  1. Sadly, I'm back in the (not so wild) West so I need a stand-in please for me ... a doppelgänger.

Someone who will drink more then his share of the beer then approach strangers and engage in conversation with them, generally corvort, raise a little mischief, laugh and smile a lot.

Retire tactfully to bed once the powers of conversation has left him ... drunk.gif

Awake to the bright lights of the morning only to look sheepishly around his fellow merrymakers of the night before to see if any apologies were required ... w00t.gif

Mr Bergen ... I'm sure that you will be an excellent host.

  2. As suggested earlier, I will be the host of the next Isaan farmers meeting, and Saturday 28th of June is the proposed date, as it will be 3 months since the last meeting at Packdee's mushroom farm.

Our farm is located in the south of Ubon Ratchathani Province close to the border with Cambodia, and we had a good meeting here in February 2012.

Our farm was originally a fruit farm, and we still have a good variety of fruit trees, but today we also grow rubber and cassava, and have a small resort with a lush garden area. Please check out http://www.suanloongdaengfarmstay.com

We have a few rooms available at our farm stay, and there are more resorts nearby for those who want to stay the night.

Further details regarding food, drink, accommodation and activities will follow

    Cheers! biggrin.png

  3. I'd assume that it's because there are/were a lot of soldiers stationed around that temple on the Thai/Cambodian border.

But that's just a guess, maybe Ubon has it's own army bases but are simply spread throughout the province a bit more (Although I think it's more airforce I Ubon right? And they're not patrolling the streets?)

But busy patrolling the sky around Ubon. Even seen F-16 flying here, which I never had before. Usually F-5s.

The F-16's are based in Ubon for many many years already.

Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base is a Royal Thai Air Force facility and is the home of Wing 21 of the RTAF 2nd Air Division. The RTAF 211sq "Eagles" fly the Northrop F-5E/F "Tiger II" fighter aircraft

  4. Yesterday we were more or less ready so we had a ‘soft soft’ opening.

Our very first customers were a couple of guys coming to the Hash Harriers convention in Pattaya. They had travelled from Issan and dropped in on the way, having read about Mobi’s on Thai Visa.

We had a good chat and they promised to come by again on their way home.

A few more trickled in as the day went on and we had to opportunity to practice our bar service skills, cooking, and most importantly – operating the computerised cash till.

There were a few hiccups but we managed OK – I think.

One guy claimed that we had charged him for too many beers, which seemed most unlikely, but anyway we gave him the benefit of the doubt.

The customers faded away after 7 pm, and by 10 p.m. we decided to call it a day on our very first day’s trading.

I am hoping for better things today – our first publicised day of trading, and of course, a weekend of EPL live football action, not forgetting the final stages of the world snooker from Sheffield, in between the live games.

Hope to see some of you there – don’t forget - 20% off all drinks – including ladies’ drinks…..

SantiSuk and I were proud to be the first ones to try out Mobi's. A nice little set up with an excellent host! We dropped by again yesterday to watch some football and snooker. Cold beer, good hot dogs, an nice company........We'll be back! thumbsup.gifbiggrin.png

Are you from Bergen, Norway? I've got quite a few very good friends from there. Hope to visit one day!

Sounds like things are going well for you, Mobi. We'll be by shortly to have a look! Best of luck.

From Bergen indeed!! You'll not be disappointed!! biggrin.png

  6. AFL = definitely N-Joy Bar (I'm asuming AFL is Aussie rules). That's where the Ubon Aussies go to watch it! Louie, the Thai owner's wife of long standing is an ancient Rules-loving Oz and the managing Thai sisters have strong Oz connections.

Saturday/Sunday afternoon (can't remember which, or both) - always on.

I 100% agree with SantiSuk!! N'Joy is the place to go! smile.png

  7. Search JD Pools

They're located on the road to Amnat, and the address is:

    J.D. Pools Ubon Ratchathani Address : 222 Moo 4, Khamyai, Muang, Ubon Ratchathani 34000 Tel : 045-280808, 045-284252 Fax : 045-283700 E-mail : [email protected]

I checked the price for 50kg of chlorine tablets, but found it expensive, so instead to a trip to Pool Mart in Thepprasit/Jomtien, and had a few days at the beach as well........whistling.gif

  8. I made mistake by copying my normal one day training schedule to be our meeting agenda.

The Isaan Farmers Meeting Agenda should be:

10:00 - 13:00 Register and lunch (Tasty Ayuthaya noodle, served on demand, unlimited)

13:00 - 16:00 Trip around mushroom farm, short seminar, wild mushroom hunting game etc.

16:00 – 16:30 Move to Banrai Jomthong resort.

Those who want to know more will come back on Sunday morning to take full training for free.

But as WormFarmer said: "There is no rigid agenda, you can play it by ear when you are there."

This agenda can be amended, up to the situation.

    RMKS

Beers & drinks still be unlimited (sponsored by DaveHKT and Thaivisa)

This looks better, - will probably be there around 13.00. See you all! thumbsup.gif

  9. I'll be there with "the missus". I've booked a room at Banrai Jomthong. We will be there for lunch, meeting and dinner. Will travel to the venue with "the viking" (aka Bergen).

    See you all on 29th.

    Cheers

I can confirm that I'll come with Sandgroper1066 and his better looking half...................rolleyes.gif

Even mrs. Bergen has said she would like to join.....................w00t.gif but only time will tell............rolleyes.gif

SantiSuk: We'll be organizing our own transport..........smile.png
