  1. Can anyone offer advice as why I may have floaters and what causes them to appear ?

The floaters have onl started in the past ten days, affect the right eye, which is my best eye ( I wear glasses only for reading ).
The first floaters were only when I looked at a wall, now they can show when walking.

The first floaters to appear were the size of small black ants with a small air bubble like floater moving through water trailing the ant.

Now I also see a large floater like curling smoke, grey or charcoal coloured, sometimes a greenish tint, these normally move from the center of view to the right top.

Don't see them when reading / wearing glasses.

    No apparent stress cause.

My medical history is multiple TIA's since 2012 and 5 strokes in the past twelve months.

The last in June of this year which resulted in Rhabdomyosis ( creatinine levels of 38,000 ) and Acute Renal Failure.  Three weeks in ICU but no dialysis .

Fortunately I have recovered very very rapidly from both issue.

The TIA's and strokes have affected both left and right side of brain.   The last stroke affected the right side of the brain.   CT scans following last stroke

I have no other medical issues, am not overweight etc.

I take no medication of any form.

I exercise daily both walking, self massage, learning suitable yoga etc.

My diet is vegan ( over 40 years ) and very well controlled.

Never had floaters before so would be grateful of any advice etc.

This thread reminds me of the movie "Mars Attack"

Well found clip.  Enjoyed that, as well as Up In Smoke.   Cheech and Chong always good for a laugh.

The film clip was a bit like the BSE outbreaks in 1986 through to 2001.

I have worked in farming in different countries for 55 years since I was 15.  As hypocritical as it may seem I turned vegetarian and then vegan many years ago but, still worked in farming, I try to teach compassion which cuts both ways, for the farmer and any livestock involved.

Lostinisaan, they have a lot less powerful venom than the local millipedes. Those are worth watching out for (having been bitten twice!)

Have had centipede bite recently.   It had climbed onto the bed and bit me on the foot near the ankle.   I did not feel the bite but had involuntarily kicked and killed it, its size was around 15cm.    The pain was intense.   It felt as though the bite area and for a large area around it was on fire, which lasted for over 3 hours, nothing would cool it down.    The burning subsided but low level was there for two days and, localised pain for 4 days.   It left slight scaring where the pincers had come into contact with the skin.

Normally, if I see centipedes and am quick enough I brush them out of the door, millipedes being easier as they curl up.

You can also try the little country restaurants to they're pretty good.

Yes, I am sure the 'local' restaurants outside Korat may offer the possibility of non-menu food.  Unfortunately I have no transport.   I live about 50Km south of Khon Kaen and use local transport where ever I go.

  5. Just look at how countries like UK and local councils how they deal with 'garbage' and 'so called garbage'.

Road side trees when trimmed go straight into the truck pulled cutter the the cuttings used for the parks r sold on to compost / chippings sellers.

Any and all garbage can be collected at the roadside or taken to the local council site where it is all recycled, even glass etc.

Here the plastic could be, if not re-used, be converted into new recycled items.

I am not sure about reclaiming land from the sea in Singapore unless this is using rubble from demolished buildings.

Locally the rubble from private housing and government built buildings, such as a small keep fit park, are all slowly filling up one of the two, what were sweet water underground spring fed ponds.     The rubble including old local authority water company drainage pipes are being dumped then bulldozed into the pond.   Once the first is filled it will cause flood waters to back up and flood a medium sized pig farm.     This farm totally flooded last year causing the slurry soaked area around the farm and stored slurry to run in to the pond.    It was dead for almost a year, even algae didn't survive for long.    When the second pond is filled it will cause flooding in nearby rice paddies.

As for the newspaper part quote below, experience often shows that what was temporary becomes permanent, for a price.

