  1. So what's Bourbon Street?

A Bkk restaurant/hotel that has been around for at least 25 years. Used to be in Washington Sq./Suk 22 but built new in Soi 63 and moved a year or 2 ago. Serves Cajun/Creole food with specials like Mexican buffets on Tuesdays. Good selection of beer and wine and not too expensive......... One of my favorite places to have a good meal! licklips.gifbiggrin.png

  2. Burger Factory is on Ekkamai Soi 10, Bourbon Street is on Soi 1 or 3 I think? So grab a Motorcye and tell him Soi Sip. You will be there in under 2 minutes. As you turn down Soi 10 Health Land will be on your right and Burger Factory is in the back of the parking lot on your left. Enjoy.

    Ok, thanks! biggrin.png

  3. Right, I just checked out the Burger Factory on Sukhumvit 63, Soi 10 in Ekkamai.

That was a flippin' great burger!

Hit all the right spots and at the end of my soi, result!

I went for the house burger, their go-to burger.

They cook them medium, it wa done medium well which is perfect for a burger. The consistencey of the mince meat was right, something I thought was wrong at Fattys.

The bun was great - fresh, like a brioche influenced bun. So great burger, with cheese, two strips of very crispy bacon, some sort of burger sauce relish and also they put on the other bun a slightly spicy sauce which gives it a litle bit of heat but it really all works very well in combination.

The fries were good - better than Fatty's. Not the "best I've ever had" but perfectly good enough. A few more would have been nice but it wasn't under-average.

I ate it with my hands after compressing it all down - you HAVE to eat a burger with your hands, knife and fork just doesn't cut it (pun!)

It was very nice, I enjoyed every bite and took my time. Nice venue, nice staff. Good selection of beers and lots of global wines ranging from 750 - 2200 a bottle.

Bill for the house burger (comes with a side of your choice) and 1 Singha beer came to 450 baht ish.

So the burger is about 350. A supersized McDonalds in 210 so well worth going to!

I would recommend no problem and I will certainly go back. Not every day of course but a good place for a well made tasty burger.

    EAT IT WITH YOUR HANDS!

How far from BB st. ? unsure.png

  5. I would like to give a personal example of putting one's foot in it.

I married my wife in 2007 and in 2010 her Aunt kept saying in Thai that since you are working away you must have a Gik, I kept saying no then I said "yes, i have" but I did not and that was it. I was ostracised and then the clanger hit. Thais have a tendency to play games but the rules change that's up to them. As a foreigner you need to grasp that all that you see is not clear as black and white the shades of grey mount up and gossip is the number one operator. They love gossiping. The real truth of the matter is that I did not pay sin sod but paid for my wife and her needs. I did support a nephew of hers for a year as he was studying in a music college and his parents were doing all they could in Chiang Rai but needed a little bit extra. No one asked me I just did it off my own bat.

With other things that have happened over in my in laws lives I have not seen my wife for 3 years but in time I am sure understanding the way Thais do things then integration will come back.

So in your case, frustration is the key they are looking for it's called stirring just to have a laugh.

You have not seen your wife in three years? Oh my God and you talk about integration?????? Do you even know that you are still married in real life?

    Glegolo

Sounds strange to me as well.............blink.png

  6. I would have thought that the Teaching in Thailand forum would b the best place for you to glean some information about the qualification that you need and Work Permit etc.

And only then seek clients or a teaching post (or both) near your locality.

One point you would be wise to understand when seeking to bring the real language skills into a school where the standard of German teaching is theoretical at best is that if you present yourself as a shining example of perfection and by your manner and comments cause the resident Thai German language teachers to loose face among either students or the head teachers your working life there will be short indeed.

Your teaching skills and language skills are of low importance compared to the ability to play the game of supporting the incumbent staff, make them look good then you stand a chance, but come in with the idea that you can change the world and make "them do it right" - you will fail from a great hight.

Yes I know another German who was teaching (not German language) for a short period in a university in Ubon.

The first thing he said when he started: I am going to be the best teacher here. This did not go well with the other teachers, and he didn't last long...............coffee1.gif

  9. But it's utter twoddle about not being able to post your 90 day report?

Can anyone confirn if this is a 100% sure service or an extra thing offered?

I have an English friend who has been posting his 90 day reporting from Khemarat (130 kms away) for the past 5 or 6 years. He has had no problems at all with the reports being accepted and receipts returned.

I have sent my 90 day report using the postal service for the last 8 - 9 years, and no problems. First years by ordinary mail, but now I send by registered. smile.png

  11. I must have blinked and missed it last time I went through there in January. If I remember correctly you don't drive a Toyota but have you heard any feedback from other locals who have had any servicing done there?

Your memory is failing you a bit since I've had a Toyota Sportcruiser since 2004. rolleyes.gif

I know nothing about their service, and I take mine to Toyota Ubon, where it was bought. biggrin.png

  13. Went to Phibun Immigration yesterday, to apply for extension of marriage visa.

Arrived at 10.00, and left at 11.30. All papers were ok,

Aircon up and running 10 ladies and 2 guys working there were in good mood!

When ground floor has been renovated, they will move back downstairs!

What was needed was copies of:

    All pages of pass port

all pages of bank book and bank confirmation letter.

    marriage documents

Wife's id card and house/land register

4 Pics of house/wife and me together

    Map with house location/

All in all it went much faster than I can remember, maybe because we brought two bags of Mangkut...biggrin.png

Sorry to say this but this is why there are so many problem's you bribed the officials with a gift. It doesn't matter money or fruit they expect the same from the next person.

Giving fruit to these officials is not bribing. It is being nice, kind and generous. This is what country folk do in most places around the world. They bring some produce from their farms to the city folk. Just a very little thing which is very much appreciated and remembered by these immigration police officials. Makes their day a little bit happier. I have worked with Thai government officials for nearly 30 years and giving out a few cakes for morning tea or the odd lunch now and then goes along way for good relationships.

    Agree Michael!

My wife also handed out a small bag of Jerusalem Artichoke, a root not very known to most Thais, and educated the ladies behind the counter on how and when to use, and what it's good for! biggrin.png
