  1. Well, someone's making a nice profit out of you. I paid 2976฿ last month to run a 630sqm 2-storied house with 2 occupants here in south Surin with 6 ac's (though only 3 normally used) & set at 22C-25C depending on need during the 2 or 3 hottest months. The a/c in my library u/s runs most of every day from about 0900 to 2200, and in the main bedroom u/s from around 2200 to 0600.
  2. The BKK Bank's list of bank holidays for this year has May 1 National Labour Day and May 4 Coronation Day listed as bank holidays. 5 May is also mentioned elsewhere as a public holiday added by the Government (presumably to make a lovely 4-day weekend for the adoring populace, while reducing the nation's abysmally low productivity levels even lower).
  3. And what on earth are Thai students studying in the Sudan?
  4. Nothing short of a firing squad for the top 10000 will change anything. Where's Fidel when we need him?
  5. Don't worry, the quickest way to ruin a 'pristine' beach is to advertize it. Should be nicely befouled and generally ruined this time next month.
  6. I note that the map suggests that 90% of the Thai-generated fires are in the north, not the NE ie Isaan. I wonder why that is. Living here in south Surin the locals don't strike me as notably more rational than their northern almost-cousins ...
  7. Germans are big on nudity at the beach, in Germany. But here I am shocked. My heart is palpitating. If I had been there the sight might have put me off men forever and my Thai boy would be heart-broken.
  8. I wonder what part of the slowdown is related to economic slowdown resulting from covid/post-covid ... And how can the numbers players tell the difference between that and the 'clean' energy effect?
  9. In the Australian bureaucracy it means 'Interdepartmental Committee'. But I'm thinking this is quite likely not what it means on this thread.
  10. Not a great President but a good human being.
  11. Never mind, the French won't allow you back in for at least a generation, so there'll be plenty of time to enjoy your symbolic sovereignty whilst your economy lies in the ditch.
  12. Clearly the Thai economy is moving up to First World capability.
  13. Here in south Surin we had our first rain last night since early December. A beautiful heavyish downpour that lasted about 15-20 minutes ... some 4 hours after I had carefully watered the shrubs. Everything sparkling and looking very cheerful this morning. The barren lawns turning greenish before our eyes ...
  14. I guess from Hang Dong to Ban Rim wouldn't get you far?
  15. So I take it that the sale and the possession of is not currently legal? Which, if true, casts an interesting light on the multiple shops selling pot around Asoke when I was there 3 weeks ago for my first visit to Bangers in 3 years. Including one large and very fine-looking shop advertising seeds, flowers & medicinal ...
  16. Even if the RTAF could afford them, even if the US were stupid enough to supply them, even if RTAF pilots could qualify to fly them, what on earth does the RTAF think it's going to do or achieve with just 2 of them? Well, apart from looking lovely at the end of the runway ...
  17. Not sure what 'rectification' might consist of. The Europeans won't have a bar of Britain for at least a couple of decades, possibly much more. Very educational I should imagine for the average Brit punter.
  18. Can't help noticing the number of pot shops here in Bangers (where we're visiting from Surin for the first time in 3 years). 3 shops - one large & glamorous - just in the 100 metres between our hotel and Asoke. The only thing that rivals new pot shops both here & in Silom is the number of money exchanges. And I can't help noticing - perhaps it was always like that when we lived in BKK but I'm certainly noticing them now after 3 years away - the number of Westerners on the streets, 95% male, many single, quite a few elderly and some who should be in an ol' pipple's home.