"The Second Army Region thus allowed the municipality to use its 50-rai (8 hectares) plot of land as a temporary garbage-burial site"

  6. My daughter breast fed her twins ( girl / boy ) until they were 3 years old.

An advantage of breast feeding was that when one of the children showed a severe allergic response during early feeding months it was far easier to find out the cause.     It was milk and products containing milk that the mother was eating and passing through in her milk.     Once my daughter stopped eating these products the both children could feed naturally again.

  7. It is possible, as I have seen before ( my work for many years and in many countries has been as a freelance consultant in farming, especially ducks and chicken ) that, it is possible for birds to get 'cold'.    This can occur particularly if there has been rain at night and there has been some form of ventilation in the poultry house, i.e. fans running.

With ducks there can be an almost instant cessation of lay, the flock having to be slaughtered.

You don't say if some or all of the birds were dead !?

If dead what position were they in, e.g. on their backs, curled up as if asleep ?

You mention that where you had put light you found dead birds ?

Is this with all types of bird ?

Were they lying on top of each other ?

If yes they could of 'smothered' trying to keep warm / dry.   This seems most likely, especially if young stock.

What age were these birds ?

Something or someone may have frightened the birds causing them to huddle leading to smothering.

Disease - if you have had people going into the houses at night they could have transferred disease.

You did well to consider bacteria in the wet / humid weather.

Are all the birds in the same house ?

If in different houses were there more birds affected in some houses than others ?

Were certain types, i.e. ducks, chickens, quail, guinea fowl more affected than others ?

Are they all housed in one house ?

If not are the housing conditions the same in each house or different ?

Did you find dead / affected birds on each day of the rain ?

Had they gone off their feed ?

Was the feed that you gave them mouldy, this can easily kill ducks ?

Did they have potable drinking water at all times and, were they drinking ?

Were ammonia levels inside the house / houses very high ?

Have other livestock other than birds been affected ?

Have you given any form of antibiotic or other medication just prior to or during this period or after this period ?

Do the ducks have access to a pond ?    Is there floating algae in / on the pond ? They can die from algae poisoning !

What ages where the birds that died ?

Hope some of the above helps.    If you need any more help or would like me to explain more clearly please let me know.

It is always a shame to loose livestock.

What you need to do now is, sit back, and once you understand what happened find a way to try and resolve the overall issue, both short term and long term.

There are some great restaurants in the mall and Terminal 21if you're looking for western style food if not there are other great restaurants all over the city.  There's one in particular right next door to the Hopp Inn hotel.

    Thanks Jim7777.

Have tried both malls but as you say they serve "western - style - food" emphasis on "style".

I am looking for something different.

Would also prefer vegan / vegetarian.   There is a small place near the central square I think, about 35 baht per portion and good taste too.

The Mall I like because of it's 50mtr competition swimming pool.

You should try The Mall and Terminal 21.They both have many restaurants.Plus another shopping mall is opening at Korat near Christmas.

Thanks 'thrilled', yes have been to both malls last year.

Another mall opening, don't they ever learn or are there enough people still interested in the novelty ?

The Mall I have visited a few times because, the water park there has a decent and clean 50mtr competition pool, good for a proper workout.    Also the rest of the park is clean, lifeguards a plenty and food is reasonable: you can also go out and come in again.

Will re-check the food delights in The Mall and Terminal 21 next time I am there.

My diet is normally vegan ( strictly no meat, fish nor preferably milk ) but, will close my eyes to cheese in a salad, hence my liking  for arab / greek food.     I try to get to Bangkok at least twice a year.

    Big Chili Mexican restaurant.

    Sorry, can't give decent directions.

Thanks TerryLH for name of restaurant.

I like Mexican styled food but am vegetarian / vegan.  Still, can get Mexican styled food.

Unfortunately the online sight is saying restaurant is closed and no phone number to check.

When you have transportation I ate two days in a row at a place on a lake with the chalets you sit in around the lake. It was not far from The Mall.

best food I have had in Thailand.....Asparagus with black mushroom and shrimp....delicious.....and lots of asparagus. Also a coconut filled with a creamy seafood curry....once again delicious. The two of us couldn't eat everything and took it home.

