UK using  Superrich or must it be a bank ?

If a bank does anyone have useful information about procedures ?

I have a very close friend for 20 years and have trusted her with my life on more than one occasion.

I wish things to go as smoothly s possible for those I leave behind and am trying to plan accordingly.

I already have a DNR in place for some years and a Will is already drawn up.
