What you 'identify' as - whether to others or inside your own mind - and what you do and who you do it with are at least 3 different things. And all combinations are possible. And all may get tried out in different situations and at different stages of a person's life. Nothing surprising in any of that. Been that way for a long long time. The only thing that's a bit new is people talking endlessly about it all.
  2. Conclusion: Greed leads to insolvency.
  3. Much the same as me. Dragged here at age 62 by an acquaintance. Met my b/f, aged 22. Now happily ensconced together here 14 years later in a big house full of books. The books are my bubble.

The fundamental reason (if you'll pardon the phrase) is that their customers are men who identify as 'straight'.
  5. So the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement was not negotiated and agreed between two equal parties?
  6. And then there's Oz, up there with China in rare earths of all kinds, just less developed as yet. But the Japs aren't hanging around, busily snuggling up to the dependable Aussies.
  7. From an historical point of view it's hard to see what Columbus has to do with Usofa. There's any number of European explorers of North America with more obvious links. Probably the Pilgrim Fathers (oh! and the Pilgrim Mothers too) would be the most suitable.
  8. Never mind, soon we'll be complaining of rising prices of anything imported.

Never mind. All will be well. The guvamint has it all in hand.
  10. Fairly cold comfort. As the article notes, the baht could easily rise again once the current disturbance resolves itself one way or the other.
  11. So for once it wasn't the ladyboys who initiated the scuffle.
  12. Ditto here in sth Surin. We were advised - correctly - when we built here on the outskirts of Prasat not to rely on town water supply. Plenty of water 40m down. But I'm always relieved all the same when the rains arrive in April/May. According to my b/f, it used to be June before they arrived. Getting a little earlier each year.
  13. Some beautiful photos here. Very fine. Congratulations! (from Surin next door)
  14. One thing about Thailand's (mainstream ie conservative) politicians you can count on: They may be incompetent or ineffective or uninspiring at governing the country for the benefit of ALL Thais, but when it comes to elections and especially election results in and out of the Parliament, efficiency & effectiveness are the order of the day.
  15. Lovely religions to be found in Usofa. The pastor could migrate to Iran and become a mullah without anyone noticing.
  16. If they're planning to do the whole length of the Thai/Cambodian border in like fashion - ie wall & paved road etc - that's a mammoth task and not just because of the length of the border. The terrain is rugged in many areas eg in Surin, with which I am familiar ... forested & mountainous. Years and years of work and moneymaking to look forward to.
  17. Unfortunately for Xi, the timing is out: He has recently - over several months - been pursuing a purge of the leadership of the Chinese military, from the very top down. With major effects on morale and command 'n control. And he now has oil-supply problems because of the Iran war. And Trump could easily extend that indefinitely. So not a good time for him to launch a once-in-a-lifetime thrust across the strait to Taiwan.
  18. Yes, well aware. I am actually capable of reading, carefully. My general point remains.
  19. At the rate the Lawyer-in-Charge makes decisions, the war will be over before any ship leaves town.
  20. The usual medical hack: Try these pills. If they don't work, come back and see me in 3 weeks and we'll try some others. You might want to review what you EAT. All out of a tin or a packet or a bottle? Try eating real food - lots of veggies (kale, broccoli, carrots, garlic, ginger, pumpkin, tomatoes ... ) and fish (salmon) and fruit (apples, oranges, blueberries, strawberries ... ) and limited red meat ...
  21. Clearly the 'German captain' failed to pay the requisite fee to the appropriate Thai authorities.
  22. So the mullahs represent a 5000-year-old civilization? Tell that to Muhammad! It is to RESTORE Iran as a civilized multi-ethnic & multi-religious member of the world's great nations that this battle is (now) being fought. The fact that Trump wouldn't have a clue is irrelevant. He's merely History's useful numbskull.