There are a number of restaurants with lakes around Korat.....this one was alongside a two lane road. Local farang will probably know where it is....and also along that road I saw a Brit flag and saying English food and curries.

i spent 18 days in Korat and was surprised to only see around a dozen farang......thought that was odd. I really liked the city, much nicer than Chiang Mai, and nicely spread out.....of course I wasn't there in the heat. Be interested to hear farang residents ten cents of how it is when it is very hot and what they do to deal with it.

Thanks Mansell for details of what sounds a great place to eat.    Could do with a decent real curry.

Unfortunately I won't be on the road as I no longer drive due to health issues and, a recent stroke etc.

Never drove in Thailand but did regularly in Malaysia.

Have lived / worked in Thailand for may years but never drove here.   I worked freelance for a Bangkok based company but, went to different places up country 5 - 7 days a week, often staying overnight or for a week.     Quite often doing a 48 hour shift going to a farm, then back to Bangkok airport then back to farm for a 24 hour session; on top of this I was on call 24/7, I had and needed a company driver.

Only visited Korat a few times, mainly because the water park at The Mall has a 50mtr competition pool and a water slide that is reasonable.    The water park is great off peak especially for a good swimming workout and much better than other parks, it's clean, plenty of life guards and food is reasonable.

As for what to do when it's hot I am sure you will get plenty of replies.    It's not the heat it's the humidity that gets you.   I lived and worked in Saudi and Kuwait, much of it in desert areas where temperatures could reach 60C in Summer.

Microsoft has been having issues with some of the security patches rolled out recently.

Microsoft admits IE printing problems after installing the June security patches KB 4021558, KB 4022719, KB 4021558

    By woody  |  on June 21st, 2017 at 05:18

The issue you're experiencing is not a simple fix. I found an example post of what a Win7-32 user is going through trying to apply this particular rollup, and the suggestions for clearing the issues.

    [Win7SP1 x86] kb4022719 fails to install

    sysnative.com/forums

Also, if you can install the next rollup,

"the July Monthly Security roll-up (KB4025341) installed okay. Since it includes the previous months fixes then the initial problem doesn't need to be fixed. I guess it was a bug with last months rollup...."

Thanks RichCor for the info and links, helped a lot and answered my questions.

Can only help you with a nice Japanese restaurant: Kuroda.

Located opposite the police station in the city in a tiny street. There is a sign at the main street indicating the tiny street.

Popular with local Japanese workers. They have a buffet for 450 baht.

    Thanks Bob12345

    Will check it out.

  14. Can anyone advise if any of the following types of restaurants are in Korat City.

Korat City as have to use public transport.

Not the normal Fuji, Pizza Hut etc

Looking for something a bit special, unable to travel long distances at this time so, unfortunately Bangkok is out.

Indian, Greek, Arab, Italian ( not just pizza ), Spanish ( vegetarian ).

First hand experience would be great as would be any phone contact numbers.

I have found a couple of places online but either the phone number does not work or there is no phone number.

  15. Have used Kaspersky for a long time.   Now using Kaspersky 2017 Total Security.   Also first time to try Secure Connection.

Regarding Secure Connection, I understand that the initial limit of protection is 200MB.

I notice that when the 200MB limit is reached and it is in the middle of a download then the download stops.

    Five questions -

    # 1 - If I purchase /use the one year unlimited protection, would a download be interrupted when Kaspersky switches to a different secure location ?

    # 2 - If Secure Connection is always on does it slow down downloads and, if so, is this just a little or a lot ?

    # 3 - If I am running multiple browsers at one time will Secure Connection cover all at the same time ?

    # 4 - If I already use a Privacy mode with a browser will / does Secure Connection still protect ?

    # 5 - How good is Kaspersky's 'Secure Connection'.

Thanks for any advise in advance.
